Unique Baby Girls names??

I understand the name stealing. I really don't care much what other people name their kids, but my son will be Henry Joseph, which would have been my daughter's name if she were a boy too. Henry was my dad's name and he died when I was 17 so I really wanted to use his name and Joseph is my husband, FIL, and GFIL. So there was a reason behind the name. Well then our friends, after asking us what we were going to name our kid before we knew she was a girl, took the name for their son who was born 4 months after our daughter. So now all of our friends say "Oh, like the Floyd's son" when we tell them what we're going to name our son. I don't mind that they used the name, but now everyone thinks we're copying them!

OT -- I had an issue with name stealing too! I was pregnant the same time my husband's sister-in-law was. My husband is Jack, Jr., so if we had a boy he was going to be named Jack. Well, my husband's brother says if they have a boy they are going to name him Jack. Well, we were a little upset but my husband didn't really like his name anyway. So we decide that if it is a boy then we will name him Brenden. Well, SIL has her baby first and it's a boy and she names him BRENDEN. It's a good thing they live 2 hours away!! I ended up having a girl, so it ended up ok but I still can't believe they did that!

Though at the last minute we named our DD Autumn we thought it was unique until we went out in public with her!!! oh well we like t, just wished we would have switched the Middle and first names around! her middle name is Verona (the city in Italy where Romeo and Juliet took place!!). we have a DS whose name is Gabriel, we love that too, but definately not unique!!!

About Illiana, that's my cousins name and another cousins name! verrrry pretty!!

IF we have a third we have a girl name picked out Chanel but still no boy name!

Kathy, Krista.

ALso like Cierra (had to change that since DD was fair & blonde and it means dark mountian!) and fav was Cassia since I was little. To bad hubby's last name made that sound like a bubble dancer!

Also Jada, Elaina (E-lain-a), Diane, Rhandi (named after her dad Randy, since all he was having was girls!) Nia & Raegan & Colleen.

Best unigue names I heard, Tannis & Nevaeh (Na-va-ah - heaven spelled backwards!)

Oh and best thing... yell it out the door like you were calling her home. Make sure it sounds right. My 1st born is Chip and the family consensus was to name the 2nd Dale if he was a boy. Yeah rite!!! Here come the dancers in for dinner!

I love unique names!!! My DD is Karis Maddigan (Karis is a very OLD name - who knew?) I have also seen it spelled Carys..... My best friend has a daughter named Ella Kate, which is TOO cute! I also loved Georgia, because our son is Jack and it sounded so cute together, but my hubbie said no way.

I like classic names. When naming my children I used the test asking how the name would sound on an older person. Names ending with "y" or "ie" sounded wrong for older people. Also, anything that is difficult or confusing to spell was right out. I don't want to have to correct people or spell out a name for them every time I say it. I love the names Tova and Sarah.
Tova is one of my dd's names. :)

My dds are Shannon and Kailyn. If I had known how many people would call her KaiTlyn, I wouldn't have named her that. I do love the name but we are constantly correcting people. She is 11 and in her class, there are 2 Kaitlyns, one Kayla, her-Kailyn and a Katie!! Shannon is the only one in her class, lol. Names I love are:
Kerry-love it, love it, love it!!!!

Ryan-I know it's a boy name but so is Kerry and I love that!

Elena-so pretty

Keely

Callie

Cassie

Delaney-family name I really, really wish I had used!!

I like Charlotte for a girl, but we're not planning on having more kids. And DH pretty much hates that name so it's just as well!

The social security website is a fun place to check the popularity of a name. You may have to check several spellings though

Carone0318 my name is Kerry as well. I don't see too many girls spell it the same way as we do. I have seen a lot of boys with that name too.
As for a girls name. If I have a girl her name will be Brielle. Love the name.

My Niece who I posted this for who is pregnant her name is KERRY also! How crazy is that she is Kerry Ann

Read the WHOLE thread and didn't see DD's name. O-kay...is the suspense building??
My daughter was born on 1-1-00 exactly 9 months (to the day) after my mother passed away. My mother's name was Bonnie so it wasn't as if a Lightening bolt had to be thrown at us! Obviously we HAD to name her after her loving Nanny! Bonnie Elizabeth.
I guess my name isn't all that common either (unless you count the fast food thing) I am Wendy Suzanne.
Good Luck, you have been given some GREAT suggestions!

I like Victoria, nickname-Tori I love traditional names. Everyone knows how to spell my children's names.

I would suggest she uses an obvious spelling or her daughter will be spelling her name for people her entire life. When I taught, I thought some of the far out spellings were ridiculous. It doesn't make your child cute, it makes it more difficult for them.

I find it funny when people name their child "Princess or Precious". Those names don't go over well on a resume! :rotfl:

"I'm not trying to spoil everyone's fun with this, but the O'range and LeMon Jello twins story is an urban legend. Check out http://www.snopes.com/racial/language/names.htm ."

I am a Labor and Delivery Room Nurse and DH is an OB/GYN. Unfortunately, this is NOT an urban legend. We have seen SEVERAL of these through the years! As a matter of fact, one of the children was in the paper (a second grader now) not too long ago, and I asked DH, "Do you remember this one?"
He said, "How could I forget!!!"

There are some real dooseys out there. You just wish people would think about the child as a person that is gonna be stuck with the crazy name for their whole life!!!

Didn't see my daughter's name on here either! I am named after my grandmother. They gave me the english version of her name (she had the Italian version) Jennie. My daughter now has the Italian version of my name - Giavanna. We call her Gia! The only problem we run into is that the name Gianna is popular so we have to correct people on that. We did run into a Giavanna (same spelling and everything!) on our last trip to WDW! Other than that we've never met another. princess:

Thanks everyone for some great suggestions I can't wait til she gets home from work to go over the list with her! I have a daughter her name is DEVON which at the time was unique but now you here it so often!! and spelled numerous ways! Devon, Devin, Deven, Devyn , Devan ! And could be either boy or girl! Also she use to get when she was a baby in 1994 DEVONNE! is what they called her! I hated that! My nephew was Tyller! yes with 2 L's my sister wanted to be different he got called (T I L L E R )

My dd name is Alatia Skye.(a - la - sha)
My name was less common but as I get older it has become more common
Ayanna (prounounced with a short a in the beginning).

Other names I like
Moniah Rayne
Essynce Nichol
Sabrea

But the down side of unique names is NEVER being able to find personalized stuff!

Aimee (Amy)
It's spelled the french way, but most people understand how to pronounce it!

My DD (8) name is Audrey. Old fashioned but not too unusual where one doesn't know how to spell or pronounce it.
I think thats the secret: where one's name is not too unusual where one doesn't know how to pronounce or spell it correctly.
Have yet to come across more than 1 other Audrey in her lifetime through out schools, pre-schools and daycares.
Many Hannahs, Annas, Katelyns (many different spellings), Rachels, Baileys (ditto), Emmas, Emilys, and Madelines (ditto).
Some other names we considered were Kara, Nora, and Margaret.
Good Luck!
