"Unexpected" Cleaning @ Pop pools

Yep, :scared1: I'm one of the mothers who just didn't catch "it" in time. My DD4 at the time had an accident in a pool while on vacation in FL (not WDW though). She had not had an accident for well over a year or so. I was in the pool with her and when I realized what was happening, just about threw her out of the pool, lol, but not quite in time. Her grandmother berated her so badly right there in front of all those people I will never forgive her. My daughter was so embarrassed she broke down and cried for hours, it really put a damper on our trip I can tell you not to mention stress in my relationship with Mom. I understand now that her reaction was one of embarrassment for herself -- get over it already! I never did question DD why? -- I figured she had lived through enough humiliation for one 4 year old but I can only assume that she had no sensation or didn't notice quickly enough. It happened once and never happened again. They did close the pool for an hour or two and I am sorry for those that could not enjoy it for that time, but ya know, **** happens, sorry had to say that:rotfl2: If this is the worse thing that happens to me in raising my children, it'll be a GREAT life.

And, for the PP who mentioned the two children naked at the shower, yep, I'm one of those too! No, I don't get dressed-down:eek: but until each of my children were pre-school age (maybe 3 or so) I had no problem with their being naked in public. Did I make a point of providing no clothes for them - No. But they did shower naked at the beach/pools, they were changed in and out of wet suits at the beach or car, etc. and yes, occasionally when they were babies they swam naked at the beach. More than once someone has threatened to call DSS on me for neglect???? Probably the same people that threaten to call because I believe in disciplining children whenever, wherever, as the situation demands.

To each their own, and of course, there are negligent, lazy parents out there (too many to count I think) but some of us are doing our best and just have a bad day here and there:thumbsup2

This happened at POFQ this week, pool was closed, we left so I don't know for how long, but was the hottest part of the afternoon. My son was disappointed, but what can you do, the pool has to be sanitized. All the lifeguards kept saying how sorry they were to have to close the pool.

Oh, the naked kids didn't bother me in the least, my girls ignored that, it was the lady with the enormous "ta ta's" and the tattoos walking naked that bothered me! :rotfl:

OMGoodness, I was NOT by any means referring to any poster on here. I am sorry if you took it that way. Although, I should add even if a child has diahherea, and it's not a virus, IMO, they should stay out of the pool until it goes away because of health concerns. But, if you don't know when they are going to get it, I guess there is nothing you can do. At least Disney is responsible, and takes the appropriate steps.

OMG, this thread has me sick. I guess I am the mother of three living in a bubble. I am so paranoid of germs. My poor kids will not be allowed in the pool this year after reading all of these stories. I am sorry, it's gross!! I understand kids are kids, but it's just plain gross. It also drives me right out of my mind when I hear of a child that has a throw up bug or diaherea just out & about. Stay home or in your hotel & get better, and don't expose yourselves to healthy people. Sorry, I had to vent!

I have read many threads about kids with stomach viruses out at the parks like it's no big deal. I think that is selfish. Some people on this thread have had to endure and accident with their children. But that is different then knowing they are sick and taking them out and about anyway. I'm not even going to comment about the naked Lady visibly showering! I don't care where you are from this is America and we have to wear clothes or bathing suits. Babies in the shower is a bit  different than and adult  .

Never had it happen to us so far in 16 years, guess we've been lucky. But, I'd rather people just relaxed and let them clean up without making a huge issue of it. Can you imagine if they started fining at WDW? Then, people would simply poop & scoop. Imagine the bacteria that would stay simply because they didn't want to get fined. Please, people...tell someone what happened so they can close the pool & sanitize it!!!

We've had our daughter in the pools since she was 3 months old and she's always been in a swim diaper. However, some other cultures don't use them and wouldn't know what a swim diaper even was. One lady with a heavy accent asked me last year if they meant to make sure you had a clean diaper on the child just for swimming. We ended up giving her an extra and told her where she could get them. We saw her later and she was thrilled that we'd told her about them and had bought some to take home to show her sister.

It's not always about negligence or people not caring. Sometimes its simply that they don't know. Then again, there "are" those poop & scoopers out there... I just know it! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I would have done the same thing since she truly didn't know Also since she was swimming in the same pool as you and your kids.

I think that everyone here would agree that accident's happen. It's unfortunate but sometimes unavoidable. I do think that some parents choose not to follow the rules i.e. swim diapers. Perhaps they think that they know their child well. I know it's impossible to police everyone however those who do not follow the rules shouldn't be allowed to use the facilities.

I took a cruise two years ago with my then 2.5 year old DD. She was almost potty trained. I bought lots of swim diapers with me because she loved the water. Wouldn't you know it but the cruise line didn't allow NON potty trained children in any of the pools, including the kid's pool, even with a swim diaper. I paid several thousand dollars for that vacation and I was a bit miffed. I could understand the adult pool but the kids pools. For pete's sake. The kids pool was really a toddler pool, it might have been 2 feet deep. Gimme a break. I really let the cruise line have it when I got home.

I did let my DD go in the "kids" pool. She didn't have any accidents.

Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean to offend that day...:rotfl:

Just kidding!!

One year at the GF we were swimming and this lady got in the pool topless! :scared1: From her accent I'm pretty sure she wasn't from here.

First paragraph you state that those who do not follow the rules shouldn't be allowed to use the facilities.

Then in the second paragraph you state that you broke the rules while on the cruise.

Vellly interesting.:sad2:

The Nick hotel requires all kids 4 and under, I think, maybe just under 4 to wear them. They will not let you wear the disposable ones. They have to be the ones with the liner attached. Like I said before, they are not that great and do not fit all kids the same. Thankfully my son never pooped in them in a pool, but he has pooped in them before, and it does not always contain everything. Especially if it is loose, which swimming often does, at least in my family.

I think on cruise ships, because it is usually salt water pools and not being able to have the chemicals, they have to be REALLY careful. I am not positive on this, though.

As Forest Gump said "It happens".

I knew that someone would mention that. Honestly I felt that the cruise lines rule was unfair. The pool was obviously meant for a toddler. How many children under 2 do you know that's potty trained? Again, I also stated that my daughter was almost trained, no accidents except one or two at night.

I was at the Polynesian quiet pool with my then 8 year old........

He told me there was "poo" in the bottom of the shallow end. I laughed and told the silly boy that it must be a piece of limb or palm thingy. I then took my stupid self over to the said "offending thing" and proceeded to pick it up with my toes......:sad2: :sad2:

It "squished" and fell apart between my toes.... :scared1: It was indeed poo...and I have been scarred....:sad2: :sad1:

:scared1: :scared: :scared: :scared1:

I'm not saying this isn't true because I'm sure it is...it just reminded me of something that happened to me. I was in an ice cream shop on St George street in St Augustine with dsis and her 4 kids, dmom and my 3 kids. Well, her ds 4 threw up without warning ALL OVER the floor in front of 10 customers. :scared: The young girls behind the counter stood there with there mouths wide open for 2 or 3 minutes before I told them to hand me some paper towels, cleaners- whatever they had. I proceeded to clean it up while my dsis ran dnephew to the restroom. They had no problem with letting me handle that little incident

(Emphasis mine.)

Kids working in an ice cream parlor would be scared and have no clue what to do (and not even think, "Call the manager," or anything). Before I even read "the young girls", I said, "I bet it was teens working the parlor," and, yup, it was! :)

But go to a restaurant or theme park or hotel or museum or whatnot and they will almost certainly have regulations on cleaning "stuff" up and not let patrons do it.

It does seem to happen quite frequently, but I was at the Pop bowling pin pool last week when a little kid became physically ill at the side of the pool on the walkway and the parents just left it there. Didn't try to cover up this protein spill in any way. The father literally looked at it and shrugged his shoulders and walked away. Hello, ever think to possibly throw a towel over it? Get some water in a cup and swish some of it into the grass or something??

Nope both mom and dad looked at it and left. The little boy immediately jumped into the pool. That's when I got out.

I think accidents happen, but I think a lot of parent do nothing to prevent or clean up the accident once it has happened.

In terms of cruise lines, they don't allow un trained toddlers into the pool because those pools are salt water and very few are chemically treated. If an accident happens in a cruise pool, they have to drain the pool completely, clean it and refill it. It's not a matter of dumping in more chlorine.

Now, that's just wrong in SO many ways!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I have a little story that did not take place in a pool thankfully. First off my DS was allergic to eggs and dairy (out grew it) and somehow he got some from a CS resturant that of course told me what he was eating was safe. Well later that evening while eating at Le Cellier he did not want to eat which as parents you know sometimes kids do that.

Well, after eating dinner I picked him up and went out side. (le cellier is a little dark) My arm felt wet and my DH yells look! I look down and there is poo all over my arm and on my shoe. I held my poor DS out and it was all over his little bottom. I had to tell the CM (poor girl) that there might be some on his highchair. I had to rush him to the nearest baby care center to clean us both up. I was in such a panic I did not go back into the resturant to see if I could help. I mean what could I do with poo all over and a DH standing there in shock asking me what to do :confused3

The stuff was literally everywhere, but if he were swimming even with the diapers the same thing would have happened but in the pool. SOmetimes things happens and on lookers dont know what the situation is.

guess i made the right decision not to go to the bowling pin after the hippy dippy & computer pools were closed. :rotfl2:
funny how these threads evolve!:lmao:

I didn't say my son was sick. I said something about being at WDW doesn't agree with his digestive tract. One loose stool in 7 days does not mean he's sick, or has a bug. I truly try to keep his schedule as close to what it is at home, and he doesn't eat a lot of garbage when we vacation, but digestive problems are very common for Autistic kids. Since I have no way of knowing if he's gonna have it on Monday or Friday or not at all, I am not going to not let him enjoy himself because there is a chance he might possibly get a belly ache.

Don't think your son is the only one with this problem. There are many people in my family (including me)that are prone to tummy problems when we are away from home. This is waaaay different from being ill. I for one would never expect you to keep your child out of the pool just because he has a sensative tummy.

Sorry! But I couldn't help the laugh!

A few years ago, we were at a neighborhood pool party. A couple at the party decided to let their one year old in the pool. So, they stripped him down to the buff and put him in the pool! Not even a regular diaper! The onwer was livid to say the least!:scared1:

Things happen as long as you try to clean the mess or let some one know.
