While @ the Pop last week (Saturday) we were kicked out of both the computer and hippy dippy pools for "unexpected" cleanings. DD & boyfriend saw the "unexpected" event in the computer pool. What's up folks with little ones? Don't you read the signs which say swimming diapers in the pools? It is not only unsanitary but inconsiderate of others not to put your untrained little ones in the correct swiw wear! :confused3

While I do understand your frustration at the situation, please remember that even with the best intentions and precautions accidents do happen! I am sure the parents were just as mortified as you were upset.

you know, if it was an accident and the swim diaper just didn't do its job, that is one thing...but I've got 4 kids, all whom have worn swim diapers many times, and I've never had a problem, they hold the things they should very well. Sometimes I wonder if parents really are mortified...I certainly would be, but don't you find that sometimes, parents don't care at all? I think I'm getting a little cynical, but it doesn't seem like some parents just care much about inconveniencing others, or their darlings terrorizing people, say at restaurants...it is unfortunate, because I try to teach my children to be considerate and aware of others at all times. It doesn't always work :confused3, but...

I've had dozens of children in my pool, many not potty trained, and I"ve never had, umm, any Baby Ruths in the pool. Which leads me to believe that since it seems to happen so often at Disney (and I'm sure other vacation venues) that parents aren't taking care of business.

DH & I were mortified when ds (3ish, many years ago) took in too much water and lost his dinner causing a hotel pool to be closed. Just was so frustrating that two pools were closed within 1/2 hour of each other. DD & boyfriend wanted to go to bowling pin pool, I had enough for one day by that time. :scared1:

I was at the Polynesian quiet pool with my then 8 year old........

He told me there was "poo" in the bottom of the shallow end. I laughed and told the silly boy that it must be a piece of limb or palm thingy. I then took my stupid self over to the said "offending thing" and proceeded to pick it up with my toes......:sad2: :sad2:

It "squished" and fell apart between my toes.... :scared1: It was indeed poo...and I have been scarred....:sad2: :sad1:

I had a friend who stayed at the GF, and they had to unexpectedly clean the pool after an adult one time (a guy with his young family). So you never know!

I'm not sure that all cultures who visit Disney would even know what a swim diaper was (let alone a lot of people here in the US!) I have seen pools while being "unexpectedly" cleaned, just as I've seen a dirty diaper left on a tray at a counter service restaurant. Ewwww, eww, but at least Disney gets everyone out of the pool quickly.

That happened to us at the Poly (our only stay there). They kept the pool closed for two days to SANITIZE it, it was so bad (whatever IT was ). Made my girls livid, we were not offered any hopping options either. :(

I agree that some people do not follow the rules regarding appropriate swim wear for their little ones. However, I would not rush to judgement without knowing the circumstances.

I have been on the mortified end of a pool accident with a potty trained child. My younger child was not potty trained completely so she wore a swim diaper. My other daughter had been potty trained for awhile but she had an accident at the pool side (not in the water) at the CBR 4 years ago. :scared1:

Yes..I was mortified. I grabbed one of the younger one's diapers and quickly held it onto her so we could make our way to the restroom. A kind housekeeper assisted us in the bathroom, and I kept telling her that it was not necessary, please leave your cleaning products and I will clean the bathroom myself. She wouldn't hear of it.

It's not like I told her to go in the pool or the pool area and take a dump purposely. Like the saying goes "It" happens. Gross as it is. You are in a place with tons of kids...you're probably swimming in so much urine you wouldn't believe it.

However, we know that some people are nasty and just don't care either. So I can see it both ways.

Usually places have regulations on how to clean up bodily fluids and excrement, so she most likely was not allowed to let you clean it up yourself. For the safety and protection of the public, they have to clean it themselves a certain way using certain chemicals and all. This happens everywhere.

I imagine she could have been fired for giving you her cleaning supplies. For stuff like throw-up, blood, and poo, they really need to give a sterile cleaning to that themselves. And they just can't hand over their cleaners.

Keep in mind that when little kids are swimming, they sometime ingest a lot of water. The pool water always gave my son diarrhea when he was younger. Even now that he is nine sometimes. I have to assume it is because he is drinking it, although I do not even put my face in the water and it can effect me later in the day also. Those swim diapers are not that great, and of course they are going to fit some kids differently. It is not unheard of for them to leak. Just be glad the hotel is on top of it. I live in Marietta, Ga where all the kids got sick and some died at White Water park from this kind of thing. That is when they started with the swim diapers.

I would be so pissed if they had to close the pool that long because a kid not wearing swim pants. Poly management should have let you swim somewhere else. It did close unexpectedly when we were there too but only for a halh a day. I was still annoyed because that was our pool day. My DS was 2 on our last trip and he always wore a swim diaper even though he was begining potty training. He doesn't go Pooh in front of people but why take the chance of and accident that would mortify me and ruin others vacations. I do also take him to the bathroom before we come down to swim and as needed. I guess some people are too busy to take their own child to the bathroom:rolleyes1 They need to start enforcing swim diapers or the kids don't swim.

We had a similar situation at POFQ a few years ago. It was quite a scene for my daughter to behold. We went down for a swim after dinner and were greeted by CMs dressed in haz-mat type suits cleaning up from an "accidental fecal incident" as they put it. We were able to go to PO to swim, but the pool remained closed for the rest of the evening as they continued to patrol and "retrieve." Not a fun night to work at a pool.

Spoken like someone with no kids, Accidents happen!!

Oh my gosh!!! I did the very same thng at the Pop's bowling pin pool last March!!!! DD comes over telling me about an ''un-identified'' object at the bottom of the pool.....I laughed it off and proceded to do the very same thing as you.....

Count me in as another ''scarred'' LOL.

ok, probably a silly question, but should a four and five year old wear one, just in case?

While this has never happened to me with any of my four kids, I would not jump to the conclusion that someone negligently allowed this to happen. As a pp said, accidents happen folks. Especially where kids are concerned. Sounds like op doesn't even know what type of accident this was.... it could have been a kid with a tummyache who vomited in the pool. My kids never tell me when they are going to get sick...they get squirmy, a little pale and then ...bbllaaaahhh!!! if I miss those first few signs then I don't catch them in time. Ya know, we're all in the same boat here as parents. Yes, some people are a bit negligent to these types of issues but in all of my Moms clubs, playgroups, PTAs, and various other "groups" I've run across in the last 16 years of raising kids, most parents are respectful, responsible and also (in my experience) non-judgemental.

ETA-Sorry- I re-read op and see they did see one of the events. I still wouldn't rush to judge them though. Especially since I still have 1 in diapers :)

I'm not saying this isn't true because I'm sure it is...it just reminded me of something that happened to me. I was in an ice cream shop on St George street in St Augustine with dsis and her 4 kids, dmom and my 3 kids. Well, her ds 4 threw up without warning ALL OVER the floor in front of 10 customers. :scared: The young girls behind the counter stood there with there mouths wide open for 2 or 3 minutes before I told them to hand me some paper towels, cleaners- whatever they had. I proceeded to clean it up while my dsis ran dnephew to the restroom. They had no problem with letting me handle that little incident

I do agree they need to enforce the swim diapers. But as my previous post stated, accidents do happen even with potty trained children. I do toilet my children as well, but they can't poo on command because we are putting bathing suits on. Did I condone the fact that she took a poo at poolside in her bathing suit? No. But I didn't scold her either as it was an accident. Without going into details she didn't know it was coming either.

As far as the kind housekeeper thing goes, I understood there are regulations but I wanted to clean up the bulk of the mess as I wouldn't wish that on anyone and then she could come back and sanitize. She went above and beyond which I appreciated by getting washcloths, soap and towels for me to clean my daughter up in the shower. I kept thanking her over and over and apologizing over and over. The housekeeper kept saying accidents happen all the time.

I don't know why it took them that many days to santize. When we were on the Disney Cruise last year there was a poo accident in the Mickey Pool. They announced that due to US Health Department Regulations, the Mickey Pool would be closed for approximately 2 hours.

At the resorts there are usually more than one pool, the main pool and quiet pools. Although you didn't have the benefit of a water slide etc. If it were the pool day you could go to the other pools as well. That's probably why they didn't offer hopping benefits.
