Uncrustables?

I read that Uncrustables are available from room service. Can you request that they be delivered frozen in the package? I was hoping to take a couple off the ship with us on port days so I don't have to worry about what my kids will/will not like or eat. I was thinking that they take a few hours to thaw, so it would work perfectly if room service would bring them straight from the freezer. I'm not sure how long they would stay good if they were already thawed though. Has anyone done this? Is it okay to take them off the ship if they are still sealed in packaging?

Nearly every port has customs/agricultural restrictions on bringing food off the ship. Some only allow bottled water. These restrictions are announced to guests on board, and there are signs as you leave the boat. So, the answer to your question is going to vary depending on where you are getting off the ship.

The answer we got on the Magic this year is do not take ship food on shore. Even the packaged Uncrustables.

What if its not "ship food" but prepackaged food you brought from home (granola bars, apple sauces, etc)? I thought I read somewhere as long as it prepackaged and has not been opened you can take it on/off ship.

we ordered several uncrustables and requested that they be delivered frozen. we took some of them off the boat in Nassau without any problems. they can stay at room temp for at least a day or in the fridge for even longer. what was left we took home with us and the kids ate them on the drive home.

People do take food off the ship at risk to themselves.

It is not allowed in most ports and there are signs that caution against it as you walk through security. Every shore excursion sign-in I've ever been to has had the person saying please, please, PLEASE don't take food off the ship. People think the rules don't apply to them and still do it.

Not worth getting fined to me.

Taking it on and off the ship to use on the ship is different than taking it on and off the ship in foreign ports. Their country, their rules. Even if you brought it from home.

What about Castaway Cay? That's owned by Disney. ..

It's not actually. They have a 99 year lease from the Bahamian government.

I do not know the rules for that specific port and as all laws they are subject to change and to vary in enforcement.

In response to OP's question. All I can say is that this year I asked for pb&j sandwiches and a plate of cookies. I ordered them at night and I never made any requests whatsoever. They were delivered sealed.

we have done this on both of our cruises.
On our most recent, March 2013, we did it twice.
The second time the woman from room service when I called did mention that we would be taking it off the ship at our own risk, or something like that, if that was our intention.
I was surprised she said this. I remember specifically looking the information up after we hung up the phone. And I don't remember if we found it in the navigator, book in the room, etc . . . but somewhere we definitely confirmed in writing that 'prepackaged' food was okay.

On our Disney excursion when we met in the morning I asked and was told they were fine, I believe she said just no produce, and unpackaged items, things like that. So we went with it.

Ours came cold, not frozen, we kept them in the fridge over night, they were fine and were perfect to hold us over.

The only two ports that we will be visiting will be Key West and Castaway. Since I know there will be things my kids will eat at Castaway-Key West is probably the only port we would take snacks for. We will be parasailing and don't want to eat really heavy at breakfast :) Can anyone comment on the Key West rules-I know that we will be docking at the Naval Base. Can uncrustables really be kept at room temps for a day?!? I thought they had to be kept refrigerated at the least. I would love to have some for the ride home for my kids but didn't think that would work........

Key West is a US port. There should be plenty of recognizable food onshore for them. No need to bring anything off the ship.

To add to this, please eat either on the ship or in one of the restaurants in Key West. There are so many great restaurants! Go out and enjoy them and don't eat a pbj! Every restaurant has a kids' menu, and even if you pick one that doesn't, I am sure they will work with you on your order. KW is tourist centered and family friendly.

The rule for CC is the same as for any Bahaman port -no. Even though the banana you carry off is the same banana you can get on CC, you have to let them take it off and you pick it up at Cookies. They are very strict about what you bring back on too. Shells, coconuts, food stay on the island.

Key West is part of Florida.
If youre concerned about having stuff the kids like, plenty of "Americsn" fare to choose from. Kids menus everywhere. :)

Exactly, word of mouth (well DISboards) is how most of us found out about them.
