Unacceptable behavior in the pirates game...

I consider myself a very patient person, but I'm totally fed up with the immature, mannerless, trash-talking people whom I encounter more and more often in the pirate games! There's something insidious about that game...

I could give plenty of examples here, but you all know what I'm talking about. If I say something in the game about their behavior, they just laugh and throw out more insults. Appallingly, I've seen instances where these people team up in a pirates game and win by intimidation. Not to mention the encounters with these knuckle-draggers in the pirate lobby after a game!

This game is supposed to be a family-friendly, safe place to play. Look at what the youngest most impressionable players are being exposed to!

Please VMK, find a solution to this problem! Maybe turn off chat in the game -- Maybe assign a staff member to monitor the chat in randomly selected games and ban these people -- Maybe address the problem in the newsletter.

Hey dis'ers, what's your opinion?

I couldn't agree more! If it wasn't for the lack of credits I'd play with AI all day. I cannot stand when people trash talk or accuse others of cheating. I can't even think of a way you COULD cheat in pirates. A feature to turn chat on and off would be an excellent idea! I have stuck to just the polite gl ang gg and that is it, why bother trying to say anything else when chances are it will just cause a scene.

I think another option would be to have chat that is pre-written. Like when you hit the letter "r" on your keyboard or something, it will automatically type "Good Luck".

Hi everybody, I am new at posting although I have been reading all yenzes postings for a long time. Just felt so strong about this subject of Pirate game mannors. What drive me nuts is when your own team mate starts saying removed and things like that, so what I do is corner their ship so they can't move and the other team will shoot at them. They get really mad and I remind them that thats what happens when their not polite.

What I find so frustrating is not knowing what words are acceptable. Like my first response is that is rude. Of course we can not say rude. So then I think about what I can say the game is over. I wish you could say rude because that is what the players are being.

And what do you say to have a player blow up after they are sunk. Blew and blow are not acceptable words.

I do not enjoy pirates especially when I pay 21 credits and end up with you earned 0 credits :(

I think you should get something for your effort.

Flower and I played Hanted Mansion last night right before closing and I can't tell you how relaxing it felt. Ever since I practiced enough to be "good" at pirates - I've been playing it almost exclusively. Just because of the keys and I was pretty burnt out on fireworks.

We both commented during the game, about how much less stressful mansion is than pirates.

I have made this suggestion to VMK - that the person who starts the game has the choice to shut chat off during the game. Hopefully it works, I have to tell you what a peaceful and enjoying game it is playing against Pirate Ships. :thumbsup2 Albeit I get no credits (Keys), but then I am not called a name.

When I lose I have been called a loser her and laughed at. In the rare instances that I win I have been called a cheat her, and the b word! Are ppl really this way in real life? If so I feel so sad to think that ppl act like this on a regular basis. I have decided that some ppl have such a poor self esteem that they fell they have to bring others down to feel better about themselves. I think the only way to stop it would be to turn the chat off or to have it addressed in a news letter.
I also think that if you play the game to the end but lose you should at least get 21 credits plus whatever gold you got, so that way ppl will want to play. It is no fun to play when you lose and get 0 credits every time :(

I just play with DIS folks. It's the only way I can keep my cool. The few times I've been dumb enough to play with "outsiders" and these things happened, I blocked the paths of those who were being the most obnoxious, or I stop directing my ship and give them a good lecture (the latter of which makes them end the game quickly!). At least if they are going to call me names they are going to have reasons to.

I find it all funny actually because when people are saying stuff like YOU STINK! They are always the ones that end up losing because theyre too busy typing instead of playing the game.

Some people are just sore losers, just like in real life. Pirates can be a pretty frustrating game and it is rather aggressive when you think about it. I am always reminded of my younger brother who would get mad during a board game and throw it everywhere screaming insults when I was growing up. I guess online players are no different really.

I'm sure I've missed many insults because while I'm still alive and playing the game I don't always have the focus to pay attention to what people are saying to me. I'm sure that's a good thing.

Well I was the one recently who started a multiple paragraph thread about my own pirate pet peeves so I'm not gonna rehash that again. I just get more irritated at the dead players giving obvious commands more than anything else.

I have only played with friends lately, mostly DIS and others and I am so much happier now for it. Of course there are times in the day when I can't find a friendly face and I take a chance and join in, only to hear the insults flying. Since I have improved in my game, I don't hear them directed towards me as much anymore but I am forced to endure the insults directed at other players.

I think the only way to resolved this is to either eliminate the chat feature in the game (we can't chat in fireworks so to me this is no big deal) or they need to have staff that can sit and monitor to the game.

If they want to start giving out bans, all they need to do is watch a few pirate games to see where the really bad players hang out.

It's becoming almost unbearable in there! I see it a lot myself, but if I'm playing with someone I know, I'll text I word to the room, "Quit?" and out we go! No, we don't get any credits, but it sure makes me feel better knowing they won't either. :)

I agree with mainly sticking to saying gl and gg in the game. If I really complain in the game it's normally about horible lag, and that has nothing to do with the other players. I've seen some players be really obnoxious in games, and the main thing I can do is try not to play with them again. There is no way to report in the game, and I don't always end up in the same lobby as others from the game, so reporting after a game isn't an option. I just try to ignore what others are saying.

Removing the chat in the game isn't a bad idea at all. It will make the games more pleasant, and you can't have somone's speech blocking you from seeing ammo or health that you desparately need.

I've been playing pirates a lot lately too and I'm always trying to remind them to be nice, they're not polite, or they're poor sports. Though mostly now I've given up and have been sticking to gl and gg, though sometimes I skip those if everyone I'm playing is completely rude and therefore I do not wish them good luck or feel the need to tell them good game.

I would LOVE to turn off the chat feature during pirates! :thumbsup2 Best idea I've heard since the no trade option.. Yavn and Co.. are you listening? :teeth:

Post removed. Sorry, I was just shocked to see how upset ppl get.

*snip quote* Just thought I'd share.

Just so you know DIS frowns on people even quoting dictionary dancing bad words. So a mod might edit your post.

I woulden't mind having the chat turned off.. the only down side is those who are new (honestly) will ask during the game "how do i shoot" or "how do i move" or whatever their question may be. That is the only down side I see to the chat being turned off. However, there is one thing I do consider cheating... and that is sitting on the flag. Some may see it as a method to winning, but i find that it is just plain wrong. There are other methods, blocking someones path as they move, shooting at them as you pass them, running over their row boat, having a faster boat than them (tip: i reccomment at least one fast and one defensive boat if you are out for the wins) but just sitting on the flag.. shooting your ammo at the team trying to get said flag is to me like playing the real life capture the flag and sticking the flag in your pocket as the other team tries to tackle you to steal it from you. Just my opinion.

But yes... this game can be stressful (which i think to myself.. why its a game lol) Some stress i've felt has even been in a close race to the finish where one team beats the other by -...- (that) much. lol but that is more exciting stress where its like.. "its so close.. who has it.. will we get it?" and is more fun. :)

One time I was playing and I won, then a person from the other team said <removed> you know what she meant right? Then i responded ' Yes I know I am a duck'
