Ummm, are we too large for Astro Orbitor?

Hi all,

I was looking at Astro Orbitor on youtube, it looks like a fun ride that I would like to put on my bucket list. What i'm wondering is will DH and I be too large for it, the rockets seem narrow-ish in the video. DH is 280-290 pounds and i'm 200. We would have one of our kids in each rocket with us (our kids are on the small side), but i'm wondering if we would fit?

PS the ride didn't look intense (DD 8, gets skittish on rides that she feels are too intense), do you feel very high up in the rockets?

Thanks, Marina

Oops, I see I posted this on the wrong board, meant to post at theme park attractions & strategies

Well, I'm not sure how much this question has to do with resorts, but I will try to help.

It's somewhat tight. I'm 6'3" 220, and it feels tight to me. YMMV, though.

It does feel pretty high up, but you can control how high you actually go whilst underway. If there are more than mild fear of height issues, it may be a problem.

The ride is not very intense.

I'm larger than you and rode with my daughter no problem. Your DH may be a tight squeeze but it should still be very doable.

DH is 6'5" and doesn't fit. He is annoyed that there isn't a height restriction that would keep him (and others) from waiting in line when it isn't possible for someone that tall to sit down in the rockets.

My DH is 6'3 250 and doesn't really fit. Very very uncomfortable. Like pp said, it's not intense but you do feel pretty high up and I think until you get going and can move the rocket up a bit it kinda feels like you are going to roll or fall out

My 6'7" husband fit. It wasn't comfortable but it was safe. I fit but don't like to go on it because I hate heights.

I'm around your size and made it in there but couldn't have fit a very large child with me. I also have horrible knees so I really don't know how I managed to get in there (or out!) but I also couldn't bend my knees much to let a 2nd person in. I suppose I'd wonder whether the other child could ride with your DH as well. I don't know if there is some way to plan on doing a child swap without getting in line again - assuming your DH could ride it but you discovered when you got up there the child wouldn't fit in with him.

Maybe your DH has a longer torso and my DH has longer legs? Or it could be that we were riding together. Maybe he could fit alone.

The two of you together would not be very comfy, I can't imagine. I'm average height and weight, and when I was in it with my oldest, I felt a bit tight.

Yes, you do feel up high, because it is up high, but it's beautiful view.

I would say he probably could have fit by himself. My son is 6'4 and 250+ and rides by himself without issue. We definitely would not fit together!!

I'm 215 and my wife, around the same size, and I thought it was pretty tight. It also took some extra time to extricate ourselves from the "rocket" after the ride stopped the last time we rode it. Given that, along with the obscenely slow queue speed and the sardine can elevator ride, we're pretty much "done" with that attraction.

Haven't ridden it in a while but I don't remember any discomfort from the last time I rode it. DS14 and I rode but he was probably around 7 or 8 at the time. I'm 6' 230 and we were fine. If you do ride, ride at night...the view is really cool at night.

For me - its very high and if I remember correctly it also has a slight lean to it, so between the lean and height its a no-go for me, and I otherwise have no problem with rollercoasters or heights.

They told me (5ft 9) and hubby (6 ft 1) we'd fit in the same rocket. We couldn't get in with me in front (as instructed), just squished in with me behind, but it was a nightmare getting out and in no way comfortable. I rode alone another day and it was much better!

there is a thread somewhere (search) called "pooh size rides" or something like that if you are doing research on other rides. My hubby is 300 and fit. Tight of course but fit.

As far as intensity, my poor DW was terrified on that ride. She rides all rollercoasters and other thrill type rides, but this one really got her. I'll admit it was more intense than I mentally prepared for as well.

Right there with you for sizes - my wife and I fit just fine - go in separate rockets though.

The tough moment was climbing out of the rocket. Not much to hang on to...
But we rode it at least 5 times last summer!

That's the hard part. Not being teensy AND having a kid in there. Getting in with ds was fine. Getting out, since he needed some help, was not. So be aware of that.
