UK Community Photo Competition for w/e 23 February - Rides DISCUSSION

Thanks guys, have a few similar ones. Some are sharper, but not as interesting. Would post my second, but cannot get Photobucket to work:mad:

Wow that is a brilliant picture Matt.:thumbsup2

Some great entrys again this week.:goodvibes

At the risk of swelling Matt's head even further, I really love the bike shot.:thumbsup2

I suppose I should now ask about settings and exposures and other technical things, but I'm not going to because I wouldn't understand the answers :confused3 ;)

Don't be so hard on yourself Hilary - I had the camera on and the lens cap off and pressed the button:thumbsup2

I'm obviously better at this than I thought - I do exactly that, too! And here I was, thinking it must be complicated/skillful/technical . . .

Glad I could help you out!!

Seriously, it is not that complicated. You need a slowish shutter speed - 1/40 or 1/60, so that you can get the background to blur. Then you pan the camera at the same speed as the moving object and keep panning as you press the shutter. The only other setting you may need to look at is the focussing - you may need to use manual focus depending on your camera, due to the fact the camera is moving. Ours has a "servo" setting which means it continually adjusts the focussing point.

See told you - easy peasy! Oh, and remember to take a lot, as it can be hard to get a decent pic.

Matt people seem to like your Me and my Shadow but i really like the RnR Baby, the composition is spot on. Did you have to reframe it or was is your usual straight out the can, Man.:hippie:

No I'm pretty sure that it is as it came. It was a few years ago, and Deb was on the ride so I had ages to play around - took a lot from different angles, all of which meant me contorting myself into strange positions! It was quite hard to decide on which one to post.

Here's another from a slightly different aspect...

Funny thing was that after I finished taking the pics, I wandered across to sit down and wait for Deb and saw a few people who'd been watching me, bending over and taking the same pic.

Was half thinking of posting this one, but don't like the lens flare across it...

Both nice shots but I like the one you entered best.:thumbsup2

You had to go and spoil it, didn't you? ;)
