I stopped in 2 days ago to give school bread a try. Imagine my surprise to find it was brown on the top; instead of white. I asked about it and was told "it had recently changed." It is now caramel on top rather than the white icing. The coconut looks toasted, but the young girl helping me wasn't sure about that. It looked brown, as well, but it could have just been the caramel seeping into it. The clerk indicated she did not like the changes, so I opted not to try it since it wasn't the original.

Really? :( I saw a recent picture of Schoolbread and wondered why it was brown on top!

Hope it's as good as the previous one.

Oh-- here's a picture!!!

Yum I think the new frosting is going to be great! The white was just a confectionary sugar glaze. :lovestruc

Anything that has carmel on it I'd love then to boot coconut on top of that. I never had the original so I can't compare so I'll eitherlike it or not and by the sound of it I think I am going to like it, I cant wait to try it.:)

When we were there on Sept. 15, the guy behind the counter said that they were getting rid of School Bread tomorrow (the 16th) I asked him several times if he was serious and he said he was and had just found out that day. This was my first time trying School Bread (I learned about it here on the DIS Boards) and I knew how strong the following for it was, so I wondered if he was just messing with me, I guess he wasn't. I'm glad I got to try the "original" School Bread, I thought it was amazing  but I guess in the spirit of fairness, I will have to try the "new" version when we go back next year.

As long as it still has custard in it I am okay with it. :lmao:

Someone probably realized there was something in it that vacation-paying-adults are not capable of deciding whether-or-not we want to eat it! Add yet another item that I was looking forward to that's history....I'm really starting to get more than a little ticked over this.

great - messing with the school bread.....

well, as long as the custard inside is ok, i'll deal with the toasted coconut on top.

I had the new school bread last Saturday (9/20) with the caramel glaze. It was still good, and the price went down 50 cents to $1.99! Yes - it still has custard in the center. :)

Oh poop, I dont like toasted coconut! Oh well I guess I will finally have to try something else, maybe that glazed pretzel? Is that any good?

Hmm, I still want to try the "improved" school bread, but I've seen people recently report that the cloudberry horns are fantastic, too.

I just had it on the 19th. I don't remember the coconut being toasted on top. In fact I am almost 90% sure it wasn't. It had the brown syrupy stuff holding the coconut on but darn it I just don't think it was toasted...and if it was not all of it was.

Is it possible the coconut looks brown because of the syrup???

My husband loves loves loves the old school bread so he's a little concerned about the change but I'm sure he'll give it a try. We were just at Epcot today I'm surprised we didn't even go into the Norway bakery.

I tried the schoolbread for the first time last year, and I'm glad that I got DH to try it before the change.

I LOVE caramel though, so I'm definitely willing to test out the new version. ::yes:: (Although, I hate when people/companies mess with something that's already great!!!:confused3 ).

Bleh! Been waiting 2 years to have it and now it changed. I most likely will like it anyway ... but was  (sobbing) to my DH cause I don't think he will and I wanted to just share one ... anyway ... he soothed me by saying he likes caramel now. That's why I  him!

I saw another pic in a dining review of the new schoolbread and it is definately TOASTED coconut.

I hope I like it ... it still looks pretty yummy!

Uh oh, SusanWasHere....do I smell a revolt????? lol :cutie:

(She got me hooked on schoolbread...she is obsessed with it! LOL)
