Uh oh........School Bread Change

I had it twice last week! I thought it was absolutely delicious, and definitely not "too" sweet! :thumbsup2

I fear I'll be among those who won't see it as an improvment :( While I like caramel it just doesn't seem to fit here. Also, the coconut they used was always so fresh and moist. How does the crunchy toasted version work better? And as a pp mentioned, even the CM was schocked b/c it's no longer even very Norwegian. I can't imagine what prompted the change. Why does Disney keep 'fixing' things that aren't broken? Should we assume hoardes of people were commenting that they'd love school bread if only it was topped with caramel and the coconut was toasted???

I tried this a couple of weeks ago before the change it was soooooooo good. Don't know if I will like the new one.:confused3

My boys had it several times when we were there--we never had the original version. They loved it. I like it, but I preferred their Chocolate Mousse Cake.

Oh, MAN!!! I get a stack of those to go and we eat them for breakfast in the room. I should throw a school bread temper tantrum when I go in there in 12 days. I'll ask my DD for some tantrum tips.

I just wanted to post that the school bread is offered on the dessert plate at Akershus. Three of us thought it tasted really bad. It was stale and had very little filling (less than a teaspoon). It even felt tough. We took small bites and left the rest.

We had the new version of school bread twice last week. Once one our dessert sampler at Akershus and once the full size version at the Norway bakery. Now I can't compare it to the original because i've never tried it, but my daughter and I absolutely LOVED it!!! The caramel is just a very thin coating. You hardly taste the caramel at all while eating it. I 'usually' steer clear of coconut but really enjoyed the toasted coconut on this.

We had the school bread last week and I did not like it as much as the "old" version.

I'm going to find my little corner now and cry. This was always my first "food stop" in EPCOT, I'm just a little heartbroken.:guilty:

I dreamed last night that I ate one of these new ones. That's not right.

Why do they have to tamper with perfection......I am all for caramel but not on my schoolbread... When will Disney learn, if it works, you do not have to fix it.. *deep sigh inserted here*

I stopped in Kringla one day, and noticed that it was caramel now. I however didn't try it, since I wanted to try one of the almond pretzels instead.

Ok, I may sound like a dork, but the "old" version even looked like something from Scandinavia - the white, snowballish topping fit right in with the whole idea. Now, instead of a "Snow ball" I'm not sure what it looks like [well, I do have one idea, but its certainly not appetizing!]

Has anyone been able to find out why in the world this was considered an "improvement"? If even the CM won't eat it.....you'd think they'd ask for input from people who may have a clue on the food from the country they are imitating :confused3

Hmm, I still want to try the "improved" school bread, but I've seen people recently report that the cloudberry horns are fantastic, too.

The cloudberry horns ARE wonderful. I loved the pastry and the cream was fabulous.

That glazed pretzel looks mighty tasty to me but I don't love raisins. Does it have a lot of them?

I had never tried the old version but I had the new one a few weeks ago and I LOVED LOVED LOVED it! You really don't taste too much caramel and it is not overly sweet. I thought it was wonderful..even went back for another after a few days.

No! We're not raisin fans either. Does not have a lot of raisins...

Actually, when we had these pretzels in September 2008...assuming you're talking about the almond pretzels...we didn't even realize they had raisins in them:rotfl:

they are delicious. The overwhelming flavor is the almond & the sugar glaze that holds the kazillion almonds on.

I was there for the first time two weeks ago. We went to the bakery and I bought two school breads and a pretzel with lots of "stuff" on it....
Well I was looking at the school bread when we got back to SSR and I told my daughter, "this doesn't look like all the pictures. I wonder if I bought the wrong thing?"
Mystery solved....thank you! I will say that I liked it but it was WAY sweet, and I love sweet. I could only eat about 1/2. My daughter loved it and ate 1 1/2 though....lol. She can't wait to get more at Christmas!
I loved the french toast loaf from the main street bakery though...oh man that was SO good! I can't wait to have that again. cinnamon yumminess! I didn't put syrup on it...I don't think I would have liked it with syrup!

We had the new version on 9/23 and my DH and I LOVED it. It was very tasty, not overly sweet and perfect to share (may have been too sweet if I ate it all by myself....hmmm, nah! )I give the new version a definite :thumbsup2
