OK let's see...DH was about to turn 27 when we went to contract on our house. About a week later I found out I was pregnant (planned!)!! I turned 27 about 3 weeks after that. So that would put us at early June 2004. We closed and took possession of the house at the end of July. It took a month for all the work to be done and then we moved in at the end of August, and everything was done very quickly! I needed everything to be done before the school year started right after Labor Day and I had to go back to work! That was back when DH was working full-time as a massage therapist. We made the Labor Day BBQ at our house, I insisted!

I'm even crazier than that...I was 7 months pregnant when we had Thanksgiving at our house, because I always said that we were going to make the first Thanksgiving in our house the same year we bought it! And we did! I know, I'm nuts!
You're definitely nutso!
I already find it hectic enough to cook for 4 people on the weekday, I can't imagine doing it for 15+ people!!!!
We were very young compared to most people around here. We were 24 when we got married, and a lot of our friends have gotten married recently, which is more the norm around here. Most people I know get married and have kids well into their 30s. And many don't own a home, but some own a Co-op (they own an apartment in a big building). Houses are very expensive in Brooklyn, so a lot of people venture out to the suburbs, but the suburbs of NYC have higher real estate tax than the city, plus the commute for those who still have to work in the city (cost of either public transportation, or fuel costs, and if you live in NJ and work in NYC there are tolls too). So living in or around NYC costs a lot. This is probably a big reason why people tend to get married older here than some other parts of the country, although with salary in relation to cost of living I guess it's all relative no matter where you are. Either way, don't feel like you are old to be doing what you are doing...just do everything whenever you are comfortable and when it is meant to happen!
I was 22 when we got married and DH was going to be turning 23 a few days later. So we were relatively young. A lot of people (kids) around here get married at 18/19! But fortunately enough, those same couples are still happily married today, so great for them!
I think it was even harder for DH and me, because we had NO careers whatsoever...just jobs to get by while we were working on our getting our degrees! But if we can make it through all that, I'm sure we can make it through anything!
You are right about people's pics here on the DIS. What would I do if I had never seen a Dole Whip before my 2008 trip when I first tried one? I totally get what you are saying. I'm more nervous about something like posting pics of my kids and even of us sometimes. Mainly my kids though, but I don't have to post of them. I really don't like their pics being on a public site. Even on something like facebook, I have all the privacy settings in place. Also the fact that I'm a high school teacher, and kids and their parents can go to any of these sites, that has something to do with it! But I would love to take pics of the food and do a review of all the wonderful restaurants we will be enjoying. That I definitely don't mind doing, and I will check out photo bucket! Thanks so much!
Goodness, teachers have to be sooo careful with what they post on public forums, I really don't blame you for being paranoid about it. Any single thing you post, can be misconstrued by a student, and with the way kids are being catered to today, anything can get a teacher fired nowadays!
You'd think I would be less paranoid about these things...back in 2007 when I gave birth to my younger son, we appeared on the TV show "A Baby Story" on The Learning Channel (TLC). My older son Philip was in it too, he was 2 years old at the time! And they keep re-running the episode too! So I put my family on national TV but I seem to have more issues with the internet.
Omgosh, i used to watch that show ALL the time! I probably watched your episode!! How fun to have that all documented on tape, and you can refer back to it whenever you want! That's too cool! And they're still re-running it? I'm gonna have to keep an eye out for you then!
