Ugh. I have to go Jersey Week. How Bad?

If nobody read about "jersey week" online, then no one would know there was a jersey week (unless your from jersey) as you wouldn't notice a difference in crowds.

When I first heard "jersey week" I thought it was a week where a bunch of people wore sports jerseys lololol. Shortly after I realized of course it's when all the jersey shore guidos come down ;)

We are still taking my son out for 6 school days in January next year. Happy to fight the state in court if it comes to it. My kids, my rules.

As for Jersey week, done it twice. The last time was about 5 years ago and it was getting pretty crowded so we decided to try other seasons, giving up October and early November completely.

Public school, their rules. If you don't like the public school rules send your kids to private school.

We have been twice in November during Jersey Week and I didn't even know that was a thing other than hearing about it here on the Dis. We didn't find that it was an issue for our vacation either time. Go and have fun!

It's actually the first week of November. And someone from there will know better but I believe its only a couple days off but families make it a week long vacation.

You are right, most districts close for only a few days and not the whole week.

Home schooling is also an option! (though I don't know Jersey's rules on homeschooling.)

[Though your statement isn't fully true either. At least in theory, the general public has the ability to shape public school policy. If only we could all agree.]

I went during Jersey Week in 2012. My husband had a sales meeting there that week and we got a free room at the BC, so I didn't care if it was crowded, I was going anyway!

Well, the Jersey crowd wasn't as bad as all that. We had more issues with the convention crowd at Epcot and since we were there on the last weekend of F&W, we had a lovely experience with said conventioners overdoing it at Epcot. My son got a first taste of what seriously drunk looks like.

But I would equate the crowd level during Jersey Week to maybe mid May crowds(?) Not the lowest but nothing like summer or Thanksgiving crowds. On the upside it's not hot so you've got that going for you too. The hubby has another Orlando convention this year in early November, better crowds and this time we get the Hilton Orlando Bonnett Creek on Disney property. Yay!

It's not summer crowds but can be very close to spring break levels. It is also a federal holiday week AND the half marathon.

I was there for Jersey Week in 2011. It wasn't a problem, other than being stuck somewhere with a huge contingent of people from New Jersey, which shouldn't be an issue for you as you are from New Jersey. :-)

I have been 2012, 2013, and 2014----every year crowds are thicker.

NJ is one of the most relaxed regarding home schooling, from what I have read. And true, parents can make a huge stink as they are doing with Common Core. The Governor has stated he wants to now get rid of it.

OP - if I were you I would arrive Friday evening, Oct 30, go to the MNSSHP on Nov 1, and return home Friday, Nov 6 (just when the marathon begins). That's a nice 7 night vacation and you would avoid weekend wine and dine marathon crowds. You would also only be missing Mon - Wed - 3 days of unexcused absences. Thursday and Friday are off.

anybody from Jersey has the worst time with airfare that week as the airlines have caught on.

So true! Years ago I could get really good prices if I booked airfare right when they were released for Jersey Week. No more.... the prices are sky high from the get go. We live in Northern NJ so now we fly out of one of the NYC airports. Which stinks since we live about 20-30 minutes from Newark. One time we flew out of Long Island, boy that drive was fun! :scared:

We went last year during Jersey Week. It was our first time going during that time of year so I don't have anything to compare it to, but while the crowds were higher than I expected, they weren't overwhelming. And honestly I think my expectations were a bit out of line, as crowds have been increasing overall the last several years. But between FP+ and using a good strategy, we didn't wait longer than 15 or maybe 20 minutes for a ride in 9 days, with the exception of things like waiting for the parade. The restaurants were more of a problem, but I think free dining had a lot to do with that. Overall, great time to go! It only rained once, and was warm enough to swim several days.

Every week we go must be New England/Philly week because I see an inordinate amount of Pats/Phillies/Eagles jerseys and hats.....

Fellow NJ gal here...we are originally from Bergen county and moved to Burlington county. South jersey people think we have accents and we hear Philly accents/Philly talk.

South Jersey girl here! I must say, It really is no different than any other week.. People really make it out to be worse than it really is. It is no where near summer crowds or holiday crowds and that's for sure! You'll just see a lot more people that are from NJ during that week, thats all. Honestly, I thought the crowds during Jersey Week 2013 were MUCH better than the week we went last year, 11/12-11/18... and we've been going either JW or the week after since 1995, when there actually was a slow time in Disney. I am going during JW this year, and my airfare was $126 round trip, non-stop from AC Int'l.. I wasn't getting a better deal than that anywhere else!

We booked our Jersey Week airfare back in December as soon as it was released. $200/pp RT and that's with a bag each out of AC :thumbsup2 TBH I find airfare out of Newark to be insane no matter what your destination!
