Ugh. I have to go Jersey Week. How Bad?

anybody from Jersey has the worst time with airfare that week as the airlines have caught on. It wasn't too bad from DC though. Veterans Day is a Wednesday so it's not in play as much this year.

I think the biggest issue is the Wine and Dine Half Marathon which brings loads of extra folks to Epcot.

I'm going in August and flying out of Baltimore instead of Philly. Much cheaper even though I am 15 minutes from PHL.

I'm at DCA and I searched a bit but my airfare is hundreds less than that paid by my friends from Jersey.

I think the Jersey accent is only south Jersey.

I'm in South Jersey and I think the only accent is North Jersey. :D

It's two different accents. North Jersey has the quintessential "Jersey" accent. South Jersey's accent is closer to a Philadelphia accent (especially for people from the counties bordering Philly). I'm originally from Camden County and didn't realize I had an accent at all until I moved to NY and people told me I said certain things "funny". For example, I pronounce "str-" as "shtr" which is a Philadelphia thing. I never did say "wooder" instead of "water", though. ;)

Camden County here too!

Last time I was in WDW a man at Aloha Isle asked me if I was from NJ...I said yes. Then he pinpointed my county just by the way I talk. I thought this had to be a joke and he knew me somehow but nope. He was about 80 years old and lived in another state but was originally from NJ.

ETA: My dad lives in upstate NY. Whenever I go there I get a lot of looks and told I talk "funny" also.

When is this??

The marathon is the weekend beginning Friday, Nov. 6. The same long weekend as the NJ holiday.

I was at WDW for a conference over the NJ weekend 4 years ago (no marathon that weekend). There was definitely a big uptick in crowds by that Thursday going into the weekend, but nothing like peak season.

We were there Jersey week 2 years ago and last year a different (non-Jersey non-Thanksgiving) week in November and honestly it seemed more crowded to me the non-Jersey week so to me Jersey week wasn't a big deal.

Nothing wrong with the accent. I'm from the midwest, so my ear is more tuned into it. I've only heard the accent from South Jersey. I myself have a midwestern accent that everyone seems to pick up on, and my kids talk like me!

I remember hearing about the attendance requirements on the news. Every absence except a religious holiday or Take Your Child to Work Day now requires documentation, and family vacations are considered unexcused absences that count towards truancy. At five days total (not consecutive), there's an inquiry by the school, and at ten days total (not consecutive), the school may make a court referral. It seemed a bit harsh.

So, all sick days are excused and you get 9 unexcused days?

I'm not sure as I'm neither in NJ (I'm across the river) nor do I have a kid in their school system. From what the news was saying, it seemed that with a doctor's note, illness would be considered excused.

I'm in Salem county, we started flying out of BWI for our Jersey Week trips -- they haven't caught on there yet :) If you can, I would try another airport.

All days with a doctors note are excused.

Unexcused absenses are anything without a doctors note.

Your kid can miss 15 days with a doctors note and nothing will happen. At 10 days unexcused you are taken to court and at 16 days you repeat the grade.

My pediatrician doesn't have me bring my kids in for a routine stomach bug or most minor illnesses but will still give me a doctors note.

We've been on Jersey week several times and didn't even know it! So, the crowds were not an issue with us. Go and have fun:)_

For my past few trips, DCA has been significantly cheaper than BWI, for those of you willing to drive the extra hour. It's great for me since it's only 20 minutes from my house!

It's honestly not that bad. However, I'm an Pennsylvania girl married to a Jersey boy. :) We were there that week in 2011 and 2009. We had a blast. The weather was great and so were the crowds. Especially since we could enjoy F&W.
