Ugh, disgusted with myself

Right there with you. Spine surgery in December ruined me. I was at my thinnest in September on our last Disney trip. I actually thought I looked good in our pics! Then I put my back out in November, had surgery in December, and put on so much weight I can't even stand to be around myself. It was the worst time to be sedentary. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years,. I have a big trip coming up to California in July and I am desperately trying to lose 10 to 15 pounds. It's not easy since my back still prevents me from doing quite a bit of exercise. I eat barely anything. It's the activity. I need more.
Thats a difficult position, but you HAVE to let your spine heal up before you try to do anything! Im sorry you hurt your back! Hope that your surgery helped make all the pain go away!

There is a Maxi thread going, can you get a few longer skirts to wear at the parks? They will be cooler and hide some of the extra pounds.

OP...we have all been there! Don't beat yourself up...especially on your vacation. My suggestion is...drink a ton of water for a day or two before you go....you will lose some water weight, but you will "feel" thinner. Really!

Also...eat something small every two or three hours...apple..cheese stick...hard boiled egg. It will keep your metabolism humming and you won't be starving.

Think of all the exercise you will get at Disney!

Have a wonderful trip!!!
Hon, here's the reality: Nobody but you is shocked by how you look. Everybody that loves you is already used to it (and still love you anyway) and all the strangers at WDW who have never seen you before don't matter. These things creep up on us, especially when we're subconsciously trying not to notice.

My husband said when we get there, we can buy silly Disney T shirts to wear the whole trip. :)
This is a really great idea (and sounds like a great DH too!!). I consider theme parks to be destinations where comfy-casual is the rule. I could spend my entire trip there in bicycle shorts (to prevent chafing ) and big t-shirts. Best wishes and I hope you all have a great vacation. :wave2:

I LOVE maxi's!!! My only thought is, I would encourage you to walk around wearing one for a while as kind of a "test run" before you choose to wear one to the parks for a full day...it all depends on your body shape, but I have larger thighs, and if your thighs rub together in a dress/skirt, you will be in a world of hurt after several hours walking around :scared:

Compression shorts are your friend!!!!

Ahahah!!! I need to get a pair of those STAT!! I love my maxi skirts and dresses but always avoid them whenever I have to walk a lot specifically for that reason :rotfl:
My DD played basketball in HS and now just wears her compression shorts under all of her skirts and dresses. It makes a huge difference! She was using mens deo for thigh rub, but the compression shorts work much better!

I actually just got briefly stuck trying to get into my sports bra. Like half on can't get out stuck. Lets never speak of this again. Yikes.

Thank you so much for posting this!!! I fully get this! Been there. So funny to see I'm not alone. :lmao:

Yes warning warning!!! Test wear. I can not do this in summer without wearing "petti pants" or compression shorts. And because of the larger thighs I have I have to make sure my shorts are long enough to not ride up too. Chafing is the worse....especially at Disney.
My skinny son has to wear compression shorts under his bathing suit. His legs got super raw one summer. I felt so bad. Glad a young man at the sporting good store told me about this solution.

Compression shorts are your friend!!!!
Amen!!!

To the original poster!!!!
I feel for you. I am in the same boat. But my story goes like this, and I'm not blaming Disney because I have a ton of other excuses.
But in 2013 when we went for our 25th, I had started to lose weight and was panicking my summer clothes would be too big for vacation so I bought some end of season clearance clothing......once down in the humidity and heat (Fall 2013) the clothes I had packed as extras in the "too big size" were what I had to wear because the newer ones just were uncomfortable with all the swelling.
Then in 2014....Yikes I again bought end of summer clearance because now I was going the wrong way and new from 2013 I was going to need a few things that were loose when I left. I was right.
Summer type weather is here. I went to put on some capris.....oh crap!
Today I was at Walmart and was able to find not in the regular section but in plus size section two "tie me over" capris.
My vacation isn't until end of October and I'm scared. Just the little heat we have had so far......uncomfortable. I'm so glad we didn't decide to go in August or September.

Wishing you a good vacation but please dress comfortable. No one there is going to know you gained weight and you have to be comfortable so you can enjoy. And hopefully your walking and swimming will pay off.

Wishing you luck with some good sales this weekend.

Thigh rub....depending on how bad the rub is, they make slips that are shorts that are lightweight and probably cooler then compression shorts. They tend to ride up a bit at times but the silky material is nice :D.

I was just going to say this! I also wear the split slips under my dresses and skirts and the keep the chafing away and keep me cool.

Exactly! I love them. They come in a few lengths and Sears and JCPs carry them.

I empathize, OP. I could have written your post. I've let myself go over the past few years too and it is hard to get motivated to get back in shape. I did ww a few years ago and lost weight, but it is back on. I need a life change too.

I will tell you that I went and bought some new clothes that fit and I feel a little better. I recommend even buying a few pieces that fit well and you feel good in. I hadn't bought new clothes in a while (also wearing the baggy/hide my body clothes to work). I recently bought a few more stylish better fitting clothes and I feel a lot better about myself. I think I don't look as big/lumpy in clothes that fit will. I'm paying more attention to my appearance and have hope that I can look better, which I hope will translate into taking better care of myself. I kept putting off buying new clothes because I was going to lose weight. Ha! I only bought a couple of pairs of pants and a couple of tops, but it is nice to have something I feel good in.

So, yes, go to Kohl's or somewhere and just get a few outfits that look good and fit. Even a few capri's and shorts and some tops. You'll feel better. you can always wash and re-wear.

Have a great trip!

I'm in the same predicament op :crazy2: In Disney I do a lot of yoga capri's and some bermuda shorts that have stretch in them. I have a hard time finding shirts that are comfortable, long enough and hides the belly without being too big. sigh.

i love the maxi dresses and wear them almost all summer long. I've never done the compression shorts, but i buy chafing gel by monistat. it works amazingly!

i hope you find some clothes that are comfy and enjoy your trip!

A note on the tshirt idea. Be kind to yourself and try to find a women's tshirt that you like. Having put on weight and gaining in tummy and chest, if I try to wear a men's tshirt......yikes I feel frumpy and not as good about myself. I know this is not so for some and I don't know any of you so I don't know if you have the same built. Just sayin.
I have had some luck at Kohl's and was willing to put a little $$ into a top or two and had nice luck at Dress Barn too.
This week I had a nice black top from dress barn with some of those silky Pallazo pants and everyone was complimenting me that it looked like I lost weight. :-) I didn't and although I knew I gained the nice soft pants and dark top did make me feel better.

I just washed the new Disney Vneck I bought and will probably wear it tomorrow with the next size up capri jeans I bought at Walmart today.
I was watching Dr. Oz this week and there was a larger sized woman giving tips about what to wear. She said not to worry about size but get something that fits you the way you feel good and cut the size tag out. She had a lady that was wearing baggy wear something more fitted and a lady that was wearing too small wear another size up and both commented how much better they felt about themselves.

On that note, I'm going to purge the draws. Yard sale donations for the Relay for Life team next weekend. No use keeping my draw filled with things that don't make me smile. I just think about what an ego boost it will be when I have to start buying smaller clothes because I've lost weight, instead of putting on the "old stuff" now that it fits again.

I keep seeing posts about Yoga capris. Hmmm I bought a pair of full length that AI love, but thought the capris might be tight and therefore hot in summer. I'll have to try some.
The other thought about the maxis......Hmmm what do you wear for shoes with them. I'm not thinking my neon sneakers that I love to wear at Disney is going to look good with the dress. I've been wearing some Teva sandals and yikes I miss my sneakers. Thinking about all that walking.
