Ugh! AP Renewal Is a Voucher

I didn't even know they were renewing APs yet. Still not selling new ones, right?

If you're a *current* AP holder, they'll renew your AP at renewal prices. If you were an AP holder whose AP expired since the covid closure, and you're outside your 30 day renewal window, they'll allow you to purchase a new AP at new (not renewal) AP prices.

Still not selling new AP's to non-AP holders, though.

Our current APs expire on Nov. 30th, but I was lucky enough to have a CM get the authorization to renew them early for me due to the high demand of park reservations in December. The vouchers expire on December 31st 2099.
We go on December 10th, so I wonder if when we redeem them, they'll begin new with a December 10th start date, or be retroactive and continue the date so they expire next November again.

If you got the “15% renewal discount” They will be retroactive and expire one year from Nov 30.

Do you know which number to call for that? Is it the AP number or ticketing extension of the standard number?

Sorry out of town for the weekend and busy quitting my job.

How did you receive a voucher? I also recently renewed my AP but I received nothing the AP just showed up on MDE and shows an expiration date

I don't know, but it shows up as a voucher in MDE and they sent an email. I can tell it's a voucher, because the expiration date is sometime in 2030.

Do you mean a physical voucher? Or is that what it says in MDE?

It’s the same as always. As long as the renewal is linked in MDE, it will become valid when the old one expires. The only reason you’d have to visit GS is if you want a new AP card.

I think I will have to go to GS. It's in MDE, but it has a future expiration of 2030.

Is it showing up in MDE with an expiration date like a hundred years in the future or one a year from when your old one expired? Mine had an expiration date way in the future so we had to go to guest services when we got there. It wasn't a big deal. Super fast wait and it took them maybe 5 minutes to activate them and get us new AP cards.

Yep, 2030. I know the process at GS is fast, but if you don't catch the line right, the wait can be really long. Plus, it should have just automatically extended the AP instead of making me talk to someone again :rotfl2:

The process was simple when we finally went back to Disney in June (we are also out of state). You just need to have an ID on you and show the voucher on MDE. I think we spent about 15 mins with the cast member (multiple vouchers as well). The only annoying aspect was the line and waiting in the rain. ☔ Fortunately the line was not very long.

Not looking forward to the line. Been there done that way too many times.

Everytime we have renewed our AP, it goes directly to MDE, but we still have to go to Guest Services or a ticket window to activate it and get our new card.

I have never had to go to GS except for new APs. All of my previous renewals were online and just extended the expiration date of my AP.

I am out of state, and have had an AP for 5 years now.

I have always renewed my AP online, early, and have never had to activate the "new" one. It just seamlessly works once the old one expired.

I have stopped to get a new card a couple times, but never at renewal time. Just when I thought about it.

Me too. So I thought this was really weird.

I believe Florida residents also have to visit guest services to activate renewals. You know...to prove they are indeed still Florida residents.

I'm out of state and not a blue card DVC.

Do you know which number to call for that? Is it the AP number or ticketing extension of the standard number?

I am also in a strange situation.
I purchased an AP a few years back with an expiration of 2030. I am beginning to think it would be a good idea to activate it prior to any new changes to the AP program that Disney has been dreaming up.

My problem is that all information tells me that my AP can only be activated at a ticket window ( I live out of state). Due to the park pass reservation system, I won't have an opportunity to reserve park days until the AP is activated, i.e. after I travel down to Florida. This sounds risky, planning a vacation without knowing when/if I can get into the parks or even which park I will have access to.

You can reserve park reservations with a non-activated AP in your account - I did it with our original AP that was not activated until we got to the park in Oct 2020 and then with the renewal I have sitting in my account I was able to use it to secure park reservations for our March 2022 trip since our current AP expires mid-Oct 2021.

O.o
OMG, I will try it out. I would have never even considered that Disney would let me tie up reservations like that. Thank you!

Just to be clear (because there are so many others also reading along)
general WDW ticket issues can be handled at Ticket Booths, Guest Relations, and Will Call windows.
And, many can be handled at WDW resort Concierge Desks.

I did it too. We have over a years worth until we activated our APs.

Were you able to reserve park days with your un-activated AP? So, back in the day, pre-COVID, I bought APs (DVC-Gold) for DH and myself for a trip in June 2020 since I knew we'd be going back in March 2021...

then COVID hit, and our June trip was cancelled bc the parks were closed.....BUT then we scheduled a trip for Oct. 2020 to use up the DVC points that were returned after we cancelled the June trip, so by now 2 things had happened...

1. Park reservations were a "thing"
2. I had APs but we'd never activated them in the park but they were valid in my MDE

I was totally able to make park reservations for Oct PRIOR to our arrival and then once on property, we went to Epcot first, and activated our APs and got our cards before walking into the park - TA-DAH!

and now, we have a trip scheduled for March 2022 - which is past our expiration date of those APs, so MONTHS ago I called up DVC, who transferred me a time or 2 I think, and they were happy to sell me a renewal AP DVC-Gold pass so I could make park reservations for our March 2022 trip!

so now when we go to Disney in November, I'm assuming we have to stop at the Passholder window and activate our renewals....or did someone say I could do it at the Concierge desk at a resort? We'll be at the VGF in November!
