Would it be a bad idea to "gamble" on using Uber or Lyft from a Disney resort to Port Canaveral for a cruise? It's not a Disney cruise so i can't use Disney transportation.

I've looked into local transportation companies and the price is reasonable when you compare what it costs per person for the cruise line transfers, but it's still a lot when you add it all up. The fare estimate for Uber or Lyft, while still high, is a lot less (about half based on the estimates I've done). My fear is that I don't know how reliable it will be to find a driver willing to take the ride considering it's kind of a longer distance between Orlando and Cape Canaveral. I also don't know if pricing may surge on cruise day and even if I schedule in advance, they could potentially cancel on me.

I know, the smart thing to do is just reserve with a transportation company. I guess I'm just curious if anyone has relied on rideshare in this scenario and how it worked out.

Ride share drivers have posted on these forums that they don't know the destination until after they've accepted the ride.

I've had them cancel on me after accepting though. This is my worry.

One poster said that changed. I don't remember if the driver is told actual destination or mileage.

You have to assume dynamic pricing AKA as price gouging, will increase pricing on cruise days.

One ride share strategy I've been using lately that seems to work is to schedule a ride to see what the going fare is, but then not take it right away. Wait about 15-20 minutes later, then check the fare again. More times than not, the fare goes down by a good bit. Especially if your to/from location is an airport, train station, bus depot, etc. Dont know if this is pure coincidental, but its been working, so Im gonna keep doing it.

I know guys that have gotten rideshare from MCO to Melbourne. Don't know if they had a wait but they got there. Also managed to get rideshare from Melbourne back to MCO. It's only 45 miles, I'd expect it to be expensive but not impossible.
