I recently read this post! I dont think it matters what you pay or what hotel you stay at! A family of 6 like mine could afford to stay at a deluxe but instead we choose to take 2 trips a year! We love all star movies and We love the moderates. Disney is a language everybody knows its about flying elephants, hidden beaty and wishing upon a star! So it shouldnt matter what you pay disney is disney and every 1 here is blessed with that love! Dont you think?

I absolutely agree with you 100%. Being married to a CM we could stay just about anywhere with a great discount, but we prefer the All Stars or Dixie, because we are averaging 5 trips a year now. We make our resort budget stretch, especially since we collect pins too!! Stay where you are the most relaxed is how I feel. 4 weeks to go for our Spring trip-- 2 weeks of Disney, only to return in late June for another 1 and 1/2 weeks, then a long weekend in August, back again in September for the pin event (19-24), then ending the year for the food and wine festival Oct. 24-Nov.2

Heck by all means, stay where you can! If you can stay in a nice hotel, do so if you can only afford a humble offsite room, then do it!

It beats staying at home.

We could probably afford to stay wherever we wanted, even with our 3 wk/yr Disney habit. The fact tof the matter is, however, we like seeing lots of different resorts, and when we stay at the Deluxes and spend every waking moment in the parks anyways, we feel like we're just wasting money. We don't enjoy the amenities, since we're just not there.

Our solution? Spend several days at a Value or Moderate, then end the trip with a few days at a Deluxe, when we've seen the parks and are ready to relax a little. It works for us!

I guess you do get what you pay for, but we just think it's foolish to pay for more than you need!

Is this thread based on another thread of the same title? Just wondering, I would like to read the original, but I can't find it?

As my dear departed friend, Mac, would say:

Don't worry about the mule, just loooooooaaaaad the wagon!

I stayed at ASMu last April and loved it! I want to see all the resorts that I read about! This October trip, we're staying at CSR for three nights and AKL for 5 nights! I make up my mind where I want to stay, then plan my budget.....it only took me two months to scrape up the money for the April trip. Since I want to stay longer and stay at CSR/AKL this time it's taking me ten months. I think that's the only way to do it. Anyone can stay at a deluxe, even not rich folk like myself....you just gotta make a plan then work it.:D

We are staying at Moderates this year, too, so that we can go more often!

We stayed 7 nights in December(12/22-12/29) at AKL with AP rate of $187/nt with tax!

We stayed 8 nights at CBR in March with the AMEX discount of $120/night with tax. When DS found out we were staying at CBR, he said, "Why can't we stay someplace nice?" Is he spoiled or what?

We are staying 2 nights at ASSp(5/31 & 6/1) with AP rate of $77/nt with tax. Then 13 nights at PO-R(6/2-6/15) with postcard rate of $94/nt with tax!!!!

AND FINALLY, 5 nights at Poly for DIS-CON 2 for free because we joined DVC!

We are really getting our money's worth out of those AP's!!

I like PO-FQ almost as much as WL--which is my favorite resort!

I agree that you get what you paid for and thats one of the reasons I would never stay at the all smalls again. and yet I still manage one - 2 trips a yr. there are usually discounts to be had. and getting a huge discount on a deluxe is wonderful and well worth it. if I had to pay full price my trips would be cut down to once every 2 yrs.

I disagree with "you get what you pay for". We got much more than we paid for at ASMO last year. The cheaper price was just an added bounus. ;)

We stayed at ASMo in Jan and loved it!!!!! I didn't find it small at all, but like I'm always saying- size is relative. It was my DH, myself, and our 4yo DS in one room and my mom and her DH in a connecting room. So, there were 4 adults and 1 child in two rooms and we kept the door open between most of the time. I would definitely stay there again -at a good rate. We had a $49 FL Res rate and I wouldn't pay much more than that. In Nov we stayed at the Courtyard in DD for $25. That room was spacious, although plain, and had lots of amenities. The pool area was nice, we had our own car and a great view of DD and fireworks at night. That was a TERRIFIC value-3 nights for $83.25 (including tax). In May we have a FL Res rate ( switched it from an already great code) of $84 at CBR. I've never stayed in a Disney mod (Jan was my first time onsite), but I know that this is an outstanding value. I think the trick here is getting MORE than what you pay for.

When you live in an 850 sq ft house, All Stars doesn't seems small at all. Even with discounts, the deluxes aren't affordable to us anymore if we want to take multiple trips a year. We have been lucky enough to have stayed at the Polynesian once, Wilderness Lodge once and the Contemporary twice (the second time was a comp room). Sure we loved it, having the convenience of the monorial, larger rooms, nicer amenities, but I felt unless we were going to spend 50% of the day at the resort (not counting sleeping) it just wasn't worth the money even at an AP discount. We paid $54 a night for our room at Movies in December which was our 3rd stay at that resort and we certainly got more than what we paid for. Give me a value or moderate resort anyday!!!

I'm the one who said "You get what you pay for" in a recent post. You have taken it out of context completely. It was in response to a person who made a comment about the existance of a slide at SAB, but no slide at the AS Resorts. In context it is a perfectly logical response.

If you spend more money on a resort room, you should expect additional amenities to go along with the additional cost. One would not think it reasonable to expect the same room size and amenities at a resort that you paid $100 rack per night as you would get at a resort which you paid $400 rack per night. That would not be realistic. Florida law requires a life guard be present at all times when a pool slide is in use. That life guard can not guard any water except the slide. So adding a slide to a value resort would increade the costs of running that resort, which would be passed along to the guests. The whole idea of offering a value resort is to offer a variety of rooms types to those who have differing wants, needs, or budgets.

It did not imply that anyone was a bad person for not staying at a deluxe every night, nor did it imply that everyone should. If your group plans on using the room at a WDW resort for no purpose other than sleeping and bathing, then it would be prudent to stay at a value or moderate resort. The rest of the post went on to imply that it was wrong to stay in a concierge room and invite friends who were staying in other resorts to come use the concierge lounge food and beverages with you. I think we can all agree that this would not be acceptable.

I wonder if DisneyKirst13 didn't respond directly to the original thread as she didn't want people to see that she had taken my words very much out of context.

Anne,
I didn't read your original post (I don't know the thread title), but I agree with you. As someone who stayed at the ASMo, I would also like to add that we did spend some time there other than just sleeping and such and still had a wonderful time. Since our son is 4 , he needs that break!!! It was wonderful to come back and go in the pool. My DH went in with him and I got a drink from the pool bar and sat in a lounge chair and had a great time!!! There was someone doing hairwraps there as well. Our mousekeeper did cute things with our towels and stuffed animals. The kids in that pool were having a blast- they didn't seem to be missing the non-slide. I think that everyone has to choose what suits them best. Since we live in FL ( and my DH gets NO paid vacation at all) it is easy for us to do a few trips a year. We will stay where we get our money's worth. I'm dying to stay at the BC or Poly for my Bday (labor Day weekend), but we have to see. I may be working again by then and have the extra money. As someone who would have NEVER stayed at the AS after reading these boards (DH talked me into trying it), I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and will now have a harder time justifying spending the money on a deluxe (I'm dying for the BC!!) 39 days until CBR!!!!!!!!

Before the All Stars opened we stayed at CBR and DL. We really liked these resorts. When the Canadian dollar started to drop we stayed at the AS. We noticed the difference in resorts but felt that we spent most of the time in the parks anyway. We booked a room at the AS Movies for this August last month. The Amex bill just came and my $100.00 U.S. deposit cost me $162.50 CAN. If there weren't value resorts we couldn't afford to stay on-site!!

Here's my opinion on this debate. I have been numerous times and have stayed on-site almost all of the trips. Most of the stays have been at either a value or moderate resort. While I was a CM, we had the opportunity to stay at a couple of the deluxe resorts. I do not see a problem with staying at a value or moderate. I have only run into bad service at my one visit to DxL. All of our visits to Port Orleans & the All Stars have been great. We were able to get the $49 last year at the Movies, which saved us quite a bit of money. My sister's stayed at a Sheraton one visit and called me the same day they arrived begging me to get them a room on-site. They said it was the resort from hell, from the service to the room and so on. I always enjoyed staying on-property. I never rent a car, so staying on-site allows me to use the Disney transportation. This way if I want to leave to take a break during the day, all I have to do is jump on a bus and go. I love waking up to Mickey on the phone and my nephews really enjoyed watching the Disney World station.

We have enjoyed staying at every resort on disney Property for the past decade (+). We have made many memories and had tremendous fun at all the moderates and the value Resorts. I love the diversity each resort affords, and the different facades, the variety of decor and horticulture...themes...etc.

We truly believe the magic is "in" each of us...and we bring this to the resorts, parks to "enhance" our experience! I am thankful Disney offers resorts to accomodate the various financial situations of the masses. We are not all equal, and what a dull world it would be if we were!

We are blessed to be able to afford a deluxe each time we now visit. Then again, while we were at DXL, or CBR...we never thought we were "missing" out on anything just because we were in a moderate! We felt just as blessed during those stays. What you don't know, you never miss. We loved every moment... as true Happiness~ is where you lay your head! Every resort is magical, and each one is definitely special. You are still "ON PROPERTY", and "IN THE MAGIC" at the WDW All Stars...CBR...DXL...PO...etc.! Enjoy Disney World all you wonderful DISers...Wherever you stay!:D
