Typhoon Lagoon Snorkel Question

We would love to try Shark Reef at TL in May, but I am concerned about the snorkels they let you use. I assume that they just re-use the same snorkels over and over all day long. But, do they *clean* them in between uses?

I know that would be costly and time consuming, but I just cannot put a snorkel in my mouth that some person with (pnumonia, bronchitis, mono, strep, insert any other nasty sickness ) just used. And I KNOW that sick people go to the parks regardless of their sickness.

Should we just plan to bring some for ourselves? Is this allowed?

they clean them after each use, they are quite safe I've been through there a few times, and never had a problem.

Just kidding no it included I think they did have a pay option for tanks or something but the snorkleing is free.

To answer a few questions on one of my favorite attractions. No, you cannot bring your own mouthpiece. Disney only allows their snorkels/masks in the shark reef.

I've done it several times and never had a problem. What they do is send all the mouthpieces through a highly technical process (don't know what it's called) and completely, 1000% santiize like brand new all mouthpieces. If they did not do this, trust me, they'd have every organization from PETA to NHA on their case. Don't worry, they are well cared for.

Also, I think they used to allow tanks for charge awhile back, and may still have "preopening" dives, but have not heard anything about it for a very long time. Shark reef is the bomb!! Just make sure you get there early, the lines in the afternoon can be brutal!

The snorkels are sanitized quite well, and the water is quite cold and you have to know how to swim. Great place,

Yep, they are sanitized. Beware, the water is very chilly though. It is an attraction not to be missed. It is very cool(neat).

I remember when nobody was over at this attraction. Go figure. Kinda like Living with the Land. For some, unexplained reason, its popularity shot up about 4 years ago. Now with it near Soarin, fuhgeddaboudit w/o FP.

My DH had a great laugh. Ds 6 was soo keen to swim, then when we got close to the tank he changed his mind 3 times. the last time was when i was waist deep in the tank. ARRGHHH, but i did not trust him to make his way to his dad, on his own so I crawled out..not the easiest thing to do. anywhoo..maybe we'll try when he is older.

It used to be great, you got there, swam. Now you have to wait to go in a group. We were at WDW for 14 days last August and went to TL about 8 times, the firt day they had snorkels, but after that day, they only had masks, as too many of their snorkels were damaged..... Snorkeling without a snorkel is really not that much fun.

They definitely do use a heavy duty cleaner on the equipment. We went through shark reef 7 times in one day, then my DD (9 at the time) had a reaction to the cleaner.(she has sensitive skin) It appeared the next day; we thought it was a sunburn and were surprised b/c we are so diligent with sunscreen. Then suddenly we realized her "burn" was in the shape of the mask! We bought some cream at the POP gift shop and it went away in a few days!
