Tricks.....
1. I use the nylon thread from
Walmart. I double it and then sew around the design. I pull it really tight as if it was rubber banded.
2. Wrap the rest of the shirt with rubber bands. It should look like a snake.
3. Soak the shirt with water. I also add a tsp of vinegar to make sure it sticks to the shirt good.
4. I keep the bottles from when I hilight my hair and use them to squirt on the dye. It works well since you don't have to worry about it squirting around. The bottles can really make all the difference in the world.
5. Squirt the shirt starting with the nylon thread sewn area. Alternate colors as you go. I use three colors only.
6. Let the shirt sit in the sun for about 10 hours or more. Rinse and let dry in the sun for about the same. I keep it outside over night over the playset.
7. Wash in warm water and dry in the dryer. The sun seems to help keep the colors from blending together.
8. You don't think the shirt will turn out but it does!
9. If you carefully squirt the shirt around the nylon, it really does work. I have even thought myself it won't but, it does.
10. The rit dye and Walmart t-shirts really work best. I also did this for the MGM hat. I posted pics. Please post some of yours when you finish. I love to look at everyone's creations. Hope this post helps.
Have fun everyone!!! Kelly
