Pretrip Report
I cant believe I am starting to write this in March. Im not going until December! But I just have to do something Disney related.
Last years trip was PERFECT. Just PERFECT. I cant begin to tell you how much we enjoyed ourselves. Oh wait, I did with my trip report last year. As soon as we got home, we decided we were absolutely going to plan on going again this year. We even bought new luggage. We bought two new suitcases with four wheels that you can roll around even when they are upright. I didnt want blue or black so we got a beautiful cranberry color, which is easier to find in the baggage claim. We also bought TSA approved locks for the luggage from safeskieslocks.com which can be opened by us with a combination which is easily reset to any desired number. TSA baggage screeners can open the locks with a key, inspect contents and relock if necessary. As soon as we got them home, I transferred everything in my overnight bag and threw the old one away. It was done for and collapsing. There is still room in the new one for a small child, but Im sure I will be able to fill it up. In March I was checking out airfares for December. I found out that in leaving on Tuesday the 11 would be over $100 cheaper than leaving on Monday. Im not going to book that flight just yet. My DH told me to try and book Cinderellas Royal Table for dinner. I was over the moon with that idea. I know the very close friend of the Fairy Godmother so it will be wonderful seeing her at the dinner experience if I can book it. I cant try to book until June so I have to be patient. Im not good at that. Not good at all.
This trip is kind of special for us. Well be celebrating 42 years of wedded bliss and our 25th Disney anniversary. Yes, thats right, weve been going to Disney World every year for 25 years. We usually stayed off property so we could stay longer. Our trips started out at two weeks. Then we had such a good time that we stayed a couple more days and then a couple more days, until finally we were there for almost three weeks. Last year we decided that three weeks was too long for us because its so hard for me to walk around. So now our trip is just a little over a week. But jam packed with fun and romance. Our bodies wont take the thrill rides any longer, but we enjoy the beauty of Disney World at Christmas time and seeing the childrens reactions to the characters.
Oh I guess I should introduce the cast.
Me: Mary, 62, the trip planner. I start the countdown clock for our return trip the day we come back from our last trip. As of today (March 9, 2007) its only 275 more days. WOOOHOOO!
DH: Ron, 72, the best husband in the whole world. Spoils me rotten and does everything he can to make me happy. Also hes my entertainment director. I plan the trip and he plans each days entertainment.
Well here it is May 1. I called and got our room reservations at the Polynesian. The codes dont come out until August so I will have to call and change our reservations then. Only 201 more days.
Its June 16th and I GOT IT!!! I got a dinner reservation at Cinderellas Royal Table. I am so happy. I called right at 7am and got right in. Now I have to wait a few more days to get reservations for the Grand Tea at the Grand Floridian and our dinner at Kona.
June 26th. I called and got our reservations for Kona for the four of us. I also got a reservation for the Grand Tea at the Grand Floridian. I emailed my friend and she put the date on her calendar. I cant wait. Only 167 more days.
July25th. I got our flight reservations and our limo reservations all done. Things are coming along great. Only 138 more days to go.
August 15th. The AP codes came out this morning and I called tonight and got our discount. Saved almost $500! I can live with that. Only 116 more days.
September 13th. I got our seat assignments for our flight to MCO. We like the back row and got the seat by the window and the one next to it. Only 88 more days! Right now I am getting ready to close our pool for the year. Then I can start decorating the house for Halloween. Time is passing! Im also helping with my DILs baby shower at the end of the month. They are expecting a boy, Jesse, towards the middle of November. We are all so excited.
September 21st. I got our seat assignments for our flight back home. We got the back row again. We closed the pool and now it is getting up in the 80s again. But I am getting out all the decorations for Halloween. Another two days and I will be done with that. Next weekend is the baby shower. I am looking forward to that. In the meantime, Im going to buy some pins for trading. Ebay here I come. Only 80 more days to go.
November 13th. Our grandson Jesse was born today. He weighed 7 lbs. 15 oz and was 21 inches long. Its going to be so hard to leave him for our trip, but Im already thinking of all the things Im going to be buying for him. Only 24 days to go.
November 25th. I ordered our tickets today. One AP and one 8 day PH. I only have one more thing to do. Get my Disney Dollars transferred to my reward card. I got an email from my CM friend that she cant make our tea at the Grand Floridian. I have to wait to hear if she can make it another time and try to change my reservation. I sure hope so. I was looking forward to it.. Only 15 more days to go!
November 29th. I got my Disney Rewards card loaded up with all 278 points. I have a feeling that most of them will be spent on presents for my grandson and the rest on pins. Only 9 days left. WOW I am really getting excited now. We are mostly all packed and ready to go.
December 10th. I just printed out our boarding passes. Now just waiting , waiting, waiting. This is the longest day!
TRIP REPORT
Day 1 Tuesday December 11th
I didnt get much sleep, but then I never do the night before. Ron was up at 2 and I was semi awake from 2 until I got up at 3. We got everything ready by the door and our DS Chuck picked us up right on time at 4. We got to the Atlantic City, NJ airport by 4:40. We neednt have rushed. There were only a dozen or so people waiting in the security line. We breezed through and waited for our plane to board. It wasnt a bad flight, just a tad bumpy. We did see a glorious sunrise. We both catnapped and arrived in just under two hours. Our Tiffany ride was waiting for us and helped us with our bags. We stopped at Publix to pick up a few essentials and were at the Poly by 10. Unfortunately our room wasnt ready. They told us our room would be ready between 3 and 5. We really wanted to relax for a while, but that wasnt going to happen. We sat in the lobby for a while thinking about what to do. We went over to the GF and looked at the tree for a while. They took away the chairs right by the gingerbread house, so everyone was grabbing the chairs on the other side. We sat around for a half hour and really wanted to do something. Epcot was calling. We took the monorail over and got our tickets and rented a wheelchair. SSE was open and no line at all, so we got on. There isnt a whole lot new. Judi Dench is now the narrator. She is a fine actress, but not so good as a narrator. You have to strain to hear what she is saying. The dialog sounds like it came from those old travelogs of 50 years ago. There is a little video screen on each car and at the end of the ride it asks you a few questions and is supposed to make a little cartoon of what your future will be. Yep, thats what its supposed to do. Out of all the cars, mine was the one to die from the finger of death. I got the dreaded blue screen. I have no future.
I consoled myself at the pin station and Mousegears. By then I was exhausted and we left for the Poly. It was just after 3 and our room was ready. YIPPEE! We got our luggage put away and laid down for an hour. That really helped. It was so humid and it really tired us out. We went back to Epcot and rode Soarin and had a bit to eat at Seasons. We were both running on empty and decided to call it a day. We stopped at CC and DH got his Dole Whip and I got my hot chocolate. Finally collapsed into bed by 10, only to hear the fireworks. I looked out our window and we could see the fireworks! They had upgraded us to a pool view and a view of the fireworks. How wonderful!
