Two trips or one long trip?

Which would you do?

  • two smaller trips (both five nights in a studio)

  • one long trip (BCV for five, Poly for two and VWL for another five)

We've borrowed about half of next use year. We planned on taking two short trips with what we had left - first week of January 2006 (five nights in a studio) and then early June (also five nights in a studio).

January is already booked at our home at BCV, hoping to change to BWV. We hoped to get VWL for June.

We have a trip in a couple weeks and really none of us are that excited. I'm thinking we have burn out. I'm wondering if we'd be better off taking one long trip next year instead in early June and not going in January to give us a nice long break. (Plus, I'm a little worried about holiday stress.) Thinking about BCV for five nights, Poly (We've always wanted to stay there!) for Friday and Saturday night, then heading over to VWL for five more nights.

Has anyone taken a trip that long? I thought the first week we could do Epcot and MGM, the second week MK and AK. I dunno... Thoughts?

This Aug DS13 & I are going for 2wks
Im calling Mon morn to see if we can get WL 1st Sat night, VWL Su-F, WL Fri & Sat then BCV Su-Sat

We're currently booked at Pop first 5nights, WL 3nights and BCV 6nights (last yrs pts)
I decided today to try to use part of this yrs pts and change Pop to VWL, and Th to Sat at WL

good luck and Im thinking that since its the summer it would be nice to have a more relaxing vacation

longer trips are nice because you can fit more of your favorite things into one trip :)

Shan;

I suggest two smaller trips. The trips break up the daily routine. I'm taking a trip in May, end of August, and my favorite time of the year, Xmas. It's easier to plan if only doing one but it's more fun to do many. Some of these trips I will not visit Disney (okay, maybe a side trip or two; I do have my annual pass to use. ::yes:: ) but just relax and be away from home. It is important to get away from home and relax, even if I don't do anything on the trip.

I think I'm leaning toward the longer trip, but I'm gonna hang onto our January ressie for now.

Hubby is a harder sell. He likes the idea of the longer trip, but thinks it will be easier to get away from work for two smaller trips instead.

I just know we're burned out. Even the girls don't seem that excited about our upcoming trip. Yesterday we made a countdown chain using stickers, etc. I was hoping to spark some excitement.

Waiting for a trip in June will give them a FULL year break. Plus, we don't use credit cards at Christmas so money will not be as abundant on that January trip. I dunno...

The idea of the longer trip seems nice cause we can do things at a really relaxing pace.

Thanks everyone. I'd still like to hear more opinions!

Personally, I would opt for the longer trip. I rarely get to take two consecutive weeks off from work. But when I have that opportunity, I notice that I can really relax the second week.

It seems that on week one I am still decompressing from the work world and the second week I can really get into vacation mode.

Good luck with your choices. I'm sure that you will figure out what's best for you and your family. :)

I am a fan of longer trips. Our next vacation is 15 nights!! 3 nights at All star Sports, 8 nights at BCV and 4 nights at AKL. This way we can relax, enjoy the resorts and take our time.

We originally planned three 5-7 day trips over 2005 and 2006. We have since changed our minds and are going 11 days this summer and 12 days next summer. For us, it will be two relaxed vacations as opposed to three somewhat rushed vacations. Good luck on your decision.

Sorry I can't give any advixe, but I do want to tag along to listen to what people say. We're facing the same dilema, and chose the one long trip this year because of of the cost of airline tickets. We'd rather pay for airfare once than twice. In the past, we've always taken shorter trips, but that was when DH flew alot more for business-love those frequent flier miles! But now, new job where he's not flying so much-so this year, for the first time, we're going and I'm staying 13 days (part solo). Previously, 6 nites has been the most. I'm anxious to hear others' comments.

Shan,

Opt for the longer trip and do it in a different way. If you have an AP, go into the parks later in the day...Lounge at the pool, play mini golf, ride a surrey...Make it a resort vacation! You're probably going to feel the pull to go into the parks, you'll be surprised.

Can I ask, how many times have you been there in the past year that you are actually tired of WDW?

I think it depends completely on your situation.

For us, living in Miami, a series of shorter trips work better. We are currently planning a 3-4 day trip in December and a 5-6 nighter in May '06. But...it's just an easy 3 hour drive and we have a pre-schooler, so we can take advantage of the kids being in school. YMMV.

Shan,

I would opt for the longer trip in June. This way you can go a little more leisurely, especially during June. The parks are open longer, you can make a side trip to one of the water parks or DQ, the possibilities are endless. What I would give for a long and relaxing trip.

If you think you guys are suffering WDW burnout, then definitely skip Jan. to give yourselves a semi-break.

Enjoy planning.

Denise, this AP we got -
June 2004 trip w/ girls
July 2004 trip w/ girls
October 2004 trip w/o girls
February 2005 trip w/o girls
and now April 2005 w/ girls

So my girls haven't been since last July... Yet, they still don't seem that excited. :confused3
We're going back in July with my Mom (hubby isn't going) to hang out at the resort, we aren't doing the parks that trip.

This April trip will make 10 trips to WDW for my 7 year old (not including a Disneyland trip) and 8 trips for my 4 year old. I guess it is just too much??? It is just so tempting living a half day's drive, an AP and now DVC points.

Now that we purchased APs I voted for 2 trips. Actually, we will get to WDW at least 3 times using our APs before they expire. Annmarie

No no no Shan....you must go in January so we can meet up at Disney! ;)

Seriously though...I'd stick with two shorter trips. 5 nights is still a great vacation...and you get a break from the summer heat. With the very different Christmas break schedule we have this year, I know my kids will be looking for something to do by Jan 1st!

Also, I'm not sure I'd want to be in a studio for more than 5 nights with two kids...but that's a very personal family decision.

I love the longer trips. We had one 6 day rip last fall, and I felt deprived! :rotfl2:

We're taking our first vacation that will be longer than 7 nights this August. We'll be in WDW for 11 nights...6 at SSR, 2 at BWV, 3 at BCV. I am looking forward to not feeling rushed and enjoying the resorts and some other things we haven't done in WDW yet. Plus, with August being so hot, I have no desire to trudge through the parks every day.

If I lived within a half a day's drive to WDW, I wouldn't even have to think twice about frequent trips. It's the always needing 5 airline tickets that gets us sometimes.

I have to say that I would want a nice long trip like that :flower: My problem would be my job; as a mortgage loan originator, my business would suffer too much if I left for that long

I voted for you to take the long trip, however, because you will have longer to look forward to it. Maybe, HH or VB should go on your list of destinations in the future also :sunny: I will definitely take longer trips when I retire :teeth:

If it were me, I'd go for the longer trip. Absence makes the heart fonder. We took last year off from Orlando (it was a rough year in more ways than missing Disney), and now we can't wait for our July trip (and it's only 5 nights!)

Peace,
G4L

this wknd we booked 1/2 of our Aug 06 2wk vacation - a wk on a Disney Cruise. DS & I plan to head to WDW for a wk before that
