Two Grandmas and the grandkids... Marathon weekend 2016 PTR (update 1/3)

Well we made an ADR change on the first day. Instead of Akershus we decided on Via Napoli for some pizza and at a later time so we had some more time at DHS. So now we have a Via Napoli ADR for January 6th at 7:30pm.

We did it. We booked airfare. We waited to see if prices fluctuated at all which they did a bit and we felt this was the best time to book. We are flying Southwest.

We will depart from MKE (Milwaukee) January 5th at 3:50 pm if all goes well with the plane, winters are rough in Wisconsin. We should arrive at MCO (Orlando) at around 7:40pm. We have nothing planned for this night other than getting to the hotel and settling in. We will probably grab a quick bite to eat at the Beach Club when we get there.

On January 11th we depart from MCO at 6:10pm. I like the later departure so it gives us some more relaxation time before we leave, maybe a quick trip to DTD. We should arrive back in Milwaukee at 8:10pm. Luckily us school kids are off of school on the 11th but will have to go back on the 12th.

Congrats on booking your flights!
I think that even if you are delayed a little (although I hope you're not), you should get to Disney at a decent time. And the late departure on the 11th should definitely make for a more relaxed departure day! Although it's sad that you have to be back at school on the 12th ... I think "the day after Disney" should always be a school holiday.
(By the way - the time difference confused me so much! I was trying to figure out how the flight was 4 hours in one direction and 2 hours in the other direction ... it took me a few minutes to remember that Wisconsin and Florida are in different time zones).

Yeah I would agree about the school holiday but I don't think my mother would.

Yes lose an hour going down gain an hour coming home.

I like the late departure also. I hate leaving in the morning, because it always feels like a wasted day. You should have until about 3 PM for the ME, so you will have plenty of time for relaxing at the resort. If the weather is warm enough for swimming, you can spend your free time at the pool as well. They will let you check your carry ons with bell services, or even there are lockers at the pool you can use as well.

Yep exactly what I was thinking. Last year marathon weekend the last two days were the warmest and days that you could actually swim. The rest of the week was 40-50 degrees.

Hello Ryan. I enjoyed reading about your trip in which you ran the 10k, and congrats on your 10k. How are you feeling about the half at this point? Do you have a plan for training yet? The jump from a 10k to a half isn't nearly as bad as you think, so don't worry to much about it. I would say going from 0 miles to 3.1 is much more difficult. Looks like you have a good handle on things for this upcoming trip so far. I am going to be running my first Disney event this January as well. I can imagine the winter a brutal for you, and will make training a challenge. I guess the TM becomes your friend? As far as race day weather goes, I hope it is 40 and not 60. The warmer temps. make it harder on the runners. Good luck on planning the remainder of your trip and good luck with training.

Thanks. I'm feeling good about the half so far I plan on using the rundisney Galloway training plan. Yes the treadmill is a friend during the winter if I can't go outdoors. I'd much prefer to run outside but that isn't always an option.

Small update

We have all decided on what magicband colors we want.

I have chosen blue

My sister Jordan green

My sister Sydnee pink

My grandma Dorothy red

And finally my grandmas sister Judy orange

I know we still have a good amount of time before that had to be done but we did it anyways.

Wow, that's early! Although I'm sure it's nice to take care of it now and not have to worry about it later.

I know. My grandmas sister was in this weekend from up north and I didn't know when I would see her again before the trip so I asked what color she wanted and my sisters already knew what they wanted so I just did it all.

Hi Ryan! Following along - your plans look great so far! I will also be at WDW race weekend for Dopey, looking forward to reading about your adventures!

And I will keep my fingers crossed for your flights. DH and I are originally from WI, too, and I went to university in FL, so I remember all too well flying in and out of WI winters. Good luck!

A little update tonight.

My mother went on southwest's website to see what the flight prices were. It just so happens that the two flights we booked had gone down in price from what we booked them at. So I went ahead and called my grandma about it. She said she would call southwest to see what they could do. A little while later she called back and said that they gave her a credit for the difference in price. Good thing we checked and called! Only 144 days until we check in, 146 days until the 5k and 148 days until the Half!

Its been so long since I have updated. Only problem is there really isn't anything to updater you guys on unfortunately. Senior year got started yesterday and is off to a good start so far. Two AP classes (AP Physics 2 and AP Statistics) and some other general classes. Applying to colleges and for scholarships will start very soon. Busy time of year for me now with football, school, working, and whatever else I get myself into. I haven't been training much lately because of school and football, we do a lot of conditioning during practice. My full training plan won't get into full swing until October. Hopefully soon I can start putting together my plans for our days in Disney.

I remember senior year of high school ... you have my sympathy. That's definitely a busy time!
You've definitely got some time before you really have to worry about Disney plans (including over 2 months until FP+ day), so focus on school/football/etc now and worry about Disney when it gets closer!

Yep but the time sure is flying. Seems like I was just starting high school a year ago.
