Two Aussie first-timers in Disney! Lots of photos! NEW- FINAL CHAPTER! - Ch 20, Pg 30

I want to go to WDW next year... but I think it will really come down to when we have enough money saved :rotfl: Airfairs are going to be a big spender. Approx how much did you spend on the Disney portion of your trip. I know I am planing early but I get obsesed with things like this and plan everything down to the smallest degree. Plus it's disney and what is there not to be excited about.

Sue88... Ooh, nice to see another person who's with me on that awful Kodak ad! Hee! Thanks for your nice comments!! :cool1:

dixie lolly... Yay! I'm glad my trip report has been helpful to somebody!!

QuirkyButterfly... Hey, we're going to DisneyWorld next year too - hopefully! Probably in September. I think all up we spent around $1200 US for the Disney part of our trip. That was 7 nights at Pop Century, and 6 days Park Hopper tickets. Plus, free dining! It was actually one of the cheapest places we stayed overall. Hope that helps!

I'll have the next installment up very soon, everybody! :yay:

Hi Aussie Angel,

Great trip report can't wait to read more.

As a fellow Aussie, I'm wondering if you can tell me how u booked the DisneY portion of your trip? I'm in the process of planning myself and we've already booked Disney accom thru a travel agent, and but now with free dinning I'm told I have to book thru DisneY or AAA.

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!

I Just booked with dreamsunlimitedtravel.com they are an authorized Disney Agent,
They attached Free dining to our package so we got 7days All Star Music, 2x 7Day Park Hoppers, free dining About $1300-1400 AUD.
I'd say talk to the travel agent explain the deal for free dining they should be able to do it, although depending when your going, the values are sold out for dining, but staying at a moderate with free dining is cheaper then staying at a value and paying for dining :wizard: Otherwise just book on the phone or online with Disney directly, MY TA from Dreams Unlimited got the package for the same price as Disney's quote on their site, and they don't charge me any fees!:cloud9:

Sorry for hijacking :guilty:
BTW Aussie Angel Loving the report still really making me itch for our Aug trip!!! Keep it coming :thumbsup2:

Thanks soo much for that, I might look into the canceling that part with the TA - we've booked thru Flight Centre and booking thru Disney directly or dreamsunlimited or something.

Sorry again Aussie Angel for Hijacking!

No worries about hijacking, erinstar and bigglesworth! I'm glad you found your answers, erinstar! It's turned into an Aussie fest in here! Heee!

But yep, erinstar, it usually ends up being much cheaper if you book accommodation yourself, rather than letting your travel agent do it. It's not hard to do by yourself, either, since it's all online. So I'd definitely recommend doing that!!

And hi, dixie lolly! Wow, you're going in May! That's not far away at all! I'm very jealous!! Hope you have a fabulous time!! :cool1:

Chapter 10… EPCOT continued!

So after our strange lunch at Le Cellier, we thought we’d go for an explore of the World Showcase. I was really looking forward to seeing the World Showcase. Because I love traveling, and I love hearing about other countries and cultures. So, off we went!! :cool1:

We started at Canada of course, since that’s where we’d just eaten. In the United Kingdom, we stumbled across Tigger, and I jumped in for a photo with him. Tigger was a bit odd, actually. When we found him, he was sitting with a lady and colouring in a Piglet mask. I asked nicely if I could have a photo with him, and he nodded. So I waited. Then I waited some more. It seemed he really wanted to finish that mask. So I waited some more. :rolleyes1

Eventually he finished his mask, and hopped in a photo with me. And the mask. Except he kept walking away and going back to the table and to the other lady (who I think he knew), before DF could take a photo. I got the feeling I was in the way! Maybe he was just being ‘Tigger’, but it seemed more like he wanted to get it on with the colouring-in lady. Weird. Finally, we took the photo, with the mask in his hand. Bah! Here it is -

We had a little look around the United Kingdom area, which seemed to feature The Beatles a lot. I kind of got the feeling throughout the whole of the World Showcase that the creators said to each other, “What’s the first thing that pops into your head about the UK?” “The Beatles!” or “What’s the first thing that pops into your head about France?” “Bakeries!” Hee. I worry that if there was ever an Australian section in the World Showcase, there’d be lots of photos of Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, and people would think that’s what all Australians are like. Heeee. But let’s not go there.

Anyway, I didn’t really love the World Showcase that day. It was very hot and we were very tired, which didn’t help, but I just wasn’t very inspired to look in any of the shops! Am I very bad!? It’s sad though, because I really was looking forward to it. It just wasn’t what I imagined! Next time though, I’d like to check it out a bit more. I’d like to try some of the specialty (alcoholic!) drinks, and a funnel cake too!! :)

So we made it around to Germany, and then gave up. It was just too hot! Or, in the words of DF, "This is a bit boring. I need a rest!" So we caught a boat across the water and decided to head back to Pop for an afternoon break. Wow, that Pop bus stop is a long way away at EPCOT!!

Back at Pop, I bought some cheese popcorn, we filled up our mugs with frozen coke, and had a lovely relax in our room! I LOVE cheese popcorn, and it’s a very rare thing to find here in Australia. I was in cheese popcorn heaven at Disney World!! Yum!! popcorn::

Guess what else happened while we ate cheese popcorn and drank our frozen cokes? I got the best foot massage ever from DF! I don’t know what inspired him, because usually I beg and beg for massages and get a tiny 30 second one, but I got a 30 minute foot massage that afternoon! Fantaaaaastic!! I’d actually been having problems with the arch of my left foot since we were in San Francisco, and that massage fixed it right up! He’s the best fiancé ever!! :cloud9:

At about 6 oclock, we felt rested and ready to head back to EPCOT for the evening. We planned to have a few rides, then dinner, then IllumiNations. Yahoo!

When we arrived back at EPCOT, the first thing we did was ride Spaceship Earth. I really had no idea what to expect, but we both really enjoyed it! It was slow and relaxing and pretty cool, really!

Now, I don’t know if it was the foot massage, or the relaxing Spaceship Earth ride, but guess what we did next. Yep – Mission Space. Yes, WE did it! Both of us! AUGH!! DF finally convinced me to give it a go – he’d been saying all day that it wasn’t half as bad as I was imagining it was, and that we were at Disney World, so I should just be brave and give it a go! So… I did!! Wah!! :scared1:

There were hardly any lines at all, so when it came time to decide whether I’d do the spinning or the non-spinning version, I had about 4 seconds to decide. I was leaning toward the non-spinning, when DF grabbed my hand and said, “You’ll be fine! Come with me on the spinning ride!” So… I did! AUGH! I don’t know if it was me being a supportive partner, or if it was me just being a fool to agree!

DF and I were put into a little spaceship pod thing with two guys, who were quite nice really. I was on the end, which was probably the worst place to be, since I was squashed up against the door. As soon as I was locked in with the handle things over me, and the door closed next to me, I freaked out. I didn’t scream, and I didn’t cry, but I sat there, as stiff as a doorknob! I think the only thing I said was to DF – “I don’t think I like this!” … and the ride hadn’t even begun yet!! :scared:

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I really didn’t like it! I felt enclosed and out of control, and the spinning hurt my face! Lieutenant Dan was telling me to press my button, but I couldn’t! I just sat there and stared straight ahead without blinking, since they tell you not to close your eyes because it makes the spinning sensation worse! AUGH!!

Eventually it ended, and I thanked the heavens I was still alive. Phew! It was over! Yayyyyyy! As soon as we hopped off, DF said, “See?! That wasn’t so bad, was it?!” So I punched him. I gave him a big, hard punch in the stomach just to set him straight.

Heee. No, I didn’t really punch him, but I wanted to! Because Mission Space IS as bad as it sounds, and girls, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! :sad2:

I didn’t feel queasy or sick afterwards though – I mostly felt relieved that I’d done it and came out alive, and without spewing all over myself. Weeee! :woohoo: It wasn’t fun though, and I certainly won’t do it again!

And guess what else? When we exited Mission Space, the heavens I’d just thanked decided to open up, and it POURED rain. Now, it had rained on and off during our week, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen rain like this before! This was real Florida rain! No wonder the grass is so green! Wow! Remember, it hardly rains at all here in Australia anymore, so rain is exciting to us. Hee!

Everybody else hid inside the Mission Space gift shop area, but DF and I whipped out our trusty ponchos, and ran through the rain to the World Showcase! Weee! The park was basically empty, and it was such fun! Well, it was fun until we realised people were staring at us from doorways with looks on confusion on their faces, and our legs were absolutely drenched. Heee! So we decided to slow down a little, and head on into the Mexico pavilion.

I liked the little marketplace in Mexico – that was cute! And we rode The River of Time, which I’m sure was fun, but actually, I can’t remember anything about. Sorry!

Next up was a ride on Maelstrom! I’d heard lots of talk about this on the DIS boards, so I was keen to check it out – and it was fun! We both loved it! Here’s me in my gorgeous poncho out the front of Maelstrom… I look ridiculous!!

The rain was starting to ease after that, and our excitement started to die down. We realised we were starving, and we were in the American area, so we popped into Liberty Inn. We had cheeseburgers and hot dogs which were okay for cheeseburgers and hot dogs! I won’t post photos, cause I’m sure you all know what they look like…!

We only had about 10 minutes to wait after dinner until IllumiNations started, and there were viewing spaces everywhere! Yay! I guess the rain scared a lot of people off. We stood right outside the America area and had a great view of IllumiNations, which was lovely! I didn’t enjoy it as much as Wishes, but we both thought it was very pretty! :thumbsup2

After IllumiNations, we trudged out of the park with everybody else, and headed towards the buses. On our way out, I took this photo...

IMG_0575.jpg

We ended up waiting at the Pop bus stop line for quite a while – about 30 minutes all up. There just doesn’t seem to be as many Pop buses as others! :confused3 But eventually, we got there, after nearly falling asleep standing up on the dark Pop bus. Don’t you love it when they turn those fluorescent bus lights back on after it being pitch black for 20 minutes!? WAH! My eyes, my eyes!!

It had been a big, fun day at EPCOT! It was about 10 oclock once we got home, and we flopped on our bed(s), watched a bit of tellie, and fell fast asleep! I never knew how exhausting playing at Disney could be!! I love it! :yay:

Up next… Tackling the crowds at Animal Kingdom!!

YAY! Another installment!

I know how you felt trying to make your way around the World Showcase :scared: The last time I went, we didn't even make it over there! Our feet and the heat just wouldnt let us. Wouldnt it be great if there was a shuttle from the World Showcase to the exit! That walk back is BRUTLE!

So sorry you felt ill on Mission Space. The last time I did the non-spinning version (which was still great by the way), because the other side made me sick for about 2 hours

Your report has been alot of fun. Looking forward to even more! :goodvibes

I had the same experience as you with the buses. A few years ago I was staying at All Star Music and it seemed there were fewer buses and WAY more people at our bus stop. I stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge after that and my bus stops were very uncrowded and nice. I always have fun either way!

princess:

Rainy days at WDW are the BEST! :umbrella: The crowds just melt away and you can get so much more done!

I love reading about people having a great time at WDW and it sure seems like you two are having fun! Looking forward to more....

Kathy

I think you look adorable! And, you're right in fashion, if you notice the people behind you are dressed the same way!

I wonder why Tigger was so distracted? That's a bit strange. You'd think it'd be hard to color with such big, furry hands. ;)

Great installment and that's a really beautiful picture of Spaceship Earth in the evening.

Hee. I worry that if there was ever an Australian section in the World Showcase, there’d be lots of photos of Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, and people would think that’s what all Australians are like. Heeee. But let’s not go there.

No worries... we all think of beer :thumbsup2 Or maybe that's just me.... :confused3

Great report and Mission Space is most definitely OFF my list of rides. Well it was never on my list but my dh is making 'that looks like fun' noises about it. Now I can point to your review and say SEE?!?! SEE?!?! At any rate, he's on his own.

MORE MORE!!! I just wasted two hours of work reading your trip report, great job.

I like your tone and I like the fact that you are seeing it for the first time. Glad you enjoyed our country and WDW!

Another great trip report. When we visited EPCOT in 2004 it was our first day in Florida and we were really disappointed in it, maybe we were just grouchy with jetlag but you have inspired us to give it another go!:yay:

:thumbsup2

I was also afraid of doing mission space but I did go on the non spinning one while my DH went on the spinning. I loved it. I think It was my Fav. ride in all of disney. It was great! I did it about 2-3 times. I dont think I could do the spinning one though, after those people died I decided it was not for me, plus I am afraid of all high thrill rides:eek: :scared: anyway:rolleyes:

Maybe next time you can try the non spinning. Maybe you will like it better.

I'm still loving your trip report. You write so well! :goodvibes
My trip is getting closer, so I love reading about other trips even more now! :rotfl:

Great update! Not a big MS fan myself but I will go on the non-spinning side. I went on it when it first opened and your only option was to spin and I was sooo paranoid about vomiting that I couldn't enjoy it. :scared: I prefer the non-spin much more now.:) Love your rain poncho! It's so long that it must have helped keep your legs semi-dry! Glad to hear you nabbed a good spot for Illuminations. I really enjoy this show more when Epcot isn't crowded. Looking forward to reading more.:)

another great installment! i'm loving it so far. :)

i do have a question about MS. do you think it was the enclosed space you didn't like or the spinning? enclosed spaces don't bother me and i'm pretty good with spinning. i've never felt queasy from the teacups before or anything like that. and i love every rollercoaster i've ever ridden. but i've heard you really can't compare MS to any ride or rollercoaster. just wondering if you were bothered more by the spinning of the space issue?
