I just found this thread and haven't had a chance to read all the way through yet. I have been trying to find out more about the Twilight series as my dd11 has expressed an interest in it. Do you think it is suitable for an 11 year old or would the subject matter be too mature? Thanks for your help.

My 12 year old has read (or is currently) reading them, but I do think they're a bit dark. A lot of it depends on her maturity and what she's been exposed to. If she's read all the Harry Potter books, she'll be fine - there's certainly nothing scarier than that in them. Does she like scary books/movies? I don't, and I still enjoyed these books, but honestly I had nightmares the first night and woke up about 3 times from "vampire" dreams! :rolleyes1

There is literally no sex or anything though, and basically it's good vs. evil, not like a horror movie where it's just bad vampires trying to kill everyone. If I were you, I'd read the first one myself first and see what you think. I don't think the other two were as scary/gory as that one, so if you think that's okay, the others should be fine. But then you'll be like me and running out to buy them so you can read them first! :rotfl:

My dd16 read them and I wouldn't recommend them for anyone younger. There are many mature issues and the characters are older teens. My suggestion would be to read them yourself (they are soooo good that it won't take long!) and then decide if they are suitable for your dd-you know her best!:goodvibes

I am so ready for Breaking Dawn and I am going to have a heart attack while waiting for this film...lol

I read an article with Robert today (saw it over at Twilight Mom's) that this movie will be the first in 3...so YAY for that :D

I have to say that Robert and Kristen are almost exactly what I picture Edward and Bella to look like...in my head, so I am happy with them both and I am also glad to hear that some of these actors have read the books (Robert and Peter being two of them).

Ok, y'all, I just started the first book tonight. I was hoping to wait until our Disney trip next month, but I forgot my book at the doctor's office and this one was in my car so I grabbed it... :wave2:

(Seriously, if you're looking for something to fill the time until the movies/books come out, try Charlaine Harris's Dead Until Dark and the follow 6 books. I'm reading THESE until the 8th book comes out!! ::yes:: )

I have heard about those books. A friend on mine reads them and loves them. I may have to check them out soon.

You have no idea how hooked you are about to get...LOL
Glad you are here with us!

I need to go to the bookstore and get Eclipse.
Really bad.
It's been over a month since I've finished New Moon.

I think it really depends on the 11 year old. My DD is 11 and is currently finishing up the Harry Potter Series. Next year when she is in middle school I am sure she will ask to read the Twilight series and I will let her. They are more of a teen romance but there really is nothing more then kissing in it. Atleast I didn't think it was too much. There are also a couple scary scenes. You may want to pick it up and read it first before letting your DD read it. My SIL knows I like vampire stories and she asked me to read it before letting my niece (her DD) read it - that is how I discovered the series :) Even though it is YA - I really enjoyed the books.

Hi everyone, I've been kind of lurking on this thread, but haven't read all too closely because I don't want to be spoiled!

I just finished Twilight last week and am about halfway through New Moon right now. I've seen a couple of you guys say you don't really like the second one as much, but I'm loving it more than the first! I didn't really feel like much really happened in the first book, but this one is holding my interest much better.

I'm a huge fan of the Anne Rice books, and I can't say that Twilight is as good, but I'm still enjoying the series so far. :thumbsup2

Did you hear? Anne Rice has announced that she will write one more vampire book about Lestat:)

I hope it is as good as her others.

I love Robert and Krsiten -I think they will be wonderful in the movie. I am so excited about it and I love our Twilight Mom stalkers - they are doing a great job at getting some inside scoop:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 I think you will love the Twilight series! They are very easy to get hooked on. I have read the first book in the Charlaine Harris Southern Vampires series. I need to get the others now.

That's really cool!! The Lestat books were really the only ones I could get into. I tried reading some of her others, but they never really grabbed me.

I hope it's good!

I know I am really excited - I love the ones based on Lestat too - I think this last one will have more of a religious tone - I anxious to see what she does with the story. I love Lestat:)

I'm about halfway through with New Moon now. I am loving it! My dd has been really busy with UIL but I can't wait until I have time to talk to her about it.
