Twi..akward?

We always leave the MTV awards on in the background because it's funny how almost always the worst choice wins each category. I understand that it's all about teens but it's still amusing.

I think that the actor that plays the Wolfman character (can't think of his name) is pretty good looking and he seems fairly comfortable on stage. I won't comment on the others.

i've never actually seen a film with robert pattinson in it, but i saw "adventureland", and kristin stewart is the most dull, lifeless, couldn't-act-her-way-out-of-a-paper-bag actress i've ever seen. it's almost as if she's having a difficult time staying awake long enough to grace us with her screen presence. her eyes are always half open, and she seems to be terminally bored. what a waste of space.
Someone else mentioned he was on Harry Potter, but got killed off.

You do realize you were watching MTV? Yeah it probably should have been caught, but I think the fbomb was pretty tame compared to some of the other stuff. The humping dogs on Jim Carrey's suit. The graphics for each category. Mila and Justin grabbing each other, etc.
Why did she freak out, when Justin made an off the should remark-

His name is Taylor, sorry don't know last name. he is only 18 years old.

I will stand up (some) for YA fiction. Yes, I read it. Yes, I am 29... but sometimes I want to read something that I don't have to think about. That is just fun and silly when I need to escape from the seriousness in my life. I have read Twilight (though it was eh), but I have also read the whole Percy Jackson series. It was a fun read! Just because someone reads these books, doesn't mean they don't read other things... and maybe, just maybe, it will lead reluctant readers into trying other authors.

And really, there are some adult fiction authors that are just as bad, if not worse, then many YA authors.

As for Robert and Kristen... I enjoyed Robert in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (a series which was originally introduced as YA fiction). The Twilight movies are just not so good movies. As such, I will withhold judgment on acting abilities for a better movie. An actor/actress can only do so much with bad material... and, while I sorta enjoyed the books, the movie scripts seem even worse.

I did a blog back after seeing the first movie. One of my thoughts was that it always looked like Rob and Kristen looked like they were smelling poop. Was that them, or were they directed into that? Still, it was funny. I did love the jobs by Billy Burke as Charlie, Cam Gigandet as James, and Taylor Lautner as Jacob.

And watching MTV and being upset about an fbomb? Really? It's MTV.

Why don't ya'll just stop watching them if they bother you so much?

I liked Rob in HP, but he didn't have the same "way" about him in that role. I don't watch them live or on talk shows and I have never seen her in anything besides Twilight so I can't really speak to any of that. BUT, that awkward way they act is perfect for the roles they are playing.

He is supposed to constantly look in pain. He wants to suck the blood out of the woman he loves and he is always trying to control that. And the reason she tends to love vampires and werewolves is BECAUSE she is such an awkward teen and doesn't quite fit exactly with other teens. (she has friends but she isn't just like the other girls)

After the Twilight saga ends, I may never watch them in anything else but I do think they are good in the parts they are in. As are the other actors in the movie. Taylor Lautner is a perfect choice for the opposite love interest for Kristin--even without the vampire/werewold thing he is the exact opposite of Rob.

I'm not lumping all YA fiction into this, just a lot of the more recent stuff. I don't see how any avid reader would give their child Stephanie Meyer over Salinger, Blume, Hinton, C.S. Lewis, or any countless other authors/works. :confused3
Because those are more complicated authors. As someone who has taught literature to young adults it is much more appealing to start them with recent popular YA novels that they're interested in and then move on to the classics, it will create a much bigger interest in reading for them. I know from experience, this is how I came to love literature.

As a English Literature major, one of my pet peeves when I was in college were scholars that look down on young adult and/or popular fiction.

That doesn't mean I like Twilight. It never appealed to me. But, I found Harry Potter to be very entertaining and spoke to me on multiple levels. Certainly a little bit of the prose was awkward here and there, but the story itself was compelling. Charles Dickens? Boring (except A Christmas Carol). F. Scott Fitzgerald? Irritating. D. H. Lawrence? Oh, please just kill me. J. D. Salinger? Never finished reading Catcher in the Rye because I hated the character of Holden Caulfield so much.

I'd prefer Neil Gaiman or Douglas Adams any day of the week. Plus there are many, many children's literature books and authors that are very good. Lois Lowry, Mildred D. Taylor, Roald Dahl, Gary Paulsen, etc.

I completely agree, it also upsets me when scholars completely disregard children's books and YA as literature. If it wasn't for those books there wouldn't be scholars.

Anyone want to hug my horse?

I understand what you're saying, but I still don't think it applies to the Twilight Series. Honestly, if that was the first novel I had to read, I'd wonder why people loved reading so much, since it was so poorly written. JMO, though, and I can see where other people are coming from.

I understand, but we don't read things just because they're well written. Sometimes people want a little insane entertainment and Twilight offers that for some of us. I get that some people don't like it and that's fine, but I just can't stand when people start criticizing us fans treating us like we're illiterates because we enjoy the series.

thanks :thumbsup2 i've never seen a harry potter movie either...lol.

I agree. I love the series, I love the movies and I enjoy both Rob and Kristen in the movies...I think Rob is hot, Yes I think Kristen is socially awkward but I think she is a great actress and perfect for the role...so what? Does not make me stupid, illiterate or whatever else the twi-haters want to call us....especially when most of them have never read the entire series or saw the movies...

some people have this holier than thou attitude, and putting other people down make them feel better. GET A LIFE popcorn::

Respectfully, I've never cast such aspersions upon fans of Twilight. I have read all of the books and paid to see the films in the theatres. I have good friends who are die-hard fans and some who, like me, cannot stand the whole shebang. Being a fan does not make one illiterate or unable to appreciate better quality literature (may make your taste somewhat questionable IMO, but people have often thought I'm an odd duck for some of the things I like).

You can hug my horse too if you like.

I loved L'Engle when I was a preteen...

Lautner. 2/11/92 is his birthday, so it seems he's 19 now.

I've never read nor watched Twilight stories, but that's mainly b/c I've already "done" the vampire thing (Stoker and Rice) and then revisited the genre with Jim Butcher's take on vampires (he manages to "explain" all the different types, with there actually being 3 different sorts of vampires! the libra in me loved that everyone got to be included), and I'm just kind of OVER it.

(and I always thought they made a mistake in casting the Cedric role in HP4, because he just looks too much like Harry...it was confusing, and if I hadn't read the books I would have thought it was some sort of foreshadowing or red herring (I read lots of mystery novels)...)

thanks!! Just so you know, I wasnt talking about you or anyone on this thread, the last thread turned really ugly and one poster, basically called me an idiot because I enjoyed the books!!

Love the books but the movies weren't quite what I was hoping them to be. I never pictured Edward and Bella in my head like what Robert Pattison and Kristen Stewart look like, so I'm really glad that I read the books before the movies came out. while I don't think that Kristen is a good Bella, it doesn't seem to really matter. She fell into one of the biggest moneymakers ever! :lmao:

I DVR'd the awards so I could fast forward through the crap, which will probably be about 90% of the show.

When watching any live broadcast you have to be prepared for F-bombs or worse. My 8yo son was watching NASCAR with my husband and a member of Jimmie Johnson's crew CLEARLY dropped the F-bomb. No biggie. We just say to our son that he's still not allowed to say that word and it's not nice.

I really hate those Twilight movies, but I like Kristen Stewart as an actress. She was great in Adventureland.

That one I blame on Nascar. You can't put a crew chief live on the radio 2 seconds after his guy's engine blows up! I mean, geez! A little common sense, people!

Kristen Stewart is just is awkward. As a teenager in high school, you hear Twilight getting made fun of all the time.

However, I will say this. Robert Pattinson is actually a really good actor. He purposefully sucks in Twilight because, let's be honest, the writing is complete and utter ****. His dislike of his character translates onto the screen.

"When I read it I was convinced Stephenie was convinced she was Bella and it was like it was a book that wasn't supposed to be published. It was like reading her sexual fantasy, especially when she said it was based on a dream and it was like, 'Oh I've had this dream about this really sexy guy,' and she just writes this book about it. Like some things about Edward are so specific, I was just convinced, like, 'This woman is mad. She's completely mad and she's in love with her own fictional creation.' And sometimes you would feel uncomfortable reading this thing."
