A lot of people rent tuxedos for their cruise . Just got a JC Penny catalog and mens tuxedos are very reasonable plus free shipping over $75.00. Might be worth considering.

I know we bought DS a tux off of Ebay a few years ago for about $35. Far less than renting it for the cruise.

Yes, it is always a good idea to look around. Especially this time of year. Many companies are trying to get rid of thier overstock after the holidays.

After prom, the rental places will be selling a few too.

I have worn a tux twice in my life.
First time was on my first cruise, because tuxes were REQUIRED in the dining room on the 4 formal nights ( it was a 14 day cruise )
Secton time was when I got married.
Both times I rented.
Looking at the pictures from those occasions, I'm sure glad I rented. Tux styles, and in particular colors and cut change. Lord knows, I am the least fashionable person on earth, but when even I can tell a tux is out of style, it tells me I'm better off renting a current design.

Would you wear this?

The tuxedo in the JC Penny catalog are traditional, I think thats helpful.

No, they're not necessary; however, I still wear mine because I have it and the wife and I enjoy dressing up from time to time. More folks wear suits than tuxes on formal nights.

I own, but I don't think I'll bother with bringing it on our Disney cruise in March. I'd rather bring a couple light jackets and just add a tie for formal night. (No, no suits either)

My husband wears one on formal night but he enjoys the whole formal wear thing.

I answered "rent" for this poll, but that's strictly for cruising - I do own a tux. I prefer to rent on the cruise so I can save room in suitcases. We typically are travelling back to the US from overseas to go on the cruise, and we also visit family before or after. So carrying a tux around for a month is bothersome. Much easier to rent one on board.

I also like to dress up once in a while, and I'd look out of place in my family if I didn't, since all my girls go full formal with their dresses.

My DH enjoys getting dressed up in his tux or white dinner jacket (think of the old James Bond movies with Sean Connery) on formal night. On our last DCL cruise, he actually got a round of applause from a table of ladies in Sessions! He was thrilled!

My teenage son wants to know where he can get one of those tuxes. He thought they were great. He said he would rather wear that then the black ones. :upsidedow:upsidedow

My husband wears his military mess or dress blues, but I have seen fire fighters and policemen in their dress uniforms as well. It's a nice conversation starter, and besides, I rarely get to see my husband in his dress up digs.

Bought a Calvin Klein tux at Macy's about four years ago, with a black and white tux shirt and burgundy vest/tie -- after three wears I broke even comparing to rent. I waited until they were having a great sale and I had coupons.

The style is very traditional too, so I'm not worried about it looking dated anytime soon . . .

I've seen posts about men wearing kilts too.
