No they are not necessary. People choose them because they look great on formal night. Are tuxedos really necessary??? DH will not be thrilled ....![]()
I have worn a tux twice in my life.
First time was on my first cruise, because tuxes were REQUIRED in the dining room on the 4 formal nights ( it was a 14 day cruise )
Secton time was when I got married.
Both times I rented.
Looking at the pictures from those occasions, I'm sure glad I rented. Tux styles, and in particular colors and cut change. Lord knows, I am the least fashionable person on earth, but when even I can tell a tux is out of style, it tells me I'm better off renting a current design.
Would you wear this?

My teenage son wants to know where he can get one of those tuxes. He thought they were great. He said he would rather wear that then the black ones.![]()

My husband wears his military mess or dress blues, but I have seen fire fighters and policemen in their dress uniforms as well. It's a nice conversation starter, and besides, I rarely get to see my husband in his dress up digs.
