So...we have lunch ressies @ the Tusker House. I just read in the Unofficial Guide and it says it gets 1 (or 1 1/2) stars! I don't see anything else really rated that low.

Should we change ressies??? Our trip is only a few weeks away. Now I am starting to worry.

Help! :)

always agree with the UG on restaurants. Some I like better and others I like worse. Here are a variety of reviews from two different sites. Both have TH averaging pretty high. I find the reviews in these locations to be honest. Often things that bother some won't be an issue for me so I'll ignore them when making my decisions. BTW I wouldn't hesitate going for lunch. A bonus is if you have a later lunch you can get a sort of priority seating at an afternoon showing of Nemo.

Thanks! I have heard good reviews, but was shocked (and a little nervous) when I saw how low the stars were in UG!

I am a vegetarian, so I thought I would enjoy it!

I am going to keep the ressie.

Thanks again!

we ate there last week and it was good. a large variety, it does count as a table service though. good african food and american buffet

Wow! That is surprising to me. It is our FAVORITE buffet. The food was fantastic. :confused3

We loved Tusker House. A good variety of "standard" and some more exotic "african-style" food. This is now our alternative to the not-so-popular-in-our-group Yak and Yeti

We love Tusker House. The variety is good and the flavor of the food is incredible. You do need to be a little adventurous in what you'd like to try, but if you are I know you'll enjoy the food there.

As for the UG, I think they are overly critical of EVERYTHING. Had one once a number of years ago and decided it wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. I know a lot of people swear by it, but I'm not one of them. I find some of the free online resources to be a much better judge of things than the UG will ever be. ::MinnieMo

My parents and adult sisters had one lunch reservation there during their last trip and enjoyed it so much that they wound up eating there again another day they were in AK. (They had the deluxeDP.) My sisters are fairly picky eaters, but my parents are a bit more adventurous so they felt it offered a good variety of foods to satisfy everyone.

We have a trip planned for Oct with my parents and are looking forward to trying it.

We love the Tusker House! We did a character breakfast there and it was one of our favorites! Enjoy!:thumbsup2

Yay! I am glad to hear more positive reviews. I was looking forward to eating there for awhile now! Then I read that and thought, "Oh no!"

Thanks everyone!

If you are going to breakfast, you will love it. I don't know about lunch or dinner though. I have the 2010 UG and I was very surprised at the rating.

Lunch is fantastic there - we've been twice...but it is very ethnic - asian and indian inspired foods. The odds are the reviews are partially based on people upset that the food actually had flavor and variety. :rotfl2:

I personally would highly recommend it. We agree it is our favorite buffet, though we haven't been to Boma yet.

Well, like I stated before...I am vegetarian and I was happy to see that it looked to have a lot of vegetarian options. I am adventureous when it comes to foods without meat! :)

We love Boma and all of its unique foods, so I am assuming I will be happy hear.

I was also thinking the people rating it may not like to try "different" foods and therefore rated it low.

We are going for breakfast (just me and DD---character time), but we are also going a different day for lunch.

It's my favorite buffet in all of Disney!!!! I'm actually reluctantly giving up my ADR in July only because we want to see what all the hype is at Boma :rotfl: and I understand the offerings are fairly similar, so it was one or the other.....

I just made a dinner ADR at Tusker and gave up a Jiko ADR because I was getting nervous that DD and DH might not find anything at Jiko (they're a bit picky). The Tusker menu seems to have a nice mix of the exotic and the more plain for my picky family!

My family and I are doing the same thing in Sept.

I'm a bit late for the OP, but this is our favorite buffet in WDW. Lots of variety, hasn't felt crowded to us. We actually prefer this to Boma, and you don't have to leave the park!

Lunch salads included - rice salad, watermelon rind salad, vegetable salad and something else I can't remember!

We always have lunch here when we are in AK. We tend to go off peak (first seating or after 1:30 pm). All 4 of us can find something we like and I have to get the Bobotie each time. LOVE it!

Hope this helps some! :)

I would not rely on ratings in UG or any other guide book. You will get more information here and on allears.net, then you can make up your own mind...

WE LOVED TUSKER HOUSE! Had dinner there in 2008 and the buffet was wonderful. The menu looks near the same... All of the entree dishes were delicious... it actually reminded me more of Indian (India) food and very freshly prepared. The meats were superb. If someone doesn't like that kind of spiced food, I recall many of the spices/sauces were on the side. The bread pudding for dessert was to die for...

We didn't go again in 2009 because we went there for the character breakfast - which also has the bread pudding (and I could have made a meal out of that alone!). For lunch, we did something different and went to Yak and Yeti... and in 2010 we plan to do the same.

I hear that Boma restaurant at Animal Kingdom Lodge is also a buffet with similar type of food.

Now.... on our next trip.. we were staying at AK for extra magic hours (evening) and coming back to the resort for a later dinner.... now you have me thinking about having dinner at Tusker House instead!
