Turns out my ADR is during a MVMCP?!

So we made an ADR at CP for 7:35pm on Friday, Dec 16. Because we had outside forces dictating which day we did which park (and because they change the dang hours all the time anyway), I didn't check hours, EMH, or MVMCP schedules before booking since I had no choice in the matter anyway. Well it turns out there is a MVMCP that night. We will not be attending that. Will we need to change the ADR? Why did it let me book an ADR when the park is essentially closed to me? Shouldn't it mention that there is a hard ticket event then when you make the ADR? We are a party of eleven, so finding ADRs is tough. I know I should have checked hours first, but since they change so often, I've taken to not worrying about them till its FP+ planning time.

Yes, you will need to change the ADR. When I made a booking, I got a notice saying that (paraphrased here) the reservation was during MVMCP and that I'd need tickets to the party in order to keep the reservation. It allowed me to bypass the notice (i.e. didn't have to provide proof to make the reservation), but did warn me. From other posts here, I thought that that happened for all reservations in the time period.

Darn it. The only thing in the agreement was that it's inside the park and requires park admission. I read that as park admission, not as MVMCP admission since it didn't mention that. Oh well. Thanks! Better to know now than later.

Just so you know, if you can find another ADR for your (large) group, as long as the ADR is before 7:00 - when the party starts - you'll be able to eat there. Even a 6:55 reservation is permissible.

You might want to try Touring Plans' free ADR finder. I've had good luck with it finding ADR's for me.

When you book a reservation during a party, a message pops up informing you that the reservation time occurs during a special event and that you'll need tickets for the event. The confirmation should note that as well. Reservations after around 6:15 on party nights need party tickets.

I think that has been the case in years past, but they've adjusted the times somewhat this year. The WDW website shows that "dinner" at CP on December 16 goes from 3:15pm until 6:30pm. Dinner for the "special ticketed event" starts at 7:00pm. So it looks like they may not even have reservation times between 6:30 and 7.

I think the times also vary by restaurant. BOG dinner on that date goes to 6:15pm, and the "special ticketed event" times start at 6:20pm.

Oh, I didn't realize that they changed the policy this year. Thanks for the info!

I was shocked to get a good time for a large dinner party at either BOG or CRT (I forget which it was) during my December WDW stay...until I got the "this res is during a ticketed event and you need tickets for this event to be in the park" message before I could confirm the res. Sure enough, I checked the calendar, and I was making the res on a Friday when MVMCP was happening vs the Thursday I *thought* I was making the res for. We're not going to MVMCP, so I didn't make the res...but I definitely got a message warning me that the res time I was trying to book was during a special ticketed event.

Yeah, it's funny because I was testing things yesterday--the 7:05 time shows a message, but 7:00 didn't. 7:25 did, but the 7:35 didn't (at least when I originally booked). Oh well. Then I called since I'm going to have to book multiple ADRs to accommodate everyone and after 30 min on hold, I get told the system is down for phone ADRs. Gotta love Disney planning.

The message pops up at the end. By that time most people are on automatic and don't expect something like that to show up.

I read everything and was still caught out by it. Speaking of that I need to see if I cancelled that one. I kept it just in case, but now we will be heading to San Juan early and won't even be in FL at the time of it. No chances of us buying a party ticket then!

I noticed that too with the reservation times. But I just had a thought...does that mean it would be easier to walk up to a restaurant between 6:30-7:00 in the MK since no one would have a reservation then? Or do you think they would stop accepting walk ups until after 7:00pm?

Now there's an interesting twist I hadn't considered. I don't know the answer, of course, but I would bet they would not take walk-ups during that period, either.

So I just got a reservation via the app for 8 of us at 7:00 December 16. No messages at all about it being during the party (and from my playing around yesterday, I knew exactly what, when and where it should have shown up). Do you think they'll let us in?

People who are attending the party CAN get a reservation during that time. It's not the best use of time, but they can, so I wouldn't expect there to be availability anyway.

YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DINE WITHOUT A PARTY TICKET.

YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DINE WITHOUT A PARTY TICKET.

YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DINE WITHOUT A PARTY TICKET.

It's really not that hard to understand.

P.S.....YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DINE WITHOUT A PARTY TICKET.

P.P.S....EVERYONE IN YOUR PARTY HAS TO HAVE A PARTY TICKET TO DINE DURING THE MVMCP EVENT.

Thank you for your reply. Actually, though, for me, it is a bit tricky to understand. Everyone on this thread keeps citing things like they are policy, "no reservations at all between 6:30-7:00" or "reservations after 6:15 need a party ticket" but these policies don't seem to be anywhere on Disney's site. In playing with the app and website ADR system, sometimes you get a message, sometimes not. Nothing is consistent that I can find.

There was no hard ticket caveat on booking 7:00 on either the app or via the phone CM's system.

The phone CM (notoriously unreliable, I know, but I'm just as inclined to trust her as anyone else) said that there is no hard-ticket requirement on reservations that she can see up until the 7:05 time. According to her, they will allow you to eat and escort you out if you don't have a ticket as long as it's before then, including 7:00.

She also said that dinner on her system (and on the app, for that matter) is listed until 10:30pm, not 6:30pm, as some have stated here. It's possible we are looking in different places, but my point is that there is no consistency. And no official, consistent word on the matter.

HOWEVER, the confirmation email just came through and it DOES say that you have to have hard tickets. So I've cancelled the ADR. But again, this just reflects the lack of consistency.

So, no, it is not as easy as that.

Note: Just so the timeline is clear, I posted my question here right after finding the ADR time on the app. I then immediately called to see what they would say. Last, I got the email. In the meantime, I received the response here that I am now replying to.

For sure, lack of consistency can be confusing, especially if a phone CM is giving out incorrect information.

For what it's worth, I saw the dinner/party dinner times that I quoted on the WDW website, directly below the blue box after I entered the dining date, time, and party size. It may not be super obvious if someone's not looking for it, but it's there even before you start making a reservation.

Edited for clarity.

Ah, I see. So how does the system know that you should have access? Is it if you have your party tickets linked, or do you have to call to make a reservation during party time?
