Well, I think this is going to be the last post that I can do for a few days. The rain has started and the winds are picking up. My wireless internet is already started acting up so not sure how much longer I have. They've bumped up the time for landfall of Gustav to within the next 5 or 6 hours. We've set up the kids' beds in our room and have done everything we can to do prepare. DH and I are having a stiff drink to calm our nerves and also to help us sleep! A hurricane is pretty bad but a hurricane during the middle of the night is worse. I like to be able to be up and see what's going on outside. Right now it's so dark. Anyway, I decided to to a little video diary of the storm that I will post on youtube in the next few days - hopefully! Alrighty, pray for us. More soon:cutie:

Hi!

I just got caught up again with your PTR.

I too am slightly worried about the hurricane. I pray that we who live in the Gulf coast area will all be safe. I try to be prepared during hurricane season, having lived through the horrible Rita evacuation experience years back. So I have my water, flashlights, batteries and canned goods ready. My Tahoe has a full tank of gas at all times, just in case.

Take care, and God bless us all.

Jen

Hey Jen,

So happy to see you on my report again! am IN LOVE with your trip report! Can't wait to hear when the fam shows up!!!

My in-laws live in Katy and have about 12 staying there from Metairie and New Orleans area! Hope y'all don't get the bad stuff. Baton Rouge seems to be up for a roller coaster ride! I will try to post but I'm sure we'll have no power by this time tomorrow. Yay.

You stay safe too. Thanks again for posting!

Soooooo jealous - Really want to stay there!

Please stay safe. MEK!

Just wanted to do a quick post to say that we survived the night! They issued a Tornado Watch last night around 9:00 that remained in effect until 3:00am! I was quite worried about this because I was sure I wouldn't sleep. Thankfully, I slept quite well. Both kids were in our room with us. DD on her little fold out cot from OneStepAhead http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=6640&cmSource=Search which I bought specifically for Disney. She loved it. DS wass in the pack n' play. He did great too! I just kept thinking, "This is how it's going to be in Disney. Let's just pretend we're at Disney. Pretend that those winds and rain that I hear are noises from SAB":rotfl: I actually requested a full sized crib from BVC for DS instead of the pack n' play. I think he will sleep much better and it's complimentary! I also rented a fan for white noise (both kids use one to sleep and so do I), a CD player (we play the same CD for each and have since before they were born), and some age appropriate toys so we don't have to lug anything there. All of this is from A Baby's Best Friend. I think it's a great service!

I will also be mailing ahead diapers, coffee, water, snacks, and wine. I think that would be cheaper than Garden Grocer because their diapers look expensive! Any feedback on that???

This has been a nice distraction this morning, even though I have the weather channel blaring in the background. Things are calm right now. I am taking pics and video a long the way. I will post them as I can and while I have power! If we don't lose power, that will be a true miracle!!! More later;)

YAY! So glad you came over to my report! I am just in love with yours! The pictures are a great distraction! I can just imagine myself there now. I cannot wait to try out SAB!!! I will take lots of pics for you so you feel like you are there with me:rotfl:

BTW - did everyone notice my multi-quote response???? I FINALLY got it! Only took 15 tried!:lmao:

Glad you made it through the night safe and still have power.

Good to see Disney is a nice distracion for you.

Stay safe everyone.

And MEK - beautiful pictures!

Here are a few pics of what we're doing right now...

This is my front yard. One of those stately oaks that I'm worried about. I know the still shot doesnt' really show the wind but you can see the flag blowing. It's picked up quite a bit since I took this...

This is my deck. It is usually cluttered with toys but we cleared it off. Again, you can't really tell but those trees are really blowing...
gustav006.jpg

Thankfully, DS is not fazed. He's just chilling on the couch watching TV. What will we do when the power goes out?????

My sisters who live about 5 minutes away lost power about a half hour ago. Ours is blinking. Yay.

Hi Talissa!
I was just thinking about you and your family, and hoping you are all safe. Thanks for giving us an update. I updated my TR today, and I hope that when you're able to read it, it entertains you a little bit to take your mind off Gustav temporarily.
God Bless.

Hello everyone. Just a quick note. I am at my sister's house and will be able to check my email now.

Wow, what a day! The storm was awful. I mean, really bad. We had wind gusts up to 100mph. I have taken lots of pictures but not able to post them yet. Our neighborhood was devastated, well, the trees anyway. My trees were fine and I truly do not know how they survived. We did lose half of one of the trees in my backyard. It fell barely missing the house and the fence. My neighbor had multiple trees down, one of which crushed her car. There are power lines everywhere. At one point, all of Baton Rouge had no power. My sister has a generator that runs her whole house. THANK GOD!!! I don't know what we would be doing in a hot, dark house with two small kids. Our whole family is here are we are making the best of things. I just wanted to post something to let everyone know that we are ok. It was, by far, the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. At a few points during the storm, I grabbed both of my kids and ran to the closet. The winds rocked the house. It lasted about 4 or 5 hours. Really, for the most part, we're fine. Just a lot of debris everywhere and no power. I ran out of diapers and my brother-in-law had to hunt some down for me. We're on our last gallon of milk so not sure what we'll do when that's gone. I think we may head to Houston to be with DH's family. Alright, just wanted to give a small update. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. I'll be back soon, and hopefully then, the only thing on my mind will be our trip which is in 24 days!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for letting us know how you're doing. Thank God y'all are safe. If you decide to come to Houston, drop me a line..I'll PM you my cell phone #. Maybe we can do a post-Gustav Dismeet! ;) Stay safe and take care!

Jen

Glad to know your safe, and that your house is okay. Hopefully you can get somewhere for milk and other necessaries that you might need. :goodvibes sending your way.

Thanks so much and yes, I will call you if we're in town. That would be a blast to meet up! My neighbor has some people staying with them from Houston and she looks JUST like you! I had a fleeting thought that it may be you but then she said her name was Lolly. How funny would that have been??:rotfl:

Glad you guys are safe!

Thanks for checking in. We're making it. Things could be a lot worse! Trying to keep positive.

They opened a Walmart this morning and it looked like a stampede on the news. I will not be venturing out for a while. My kids will have to just learn to nap without milk for a while! Thanks for checking in!

Hey everyone, things are still about the same around here. I'm still at my sister's house and they actually got power last night. It really wasn't that big of a deal though because she was already running on a generator. It was nice to have streetlights again. It has been pitch black everywhere. I don't thin our neighborhood will be as lucky. The governor is saying that power will be back up anywhere from 8 days to 6 weeks! 6 weeks:scared1: That is 3 weeks AFTER we get back from our trip! If I have to pack for my perfect, dream vacation in the dark, I'm going to be quite bummed. But, I guess it will be a nice escape. Coming back to the dark won't be so fun but I am thinking positive! They will get the power on soon. Until then, I am thanking God for family and friends and my DIS buds who are there for me:love: Hopefully I will be able to report better news soon. Until then, take care:thumbsup2

6 Weeks!!! :scared1:

I hope its much sooner!

And thank you so much for the Boo!
I love it!!!

I was so worried about you. Thank God you are all ok. I got home from Mississippi Wed. night. We got our power back on late yesterday afternoon. It was also scary in Miss. I have some stories to tell. We lost some big oak trees and the roof on the upstairs dormer in Courtney's room peeled off and it rained in her room. Her carpet is wet and her wall is warped a little. I had to throw away everything in the freezer and refridgerator yesterday. Poor little Grace was walking around in just a diaper and her shoes. She had to have her shoes. Her hair was soaking wet.
God was with you for those big beautiful trees not to fall on your house. Your little boy is so cute. I love the picture of him just chillin through a hurricane. I am going to post a little Gustav report. When I do I will add the link in my signature. I am glad you are ok.

DisneyTiger:

Oh my gosh. Where are you? Are things better? or are you still cleaning up from Gustav? Now they are saying that Ike is on his way. :headache: What are you going to do? Are you going to be able to make it to DisneyWorld? :confused3 I sure hope so, but things are looking really crazy for you. :scared1:

TexasBelle

Hi Talissa! Hope everything's OK. I mean, as OK as they can get right now. If Ike comes to Houston, we have ressies at the Westin in San Antonio from Fri to Sun. What are y'all's plans? PM me when you get the chance. Hugs to your entire family!
