Turning 3 on the trip

My DD is turning 3 during our trip. I know that she counts as 2 since she will be two when our trip starts. So my understanding is we don't need to purchase a meal plan, buy park tix, etc. But I am wondering if it will be an issue if we are celebrating her turning 3, while getting a 2 yo rate. Will the CM be annoyed that she is clearly 3 at dinner, yet we are not paying for her? I want to make a big deal about her b-day, but just don't want to have it be a problem that she is officially traveling as 2. Anyone have any experience in this area? JJ

I have heard that the age at the start of the trip is the age they count the whole trip. Otherwise, I would have to buy her a meal plan for just half the trip, tix for half the trip, etc. Where are you hearing that is not the case? JJ

I also heard that if she is 2 when you and she has a birthday then she is still considered 2 for the remainder of the trip.... its somewhere on Disney's site

We went to WDW to celebrate DS's 3rd birthday in 2002. He turned 3 the day after we arrived. My DS-I-L booked the trip and questioned the CM repeatedly at reservation about the 2/3 rule. The official rule then was the child is considered the age he/she is when you check in for your vacation. So, DS was considered 2 -- didn't need ticket, didn't pay for meals, etc. However, we were questioned going into one of the parks. The CM that was going through bags asked how old he was and when I told him he had turned 3 the day before asked where his ticket was. This CM was not familiar with that policy and told us we'd have to get a ticket. DS-I-L assured us that we did not -- reservations had reassured her several times. We did not have any other problems.

Disney's very official policy (in writing everywhere) is that if your trip starts at 2, even if there is a birthday on the trip, the child is 2 for the entire trip--same with the 9/10 thing. Kids celebrate their 3rd (and 10th) birthday there all the time--very savy parents. It won't be a problem.

Our daughter turned three during our trip last year. We paid for some meals (when she was interested in eating) but did not buy a ticket. We didn't have any problems getting her in.

My DS turned 3 at Disney. We did not purchase admission but anytime he wanted a CS meal (before & after turning 3) we paid for it. You will have to purchase out of pocket or share at CS or if you want to order a child's meal off the menu at TS. For the fixed price meals he was free until we were charged for his meal the day he turned 3.

We are on the meal plan so she won't have one. Most of the time I assume she will split meals with DD who is 5 (which is what they do at home anyway as they are not big eaters). So I am not sure if the will want me to pay for buffets or other meals that we use our credits for. Maybe the night we go to 1900 Park for her b-day. Anyone know? JJ
