Turned away from Disney resort!

I also think the OP is being unreasonable, although I understand the frustration. It really does not matter 'how much' money you have spent in WDW in the past or are willing to spend, the guards are there for the sole purpose of permitting or denying entrance based on what they are told, not the '$$$ status' of the person asking to gain entrance. It was a major holiday, I think it is reasonable to assume that they had reason to allow a limited amount of cars into the lot.
I think they should have let you in with a limited amount of time parking pass.
If the guards are told to only allow entrance to people with PS's and WL resort guests, it is there job to follow those instructions. If I were a guest staying there, I would be happy to know they are controlling the parking lot capacity in this way.

I am sure the OP would not have been very pleased if they went back to the AKL and found that there were no parking spots available because guests of the WL (or any other resort) were taking up the available spaces to shop.

In my humble opinion, you really don't have a complaint. I feel that no matter what you are paying, if you are not staying at that resort, the guests of that resort come first. Also, you should have more patience when it comes to security issues because of the environment we are living in.

I love going to other resorts, but if I was not allowed in, I would totally understand. After all, I am not paying to stay at that resort and if I was and couldn't get parking I would be upset and I'm sure you would be too.

I love going to resorts to look around and shop. Things are different now and some things that we used to do are no longer allowed. The guard was just following his work orders. Whether he didn't let you in because of parking, the place being over crowded or whatever, I can see it being frustrating. But, rules are rules and he was just following them.

We were at the Wilderness Lodge when they were doing this over the 4th. We took a bus over to eat there (staying at the Dolphin). We asked the front desk what was going on and they said there were so many visitors that day that their registered guests couldn't find parking places! Also, the Magic Kingdom reached capacity and people were being turned away and they were trying to park at the Magic Kingdom resorts instead. If I had been a paying guest at the Wilderness Lodge I would not have been one bit happy to NOT find a parking place for my car! They did the right thing for their registered guests in my opinion.

You know what it seems is going on here (and what happens a lot of times on these boards when someone posts that they were turned away from doing something when they felt they had a legitimate reason??

It seems like we are trying to live in an ideal world. Yes, the OP only wanted to buy a magnet. So, a lot of people think, well, the guard was unreasonable, and should have let them in to buy a magnet (given a pass).

In an ideal world, I agree. The guard should have let them in. In an ideal world nobody would lie, nobody would cut in line, nobody would want something for free, and everything would be great.

The problem is, we DON'T live in an ideal world. We live in a world where people try to get as much as they can as fast as they can. When they do that legitimately, it creates a great capitalistic society. However, a lot of people do not do that legitimately.

There is no way that the guard could have known that the OP was only going in for a magnet. Perhaps the OP (I'm not accusing you-- this is hypothetical) had not gotten in to the MK, and wanted to get over there. OP can't say they have PS's becuase they don't. Next best thing? "Oh, I just have to run in really quick and buy something." The guard probably heard the same thing already multiple times.

I think everyone here would agree that there are tons of people who would do that (and probably some on these boards!!!) If you don't, then look around sometime!

The guard was NOT out of line and neither have any posts that I've read...

As has been said, the AKL pass doesn't guarantee parking at other resorts specifically and it seems obvious that this was a security/guest relations measure due to the busy holiday. Sure exceptions could be made but on a long, busy holiday where is the line drawn?

I should note that we eat at all the Resorts frequently and do park at them and WL and AKL are the ONLY resorts where our Artist Point (and Boma) reservations were actually checked before we were allowed in. It was inconvenient but as a guest of a particular resort I do wish they'd keep the 'riff-raff' out a little more often!
pirate:

BTW, the 'riff-raff' comment was tounge in cheek as I'm referring to EVERYONE who isn't staying at a particular resort.:bounce:

I think it's wonderful to see that the CMs are doing their job and putting the actual guests of the resort FIRST.

I wish they did this all the time at the monorail resorts. SO many times when I stayed at the CR I couldn't find a spot for my car.

There are SO many threads encouraging others to park at a monorail resort to then go over to MK it's upsetting so this post makes me happy!::yes::

The guard was only doing what they were told to do.
The WL has a terrible parking situation anyway. We very seldom find a parking spot that we dont have toi walk a mile,LOL.I hope you are able to get your magnet from the WL.

Uh....since there were two of you why didn't one get out, go buy the magnet, and the other drive around the block?

Common sense sure does make life a lot easier.

I read somewhere that incidents of road rage, anger, customer complaints, are rooted in a person's exaggerated sense of self importance.

Its worth thinking about.

I don't get the logic of what many of the posters are talking about. Okay, I've only been to WDW 8 times but isn't one of the perks of staying onsite the transportation systems. Why would you have to worry about where to park your car if you're using the transportation systems? When I stay on site, I rent a car, park it at check-in and ONLY move it when I go to Universal or am checking out. I don't get it. I know its easier to get to the other hotels by car.....so that's what we're talking about. Someone staying at one resort and going to another for whatever reason. That should be the only reason to move your car....so....anyone who can't find a spot at THEIR resort is because they moved THEIR CAR to go to SOMEONE ELSE's resort. So anyone who can't find a spot just did the same thing to someone else...so what's the problem? If EVERYONE just used the trans system we wouldn't have these problems!!:scratchin :scratchin :scratchin

When we couldn't find a spot at the CR where we were staying, it was because we ran to Walmart for underwear and another time was to eat offsite. We also enjoy driving to DTD rather than take the bus.

I take it you have never been to Wilderness Lodge, Or possibly evern to WDW. That comment makes the Resort seem like a 7-11. I also think your next comment was a bit rude. While I think she shouldn't have been upset. I don't think you should have insulted her like that either.

We have every right to disagree here on the DIS but we don't have the right to be rude or insulting.

Lets be careful here, this thread is getting a bit personal, please watch what you are posting! Thanks!

Seems like a pretty small thing to get worked up about. Sorry - no sympathy here.

There are plenty of people staying on site that would rather use their car than deal with Disney transportation. Some people don't want to deal with folding strollers on the bus. Some don't want to run the risk of standing with young kids on a crowded bus. There may be those that are confined to a wheelchair that would rather drive than deal with the bus.

Still others hate to wait. They want to be able to come and go when they want and not have to work within the schedules of Disney transportation. No matter what the reason for moving ones car, if someone is a paying guest at a resort, they should be able to find parking at all times.

I love resort-hopping when I'm at WDW but I think July 4th would be an understandable exception to WDW's liberal policy of allowing parking to non-guests.

I just learned something. We were at MK on the 4th. We are staying at Saratoga Springs. One of our plans to cut down on transporation time at the end of the night included parking at WL and taking the boat to and from MK. We thought it would be faster than other options. Well we didn't do anyway. We took the bus from SSR since only 3 buildings were open and buses were almost empty there. Tthe 4th is always the first or second busiest day of the year at MK, but I don't think this 4th was as busy as some years. But still at any moment Disney won't be able to tell every location the people status at MK I can understand that many may have had our same thoughts. We won't try that one again!

To the OP, I'm going down in 3 weeks. If you would like, PM me and I'll grab you a magnet and mail it to you. Just trying to spread that ole pixie dust around!!

And when many many many people try to do this, it causes a big problem for resort guests. Which is exactly why the OP was turned around at the gate. (robmary - not picking on you at all, it does seem like a good idea if you don't know the rules, and I don't think that everyone who does it, or attempts to do it is trying to break the rules on purpose.)

I think the OP is being unreasonable, with the money comment. If you were turned away at your own parking lot, that would be one thing. I'm sorry it threw a kink in your plans (I love visiting the resorts), but I applaud Disney security for cracking down on this sort of thing and taking care of resort guests at their current resort first....especially on such a busy day.
