Turn the Bus Around and Take Us Back to Disney! *COMPLETED*

Having said our goodbyes to the way-awesome World Showcase we made our way back towards the front of the park, searching for a good viewing spot for Illuminations. We were all pretty pooped, so the idea of just sitting and waiting for the show was sounding pretty appealing. As we were walking along, out the Mexico side, we started to get near the Test Track area we found a beautiful, perfect spot along the lagoon, and even confirmed with a nearby CM that it was a fantastic spot to view the show. So we claimed our spot and set up camp.

Thats when we realized how close we were to Test Track, one of the rides we hoped to experience. Luckily, PawPaw was more than happy to hang with the girls while the rest of us adults ran over to give it a whirl real quick.

So we made our way over and soon we were designing our cars! I didnt even know you did that!! Haha, but Chris and I had fun just trying to make the most bizarre looking vehicle possible!

Once it was nearly time to board our vehicle I realized something that still bothers me, to this day&.Olivia was tall enough to ride! :( Id left her back with PawPaw, not even thinking that she was tall enough!! This bummed me out big time because it was the perfect ride for her, her favorite thing is going REAL FAST! So I pouted and I STILL feel bad that I left her. Sadly, there was no time before the show to take her&so it is on the list for next time. My heartache shall remain over this sad event until we return!

But aside from that&.FUNNNNN! LOVED Test Track! It was very entertaining and the race around the track was super-duper fast and fun! :drive:

And Chris enjoyed looking at all the cars and car junk after the ride too.

After our whirl we ran back to our spot and found that many others were now crowding around too, so glad we claimed our little area when we did!

Then Chris made an awesome discovery& an ice cream stand!! We finally got to sample the ever-popular Mickey Bar!!

I know its just a regular ice cream bar, but something about it being a Mickey Bar just makes it taste so much better!!! Kinda like how free meals always taste better&lol! We all had a try! ;)

Then shortly after, it was finally time for Illuminations!

Annnnnnd, apparently it was also time for RAIN! Booo!

Luckily, the show did go on, though I did have to whip out my umbrella for a small portion. But it was still enjoyable. Maddie passed out, but Olivia watched and relaxed. She even relaxed enough to take off her shoes, so I snapped this pic to commemorate the damage done by the previous days glass slippers!

I tell ya, my girl is a TROOPER! She never complained one time about her feet, or being tired, or anything! She was happy as a clam the ENTIRE trip, and I couldnt be more thankful for her.

So anyway we happily enjoyed the show.

It was awesome, but I did find the graphics on the big world to be kinda hard to see, they definitely were not very sharp&seems like they should have the technology to update that now? The fireworks were all awesome, but I think compared to Fantasmic and Wishes, this show just wasnt as awe-inspiring. But it was still cool, and I will no doubt, watch it over and over again in future trips!

Finally, the day was done and we, along with a boat-load of other people, slowly made our way to the park exits. Luckily, on the way out we spotted a PP Photog! So we stopped for a ball picture!

Not the best, due to all the masses of people leaving around us, but at least I got a shot!! And we all look pretty frumpy after the long day and rain, but again, at least I got a photo! Next trip, we stop there first NO MATTER WHAT!!!

Surprisingly, we didnt have to wait to long for the bus at all. It was pretty full, but our resort didnt take us long to get there, so we were all happily in bed not too long after. I did my nightly updates and soon we were all fast asleep.

Overall Day Rating 7/10

This was probably the one day the whole trip that I wished I could have a do-over of. I really hated that Chris had to leave us, we had the dreaded Disney meltdown, I didnt care for lunch, I forgot Olivia could ride TT, I got sick on Soarin, we didnt get to see a whole section of Epcot, and we were very rushed through World Showcase. Still, we were in Disney and did have an amazing time. Just so many things I feel I missed or didnt get to appreciate. I will DEFINITELY be spending 2 days here next trip. I have NO CLUE whatsoever how people say this is a one day park. Those people are nuts and must not realize how brilliant this place is. SO much to see and do here.

Things we did:
Nemo
Figment
Captain EO
All 11 WS Pavilions
Mulan M&G
Test Track
Illuminations

Dining Ratings:

Lotus Blossom Café: 4/10
Not my cup of tea at all, and also all outdoor seating so I was hot and grumpy.

Beirgarten: 10/10
Awesome food, entertainment and BEER (Or so Im told!)

Coming Up Next&the One with the BEST DAY EVER or my birthday, as some would say!!!

Hi! I'm so far behind, but before I go back and read everything I have a question :) I plan on getting the carriage pearl cages for my sister and I when we go to pick a pearl. How much is it to pick the pearl with our own cages? I can't find prices anywhere lol.

It's only about $14 per oyster you pick! Very reasonable! The cost lies in the jewelry, so bringing your own is smart!! :)

I know you feel bad about Olivia not riding Test Track, but she now has something totally awesome to look forward to on the next trip! I am glad the rain didn't ruin illunations for you. It is my DH's favorite fireworks show in WDW, its pretty great.

I love EPCOT too! I think you really need at least a day and half or two days. There is soooo much to see and do in WS you can do a whole day there alone. Then there is tons of stuff to do in Future World.

I always come home from my trips with regrets or things I wish I would have done differently But then I always think I am glad there are things I wished I would have done, that way I have a reason to go back!

so much to comment on! this was a great update!

don't feel bad about Olivia not getting on test track. she probably had a great time hanging out and sometimes it's nice to have some mom and dad time, even if it is just a few minutes. plus, like Jackie said--something to look forward to next time!

i love the picture of you sitting by the stroller at illuminations with the girls....mostly because you can see maddie's little baby feet sticking out of the stroller! who can resist those cute little feet?!? ;)

Olivia's poor feet! what a trooper to just slap on some bandaids and get on with the show! she's one tough girl! (p.s. we took those same bandaids with us! :lmao: great minds!)

we tried to make our car crazy too at test track. does anyone try to make a car that would really work? i had to laugh when i read that your DH liked all the "car junk" on the way out. my feelings too!

yum, mickey ice cream bars! everything mickey shaped just tastes better!

i like your ball picture with the blurry people walking by--i think it's a neat effect!

love this update!

You're totally right, and now that I know I'm not a fan of Soarin', Test Track will be the first ride we go to at rope drop next time!

You really could spend a whole day just in WS!!! I didn't see ANY shows in WS, or anything and I spent nearly the whole day there!!

Teehee, I love those little feetsies sticking out too!! And lol on the band aids! I got my hands on everything Disney I could for this trip! I agree about mikey shaped food! Like the waffles, which I normally don't even care for waffles...but Mickey ones- YUM!

Yea the ppl walking by look ghostly, like partially invisible, it is kinda neat!

I am really loving all of your matching family shirts!! Subtle enough for the adults, yet still gives the Disney magic!! Would you mind sharing where you bought them or how you made them??? You inspired me to want to do it for our upcoming trip!! BTW I noticed you are from Boerne?? Howdy neighbor! We are stationed at Lackland AFB!

[SIDENOTE: ALL MY NOTES ARE GONE!!! I had saved in my phone, detailed notes of each day at the parks to help me remember what we did, and this week I found that ALL my saved notes were deleted or gone somehow&I suspect my children are somehow involved, but alas, I have no way to retrieve the missing notes, so I will have to go by pictures and memories. Luckily, only 2 park days left to recall. Unluckily, our last day was chocked full of fun and I am certain to forget some awesome things because I didnt take too many photos!! However, my Universal day is FULL of photos, I suppose from having no kiddos with me! Sigh&.]

Alright, now onto&.. THE BEST DAY. EVER.

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Tee-hee&actually this wasnt the best day of my trip, at all. I was without most my family this day, but, I like calling it that because this was my REAL birthday, and I referenced the day as The Best Day Ever in all my planning and agendas&lol! This was the one day of my trip I would be spending outside of Disney! So those with no interest whatsoever in coming to the Dark Side with me for one day, please skip&but really you shouldnt because Universal was tons-o-fun in its own ways, and you should experience said fun with me!

Onto&THE BEST DAY EVER, which actually started out pretty crummy to tell you the truth. Everything was going great, we woke up early, got ready, dropped the kiddos with the grandparents and were out in front of AoA with a few minutes to spare to wait for our shuttle to whisk us away to Universal for the day. We actually were sitting on the shuttle, waiting for one other family to board when a certain key fact popped into my head. I forgot my credit card.

Dun, dun, dunnnnnnnnnnn&&

I didnt really NEED my credit card, but, I did book the tickets using it, and I remembered reading that you had to have that same card with you to pick-up your tickets. I FREAKED OUT! :scared1: Like seriously. Bus driver man said he could not wait for me to run back to my room to get it, so we reluctantly got off the bus. I was distraught. The news got worse and worse from there. I quickly called the company as our shuttle drove off without us and we made our way back to our room. They told me that another shuttle wouldnt be available to come to get us until around 10am. This would NOT work, the parks opened at 10!! I needed to be there BEFORE 10!!! So I sighed and broke the bad news to Chris. He was not very happy with me to say the least.

He begrudgingly agreed to just paying out of pocket to take a cab to get there on time. I spent that whole cab ride crying and loathing myself for messing up so badly. During the drive my mom called to wish me a happy birthday and I sadly relayed the whole sad and sordid tale to her. She tried her best to perk me back up, but the fact was I was just so ticked at myself, nothing would work.

We finally arrived at the CityWalk about 15-20 minutes later and paid our $40 can fare. Boo. Once we made it through CityWalk and retrieved our tickets from the will call kiosk Chris finally came around and I was able to make peace with the fact that the situation could have happened to anyone. We were here now and we fully intended to turn the day around. So we got in line over at Islands of Adventure first, almost an hour before park opening. I was happy to see the shuttle family from our resort actually in line BEHIND us, we ended up beating them! Woo!

After the longest hour EVER they finally started letting us into the park. I had, of course, wore my Disney birthday pin, even though we werent at Disney, because I wanted EVERYONE to know it was, in fact, my birthday, and a nice employee noticed and sent me over to a station to get a Universal birthday button too!! Woo!! My frown was turning upside down!! :)

Once we got that puppy we were off! The awesome thing about it being just the hubs and I for the day was that we were FAST!!! We brought nothing but our phones and pocket money (and that pesky credit card) so we had nothing to haul around, and we had a plan! Get in, get out!

Everyone tends to go right at theme parks, so we started with LEFT! First up, the awesomely cool Hulk coaster!!

I didnt get to ride this last time I was here, so it was all new to me. It ended up being us and one other couple on the front row of the ride, first ones of the day, and NO ONE else on our train!! Just the four of us! It was the PERFECT start to the day because that ride was FAST and FUN! It had an unexpected jolt that I didnt know about and it got my adrenaline pumping, let me tell ya!!! Especially after all the tame Disney rides all week!!

Next up, Spiderman!

This ride is COOL! Some say its the best ride at Universal, and I can see why. Again, my first time riding this one.

Apparently Universal has a formula to rides. Much like Disney is the creator if the dark ride, Universal is the creator of the 3D, crazy effects in a car ride! Several of their rides were basically some form of you sitting in a ride vehicle that moves through dark rooms, surrounded by 3d animation that makes it look like you are immersed in that world. They also have really awesome effects like water shooting at you, fire that was REALLY HOT, and things like characters jumping ON your ride vehicle! It was awesome!! Spiderman was one of these rides! Very cool!

Chris loved the whole Marvel Superhero area, but it was so early that nothing was really going on so we just made our way past it.

Next you come to a Comic Strip land, again, it almost seemed closed because NO ONE was here but the two of us!! The main rides here are a flume/log ride and a giant tube ride, but we were not in the mood to get wet at all, so we skipped on by. We did grab a couple of photos, the themes are really well done at IOA too, not Disney good, but still good.

The next land you come to is the Jurassic Park area!

We did ride the Jurassic Park ride, even though its a water ride, because its a pretty cool ride and I wanted Chris to try it. It was soooo cool because the guy working in the ride booth yelled out Happy Birthday to me over the speakers even though I couldnt even see him!

We were the only ones on our raft, and we did get wet, but not soaked. So all good in my book!

After Jurassic Park you come to the reason we were here&

Up next, The One with Harry Potter!!!

Howdy neighbor!!! :hyper:

Glad you liked the shirts!!! I made all of them, well the matching ones! They were all crazy easy and I even made tutorials on how to do it that you can find on my Pre-Trip Report HERE!!!!!!!!!

Hope that helps!!! Enjoy!! pixiedust: :thumbsup2

We were finally here!!!

HOGSMEAD!!!!!!!

Also known as Harry Potter World to you non-book lovers&. :rotfl2:

I cant tell you how cool this is for me. My love for HP runs as deep as my love for Disney. If Disney did HP thats the only way it could have been better. The books are basically the best thing in the world and the films are all outstanding. This area of the park is like walking into the film. Seriously, this was done to Disney standards. Its THAT good.

First up, The Forbidden Journey!

This, for those who dont know is the main HP ride. You go into the castle and get to tour it in the queue and then you go on one of those awesome 3D adventures, much like Spiderman, but this time your ride vehicle is more of an arm that flies that youre attached to&.way cool. Chris agreed, coolest ride ever.

While you walk through you get to see all the iconic places from the film!!

Like the greenhouse, and the mandrakes!!

The talking portraits line the walls&

Dumbledores office&

You also get to here and SEE Harry, Ron and Hermione having a convo that is prepping you for your ride, during which Ron accidently makes it SNOW on you!! So cool, but doesnt photograph well& hence no pics! :faint:

And finally right before you ride you see the infamous sorting hat!!

We spent some time in Hogsmead just checking out the gift shops after that. I had some friends addresses and I wanted to send them mail from the Owlery, with the official Owl Post stamp, so we did that real quick, I snapped this photo of the cashier in the bookstore.

Then we walked over to use the moaning Myrtle bathrooms. Coolnesssssss! You can hear MM talking to you in them! These, for you Disney folk, are kinda the equivalent of the Tangled bathrooms! I dont think I really took a photo though& but I did get some random ones!

We also checked out Honey Dukes and Zonkos. These are two store fronts, but actually the store inside is connected. So many fun things in there&I wanted to buy SOMETHING, anything!! But I didnt want to carry anything, so I refrained!!

Whoa pictures!! Better cut off here and pick up with, the one with the Butterbeer!

Then we went into the Three Broomsticks for a rest.

We really werent hungry yet, wed only been in the parks maybe an hour, so we skipped a meal and just got a little treat and a Butterbeer for Chris.

I dont really do Butterbeer, too sweet, but I did pose with it!!!

After our snack we made our way over to the other ride, The Dragon Challenge!

This one was fun, because there some really iconic props here. The roller coaster is really just meh a regular coaster, but still mildly fun.

Heres Mr. Weasleys car that Ron and Harry crashed into the Whomping Willow!

And, of course, when you enter you get to see the Goblet of Fire!

Then theres the Tri-Wizard Cup!

After our ride we left Hogsmead, but not before posing with the Hogwarts Express Train Conductor!

Toot! Toot! Well see you next time, Hogsmead! :hippie:

Up next, the One With the Cheeseburger in Paradise!

After leaving my beloved HP area, we kept on trucking around and came up the whole Ancient Ruins area&really we did nothing here but stop briefly and admire it! There are no real rides here, just some sort of walk through adventure thing, that Id heard is okay to skip, and we wanted to get to more RIDES!!

Next up is the final area of IOA, Suess Landing!!

VERY cutely themed! I think my kiddos would have LOVED this! Tons of rides here too! Including a very cool caro-suess-ical!! We decided to try one ride, the main Dr. Suess ride&I forget the official name.

Basically this ride SUCKED! It was so boring!! You just drove around looking at things and they werent even that cool. A little bummed there, I had high hoped, seems like you could go crazy with a Suess theme&but oh well. Move on& :moped:

Before long, less than two hours from park opening, we were leaving IOA!!!

We impressed ourselves with that one! We waited in NO LINES at all here, aside from in the HP area, and even those were short. So BRAVO to us! :hyper:

I already knew ahead of time that I really wanted to eat at Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville for my birthday, so we figured wed go now, because we didnt think wed make it through another theme park without food. So on we went. It was only around 11:45 and we were basically the ONLY people in the place!

But the service was great, as was the atmosphere!

I treated myself to an awesome frozen concoction in honor of my 29 years&I believe it was called Havanas Bananas and it was YUMMY!

For lunch we feasted on a Cheeseburger in Paradise (named after the song, which I LOVE) for me, and Chris got the Club Sandwich, which was quite impressive!!

Both were fantastic, and during our meal the little volcano show went on in the restaurant where the volcano erupts and fills the giant margarita pitcher, so that was fun to see! This would be a fun place at night!! (Actually it IS a fun place at night&we went here in Vegas just a couple weeks ago and had a BLAST!! Try the Cheese Curds&oh my yum. Also, they will be putting one in at the Riverwalk here in San Antonio soon so I am SO excited!!)

After our lunch we made our way over to Universal Studios, stopping to take this picture of the gorgeous lake.

I think it was only about 1 oclock and we were already in line to enter US!! Go us!!

Up next, the one where I get sick!

Alright, so upon entering Universal Studios it became apparent that our luck had just run out&it was jam packed!! We quickly realized there was no way we would be riding the Despicible Me ride, it had just recently opened (as had Transformers) and the line was like 2 hours long the ENTIRE day! On top of that, no single rider line, so nope- youre out minions!!

Also, Rip Ride Rockit coaster was closed for the day, so poo for that!

Chris snapped this pic of some of the street area in Universal..

But finally we happened upon a ride we COULD do, The Mummy! The regular line was pretty long so we jumped in the single rider line and basically walked onto the ride, BONUS, we still got to sit together! Guess our luck was still lingering after all, huh? And actually, that luck stayed pretty well, we rode single rider a lot here and always ended up together anyway, now you know! :thumbsup2

This ride is sooooooo cool! Its an indoor dark roller coaster with some amazing special effects! At one point your train stops in a room and the ENTIRE ceiling catches on FIRE!! Like, I was blown away people. I have no idea how thats safe, but it must be and it was COOL! Actually it was very, very hot, I felt like I was baking, but it was still COOL!

After the awesome Mummy Ride we found our way to the area that really made us buy the park hopper in the first place, The Simpsons World!!!!

The hubs and I have always watched that show, we own all the dvds that are out, and naturally the kiddos have grown fond of it through our watching it, so we were excited to see Springfield!!

First up, The Simpsons Ride!

Okay, well the line was long here, no single rider either, but we couldnt very well skip it because, as I mentioned, this is the reason we ultimately decided to spend $150 more to buy the 2-park ticket, so we just hopped in line and dealt with it. This was by far the longest wait we had the whole trip, almost an hour.

The inside of the line area was pretty neat though, and they always had simpsons episodes playing!

When we finally made it to the ride I was a little bummed to realize this was a straight up 3d simulator&you get in a small box and it moves accordingly with the show you watch&.barf! Like seriously, I shut my eyes and prayed to the theme-park gods above not to loose my cool, or my lunch, because I could feel it creepin up&not good.

When my personal hell finally ended I didnt feel all too hot, but it quickly faded. I knew that Men in Black wasnt a crazy 3d ride so we hopped over there& this ones your basic ride around and shoot things ride&so we did that and then walked back to the Simpsons area to explore a bit&

We checked out Moes Bar, and Chris had a Duff Beer!

That place was done so well, all the little details were there!

We had some fun in the gift shops&

For any other die-hard Simpsons fans&they were full in stock of Bort name tags!

Then we checked out the Kwik-E-Mart, the town founder, Comic Book shop, and even Bumblebee Man had a taco stand, oh and you cant forget Chief Wiggum and the Lard-Lad donuts!

Coming up next, the one with the snake!

Once we had our fill of Springfield we left that area and happened upon some awesome real-life movie props! The car and train from the Back to the Future movies!!! Too cool, again, we are big fans, so we stopped to take a photo!

Then I decided I was ready to try something sweet, so I opted for some Dippin Dots, since they dont really have any cool signature snacks like Disney does&

And then we found a neat treat&a Sponge Bob store! So cool! But a little odd because there is no SB ride.. but whatevs& it was fun inside!

And I got to meet Squidward, no line!

Then as we were making our way to the ET ride we crossed paths with this dude!

Eeeep!

Next up, was ET the ride! Haha, this was kind of amusing, clearly this rides been here since like the opening or something, but it was sweet and nostalgic I suppose. I wish theyd still have had Jaws open too though& oh well&

Finally we had made it back around towards the front, there wasnt much else to do so I agreed to try the Transformers ride, even though it was one of those crazy 3D ones&but it was brand new and Chris wanted to do it, so on we went through the single rider&. We probably had about a 15-20 min wait because it had just opened, but not too bad.

Luckily, I didnt get to sicky, and I felt good enough once we were done to go back to The Mummy!

We rode that puppy one more time, and then we decided we were hot and ready to go back to our Disney bubble. It was my birthday, after all, and I wanted to see my kiddos!!

So we called for our shuttle pick up and were informed itd be about an hour and a half, so we took our time leaving, stopping for photos at the Universal World thingy&

And then checking out some goodies in the shops on the CityWalk&

FYI&the CityWalk is pretty darn cool! Would be really fun for a date night! There was live music and random performers around. Lots of good restaurants and cool shopping. Also a really fun looking mini-golf course!! So worth your time if you decide to venture out. But for us, I was just tired, so after some browsing we made our way to the shuttle pick up and just rested for nearly an hour until our shuttle showed up to whisk us back to our Disney World!

Up next, The One at POP!

Once we arrived back at AoA, we decided to just head to our room and shower and get a little refreshed before checking on the kiddos and the rest of the fam. This was the one time the whole trip that I actually did my hair!! By did I mean had time to blow dry it! LoL!!!

Once we were dressed we hatched our plan to grab the kids and walk across the way to check out the Pop Century Resort. Wed been staring at it all week and thought itd be fun to go check out, and we figured we could just eat dinner over at their food court instead of ours tonight.

So we met up with the rest of the group and they were all getting ready to head off to Downtown Disney, so we grabbed Maddie and went our separate ways! (Liv wanted to go with them)

Pop was pretty neat!

We were pretty hungry though, having ate so early in the day, so we went straight to the food first!

Maddie had a mac n cheese plate&which I guess was alright, she dug right in as you can see&

I had some peperoni pizza breads&not good, blah in fact. Side ceasar salad was okay though.

Chris had some burger&he said was just ok, nothing great.

We were all pretty bummed with our meals and wished we had ate over at AoA and their FANTASTIC food court, but oh well, live and learn. But we did try some signature desserts at Pop!

I had the tye-dye cheesecake&.

It was ok, nothing that great, I dont like highly colored foods, because I feel as if I can just taste all the chemicals it takes to get the food so brightly colored, but I was trying to force it down. Really it was just a so-so piece of cheesecake for me.

Chris had the infamous King Cupcake&which if you dont know is named after Elvis and features a chocolate cupcake, with banana filling, peanut butter icing, chocolate drizzle and candied bacon! It was good but VERY sweet and rich!!

After that we just wondered around Pop taking photos of all the neat things they had&

Finally we were pooped so we made our way back towards AoA&

And soon we were off to bed. The grandparents dropped Olivia off shortly after and we all went to sleep feeling a little bittersweet I think, knowing that tomorrow was our last day at the parks&

Up next, the one with the kids day!

So just in case anyone was curious, I thought I would relay what the kids and grandparents ended up doing during our Universal day! This was their “rest” day, and by rest I mean they at least didn’t walk 10+ miles…but of course there will be no real rest while at Disney with kids! They staid pretty busy! They had meals at AoA, and they finally got to check out the Big Blue Pool!!

And they took some more pics around the resort!

And then as I mentioned, they went to DTD that evening with Olivia! They got to check out the Lego store again!

Just in case you wanted to know!!

P.S. No official recap for today, because who really cares about ratings all that much when you’re not at Disney!?!

Though I will say I would rate Pop’s food court like a 3/10! Blahhh.

Coming up, the one with a celebrity chef!
