Turkey legs - yummy treat or nasty abomination?

  • Turkey legs - ooooh, turkey legs (Homer voice). Yummy!

  • Turkey legs - eewwwwww. Nastiest stuff this side of a Fear Factor food-eating contest

  • I have no sense of taste and/or smell, so I have no opinion either way

"Handsomely packaged and delicious Hickory-Smoked Drumsticks, Wings and Drumettes. The popular Turkey Drumsticks are a favorite at Disney theme parks throughout the world!"

Also, some Wal*Marts have Pilgrim's Pride smoked turkey legs (prepared hot) in their deli section. They're very good!

WHAT!!!!!!! Omg thanks for the link LOL.

It is the smoking that makes them pink and taste like ham. Am I the only one who eats them with a plate fork and knife? They are too juicy to carry!!! Plus with the seagulls trying to swoop in on them I get one and have to sit and eat it. I usually share with hubby but as you see from my tag, I ate one myself!!!!

Universal has them as well, and they also taste like ham.
YAY I will give my report on the Universal leg when I get back in May. I am sure they are not as yumnmy as WDW's :rotfl:

I'd like to know, myself, where exactly these things come from.

All I can say is those turkeys are either the size of small Great Danes, or they're regular size and don't walk well!!! I have no idea where they get such HUGE legs!!! Must be the steroids! ;) ;)

I always thought they smelled good, too. I eventually thought that I was doing a disservice to myself by not trying them, so I buckled and tried one...

it was gross. What is even more gross is watching people who touch handrails and ride vehicles all day picking those things clean with their fingers.

Does that make me obsessive compulsive?
Yeah, that thought has crossed my mind, too. Skeeves me out! :crazy2:

WDW needs a TOFURKY leg cart for you ;)
That would be SOOOOO awesome! And I'm also secretly wishing for tofu pups at Casey's! That would be wonderful! :thumbsup2

THis is what I was thinking. What's the big deal? Do people not serve the turkey legs at Thanksgiving?

I had always wondered about the smokey taste of WDW's turkey legs.......wasn't quite sure I would like their "recipe". But last trip my Dsis had one and I had a bite. Yummy!! We will get at least one every trip from now on. It tastes just like moist, delicious ham. :thumbsup2
The turkey legs we eat on Thanksgiving are cooked in an oven, not irradiated in a nuclear reactor.

I have never tried one before, but just watching someone shove their faces into a huge, dripping piece of meat on a stick almost makes me gag. Just the smell of them also makes me sick. I don't hate turkey and I'm sure they taste good, but I don't think I could ever force myself to eat one.

I vote for Tofu Pups at Casey's, too!

I never can get the mental picture out of my head that I saw one year at our state fair. The biggest, hairiest, greasiest, grossest guy I've ever seen was walking around with a huge greasy turkey leg stuck in his chest pocket on his shirt. Yuck! :scared1: The grease was seeping through the pocket. That did it for me!

I'm sorry, I just didn't have any love for the turkey leg. I saw the special on food network and they talked about how delicious they are, so me and dh needed to try one on our trip. Now, dh will eat anything so he ate his no problem, he didn't really have an opinion. It was food and he was hungry. I had a couple bites and hit a tendon and felt like I was at medieval times, it just wasn't my thing.

Don't you think these turkey leg eating people know how to wash their hands?

DD had one a couple of years ago and enjoyed it very much but then had one last year and bit into a tendon...yuck! We had to throw it away and go get something else for her! I don't think she will ever try one again.

My DD loves these. She tried one for the first time in 2002, and ate the entire thing by herself. And yes, some of us do have the capability of thinking to wash our hands before and after eating.

So we vote yummy for the legs...Can't wait to get one for "each" of us on our trip in May.

They come from the Barry Bonds turkey farm. ;)

So THAT's why they're so "greasy"! It's not grease. It's just the cooked residue from the "cream and clear" they're giving those "turkeys"

:rotfl:

No offense, Mr. Bonds. Please don't sue me. :guilty:
