Turkey Day Gang 2009

Yep - we call them "The Leahs" or "Leah Squared". The last I read, the Teen Club is now ages 14-17, and Ocean Quest is 11-13. They keep changing things around, so who knows what it will be in November. The Leahs will be 14.

If you live north and east of St. Louis...watch out! You have a storm heading your way that has already left about 3 inches of snow and a half inch of ice with another 3 to 4 inches of snow expected. People living in southern Missouri are supposed to get 3 to 5 inches of sleet & ice :faint: !

Hey All -

Haven't posted in quite a while -so much going on I haven't kept up well. I need to go back and review. What I did see first thing this am was the 2005 turkey thread and have been reading that in between other stuff today. Boy am I ready to cruise NOW after what little I have read.

We had a fantastic thanksgiving in Kissimmee tho only 2 days with the mouse. Both bil & wife, 2 dnieces's and inlaws came down and we had such a great time we were SURE they would commit to the turkey day cruise 09. Unfortunately bil called dh last night to say they can't come after all. I guess I should go ahead and get the deposit back since I made it. I'll have to see if they can just move it to my room since I had to pay their deposits off last August. Anyone have experience with cancellations? They sound easy and I hope they really are.

However, since bil's family cancelled that means the inlaws are right behind. I'm more than a little disappointed, but with sil getting laid off and now deciding to stay home till their youngest is in school I can understand. In order to ease my disappointment I booked a med cruise in 2010 on my 18 yr wedding anniversary so I think I'll survive. Dh is so not happy with me right now though.

At any rate that put us down to 11 in our little cruise group but then we convinced my uncle - mom's brother to join us. We've never spent much time with him so this should be fun. He seems the type to enter the legs contest I just read about, but we'll have to see.

And is there really an 80's night on 7 day cruises or was that something special?

Anyone know if jenimant had her baby?

Last year at this time we were at Nassau. But instead we have about 1" of snow here today. Just barely enough for the kids to play in. Most counties in Maryland are closed though anyway. We're a bunch of wimps, what can I say?

Well thats just a shame. How do we convince them to bring it back?

Of course that would require another suitcase so maybe its not a bad thing.

NO NO NO . . . please no 80's music (too many weird high school Flock of Seagulls memories)! Now 70's - thats another story! However, that would also require another suitcase - filled with mostly polyester of course!!!

Just heard some bad news. Those of you who were on the Thanksgiving Magic in 2005 and or 2007 probably remember my college roommate Sue. She and her son Jacob sailed with us on those cruises. Well, today her father was diagnosed with lung cancer. :sad1: I know how devastating such a diagnosis is. My mother passed away 12 years ago after battling lung cancer for just over a year. :sad1: Sue and her family are like family to me. Please include her family in your prayers. Thanks!!

Lisa

Lisa, we'll be saying prayers here too. I'm sorry to hear that. :sad1: In fact, I was just before asking if Sue and her son were going to be joining us all again on this Thanksgiving cruise. Please keep us posted, and let her know that we're thinking about her and Jacob. It's hard to watch our parents suffer.

No baby yet, but thanks for asking. I was due last Thursday but have gone late with the other 3 so this is nothing new. The kids thought the snow today was great, poor things... they really don't know what good snow is. I'm hoping everything is iced over tomorrow morning so I don't have to go to work (I work for AACPS and we are supposed to have an inservice day, yuck).

My mom does know something about cancellations but I can't remember what she said. We had to make some changes to our original ressies (friends that were originally booked backed out but other friends took their rooms) and we were able to keep the cheaper rate and on board credits. Can't remember how she did it but I'll ask her and let you know.

Lisa - I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's dad. Getting old really stinks and watching it happen is so hard. It makes me appreciate the time I have with my parents. I'm really glad they are able to do things like this cruise with us.

On a lighter note. Jodie for you - And I raaaa-aaa-aann. I ran so far a-waaaa-yyyyy. I met dh in 83. Those were good days. *sigh*

Still reading the 2005 trip report. It sounds like it was soooo much fun. I love the matching t-shirt idea. Last cruise we went on I made our group wear the same thing every day. 1st day we wore matching disney hawiian prints. Then it was red top & denim bottoms, then green top & black bottoms, anyway you get the idea. Ever since that trip Bil is still convinced I'm not quite right in the head, but whatever, I can live with that. It made for great pictures.

I am curious if anyone else is doing the early dinner seating, it sounds like everyone is late. I thought the idea of linking tables sounded like fun and I'll see what I can do with the early seating if there is any one besides my group doing that. We have requested the F3 seating which is the 1st seating but the 3rd slot so it was at 6pm rather than 5:30 or 5:45.

And lastly - does anyone know if this cruise is booked? I went on line to try to pull up what a 4 person cabin would cost today b/c jeniamt mentioned her mom rebooked someone in a room after someone else in their party cancelled, and I've been talking to people to take my bil's room, but when I try to pull it up it says there are no vacation dates available. I was just trying to tell people what they could save if they booked bil's room with my on board booking discount, but I can't seem to get it to work.

Oh and I almost forgot - I was able to pull up rates for 4 fine - plenty of availability, but prices have definitely gone up since I booked ages ago.

Good morning ~

We are on the "early" list as DH and brother-in-law wanted it. They did not like feeling stuffed at bed time. I re-priced our cruise about a week ago and it was up $450.00. Now I am just waiting to get my airline tickets and we will be all set in the logisitcs. I just will need to go to the school board to get DD out of school for a week before the cruise! .. :sad2: :sad2: At that time it will be her Senior Year  :faint:  :faint: and this is her trip for it!

Hi everyone, it's Charles. I was on the Turkey cruise in 2005 with my then wife, Maria. My soon-to-be new wife will be on the cruise, well it will be our honeymoon. We are getting married October 24, 2009. It will be great to see everyone again. I will be checking in here quite a bit now that we have reservations. We will be on deck 2. This will be April's, my fiancee, first cruise. Please be kind to the newbie.

Question: Is there still an 80's night? That was so much fun when some you went up on stage. I still have the pix from that cruise.

Charles, welcome back! We remember you. (It's about time you sailed with us again!)

What a great honeymoon! We look forward to meeting April and sailing with you again. (No more 80's night though. Sad.)

Holy cow! I finally got on to the disney cruise site - it was my old computer that kept going to la-la land, I think - the price of my room, cat 9, went up 1400 and the room bil is giving up, cat 6, went up 1200 since I booked just over a year ago while on board. That is a lot of clams.

I also booked my auto train tickets down for t-giving. To save some more clams we'll be arriving the morning of the cruise. I guess I have to kiss early boarding goodbye. Ah well.

Has anyone done the Golden Eagle Catamaran in St Martin before?

Welcome back Charles!

Since you will be celebrating your honeymoon, you may want to look into the REAS package!!

Enjoy!!
