Has anyone ever used the TSS to have points transfered to them? DH is thinking of inviting add'l in-laws on our vacation and is considering the GV @ VGF :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: We are currently booked in a 2Bedroom at VGF and obviously don't have nearly enough pts. If you have had pts transfered to you, how much did you pay per pt? how fast were the points in your account? Any other info or tips are greatly appreciated :thumbsup2 Thanks

Once a transfer is initiated it's immediate. Unless it's the same home resort as your current one you won't be able to see the points online and would have to call in to use the points or even verify they are there. And probably no guaranteed of seeing them online even if it is the same although there have been reports that if it matches up people can see it.

Yes, I received a transfer through TTS a few months back. The process went quickly -- from "email offer" to "points confirmed in my account" on the same day.

Bill is correct. But I wonder if the membership could vote to have that changed. To me there's no reason at all dvc corporate or the membership would want to disallow paying for transfers. In an obvious way it is "cleaner" for points to transfer than to be rented.

If something needs to change with a reservation that's rented, it is a big deal and a headache for the renter. Not so with a transfer. In that case, all the work modifying or changing can be done by the person actually staying for the trip themselves.

And if someone has a crazy party and trashes a room, it's potentially the liability of the member whose points are used. With a transfer, those are now "your points". So if you send your kids down for spring break and they go wild, you are on the hook yourself.

Rentals are obviously needed, so non-owners can stay on points. But for the owners, why on earth not allow transfers with compensation? Especially when rental for money is explicitly allowed "so long as it's not commercial," whatever that means...

I'm guessing it would (1) be expensive to fully implement a system to properly account for transferred points...the current 1 transfer per use year is because some were buying a contract with distressed (ie holding) points and then transfer them into a fully loaded contract to flip.
It would be much easier to run a rental business if you could transfer in all points...ie transfer your points to David and David does all the work.

(2) and more inportantly, DVD would rather you buy more points if you really needed more points.

I believe an important reason for the policy is "CYA" for Disney.

Technically, points represent a deeded interest in a lease and in and of themselves have no value.

Disney does not want to get involved in any potential disputes between members. If they prohibit transfers for money, make transfers final and irreversible transactions, and if points themselves have no value, then there is no reason for them to get involved in any transfer disputes. Saves them time and hassle.

FWIW, Disney would prefer that there be no renting at all by members. While renting is permissible according to the POS, Disney is not going to do anything policy-wise that will either encourage or make the process easier.
