TSM standby-less test Oct. 6-9

I think it's absolutely ridiculous... We already bought tickets to get into the park to ride the damn thing, and now they want to take that chance away from anyone who may not score a fp? Stupid.

I have a day planned that we are going shopping, but have FP+ just in case. I was going to cancel them. Then I thought no, how will they ever fix the system if I do the work for them. Disney needs to study the data (no shows and such) to effectively make it work better.

Another local AP holder here.
I book FP for almost every weekend, cause I'm never sure which weekends I'll go to the parks.

I know if I don't book, I won't get to ride the big stuff without waiting a long time, or at all.

I'm always torn, because I feel like I'm stealing a FP+ from someone on a dream vacation. But at the same time, I paid for my AP, and should be able to ride the big stuff too, without waiting an hour plus for each. I have done it though, just taking advantage of a system available to me.
So I book them, and then cancel the morning of. I've also noticed that SB lines are sometimes much higher than the actual wait. I'm sure there's a reason.

I realize TTMM is not a good pick for this, but I keep thinking a few more attractions (TofT, Soarin', the mountains) could benefit from a single rider line. Don't know where they'd put yet another line - but on multiple occassions, especially on TofT and Space Mountain, the CM's are begging for single riders. And sorry to deviate from the original conversation, for some reason, closing the SB line made me think of this.

Sincerest of apologies for anyone dealing with this today. It can't be fun. For guests and CMs.

We have annual passes and because of FP+, I typically have FP+ booked for popular attractions for as many weekends out as it will let me if there's even a 1% chance I might be at the parks. Usually that gets me close to a months worth of weekends. I know many other passholders who now do the same thing. Often we'll only go once in a month which leaves 7 days of unused FP+ reservations. I can't imagine they have an easy way to add these back into the system.

This is one of my problems with FP+. DisUniversal I'm not bashing you. I might would do the same on a small scale if I lived close and had an AP. I'm bashing the system that allows folks that may never step a foot in the park taking FP+ spots. Some have been upset about a few guest using unlinked MBs to book same day FP+s and getting "more than their share". At least those are going to be used. How about those that are booked and never used. Not that I think this is a huge problem that is taking big chunks of FP+s. Just something else I don't like about the FP+ system. The reply for unused FPs has always been, "the SB lines moves faster" but if there is no SB, then it really does keep other guest from riding.

I always looked at it as helping do my part to make the standby lines move a little bit quicker, but if they eliminate the standby lines then what?

Exactly...without a standby line, people are just using up slots that nobody else will get to enjoy. Not going to change the way I do things though just because Disney came up with a stupid idea. Let them figure it out. Maybe they can make it that you can only book "same day" FP+ reservations once you're actually in the park...that might require a rather large kiosk expansion though. ;)

Gosh, I wonder if they put a sign out at the ticket windows. You know, so nobody plops down $100 hoping to ride the biggest attraction in the park. There are probably people in the park already hoping to get in line later in the evening.
i agree there should be a warning sign at the ticket window "You're experience today may be limited due to ride capacity issues" or some such notice.

Thank you for canceling them. When you cancel they go back into the pot and are up for grabs for anyone. What I hate is when people know they aren't using their FP and don't cancel it or change it to later. Disney can't possibly auto cancel it for you since they can't assume you won't show up.

Well you don't have to worry about doing it for tomorrow as they are already no FP+ available.

Yeah, but if the person doesn't show up they just put a person from the standby line in their place.

Since you aren't technically a no show until the FP window has already passed what do you expect them to be able to do before hand? How would you feel if you woke up and found they deleted that fast pass before hand because you hadn't entered the park by x time but we're planning to show up at the start of the window and then leave after? They account for no shows by booking more FPs than they should.

If you know you aren't going cancel the fast passes so Disney can put them back in the system for other guests to be able to pick up (it automatically happens so they already have the system) there is no way they could preknow you will no show unless you cancel them yourself.

I must have explained it wrong. (or it just sounded better in my head) Being forced to pick and plan FP+ 60 days in advance (if your get to stay on site) some rides like TSM I have to pick or otherwise the chance will be not there for me to secure a FP+ at the times (or not at all) that I would use.
Now there is information in there for them to use, did they not come at all? did they ride a different ride? did they stay at their hotel? did they choose the FP at 60 days? if so have the changed times on the FP system since then? Letting Disney figure out all this will help them serve a greater number of people.
I think it is great that they have a system in place for no shows, I did not assume that they did because every time I look at 7D, it is filled for the day.

squelch that rumour you cannot use unlinked magic bands to get fastpases the fastpasses are linked to the tickets which are linked to mde. No ticket no fastpass.

It will always show as full of no shows don't cancel because they overbook FP+ assuming a percentage will no show and not cancel. If you cancel they go back into the pot for someone else to grab.

I don't think they will change it based on what you are doing because the system would work fine for the way they do it if you just cancelled the FPs. All it is showing them is that some people don't cancel so they are correct in having the over bookings. You know everyone showed up if you get to the FP line and the wait is more than 30 minutes.

It would have been nice if ALL guests had the option to reserve FP+ in advance, before testing such a ridiculous thing. But since they didn't, it's just another sign that Disney isn't interested in some people's money all simply because they don't have the right type of ticket.

It is now 12:15 p.m. and this is what pops up on the FP+ selection screen:

FastPass+ Distribution Has Ended for Selected Day

They changed that a while back for all rides on MDE.

It used to say "Standby Available" if there were no more FPs available for pre-booking.

You can use unlinked magic bands day of at the kiosks. The system was set up like that original so that off duty CMs and their guests could get fast passes since you could have a MB of staying on property but no ticket and originally we were not allowed to tap our main gates for fp+. Now that CMs can tap their main gates the loop hole needs to be closed.

Good point, glad it came up. I'll make sure to cancel those the morning of, when I am 100% sure I won't be there.
