TSA to allow snow globes

It's because of the physical layout of the Atlanta airport. The international arrivals have to pass through the "sterile" domestic departures area in order to get out of the airport. Dumb design but . . .

Extreme example, (and I don't know if you can fly to or from Paris from Atlanta) but....

You pick up some expensive French perfume from the Paris Airport. This is after security. You wouldn't be able to take it home to Atlanta, since you have to go through domestic security again? And yes, it's in your carry-on and it's more than 3.4 oz.

This is no longer true.

Atlanta has opened the new terminal. If your flight is Paris to Atlanta, then you pick up your luggage, walk thorough customs and keep right on going out to the street. You will no longer go through domestic security.

So you don't have to submit to the theatre again to go home if Atlanta is your destination.

Now... if you pick up this perfume in Paris and fly Paris to Boston and Boston to Atlanta (Or Orlando, or New York etc...) then you better put that pricey perfume in your checked luggage when you clear customs or it gets to be a gift for some TSA agents wife (Or for the TSA agent themselves!)

Atlanta was unique in that you had to clear security to leave the airport, but I am not sure it was any worse a design than that mess at Orlando where the poor tourists coming from Europe etc... have to HAUL that luggage from the bowels of the airport and the rest of us are held up while the TSA makes "show" of checking the train cars! :happytv:

Just to clear things up, you DO submit to TSA if Atlanta is your first stop (but not final destination) after being out of the country. Here's how it went for us...

Deplane --> Immigration (get passport stamped) --> Retrieve luggage --> Customs --> Recheck luggage --> TSA --> Shuttle to domestic terminals.

Obviously if you picked up something duty free, you can put it in your checked luggage before handing the checked luggage back over to airport folks.

Just got back from Orlando last night. Just ahead of me, going through security, was a fellow dressed like Yoda. He had a long, loose brown garment over loose beige pants and shirt. He was an asian gentleman, and I think some type of monk. Not to be disrespectful, but I couldn't help but wonder whether he would be made to take off the long, flowing overgarment. I am certain that I would have had to do so, if I had chosen to dress in that manner. When we went to Florida at spring break time, the TSA agent had fits over my lightweight sweater covering a camisole top. I had to have a pat down, and they made me take the sweater off, and they rubbed me down with some sort of pad to be sure I hadn't bathed in explosives that morning. I am sure there is "profiling", both positive and negative, for them to allow a male Asian monk to remain fully clothed, while they all but strip searched me, a blond, middle aged female wearing a Catholic four way medal and Miraculous medal. I guess that a terrorist could masquerade as blond Catholic woman, but, I would guess that they would have more room to hide stuff in a nun's habit that in capris, bare feet and a camisole (and a true Muslim believer would NEVER dare to be seen dressed as I was in public).

Are there really snow globes in WDW that will fit in a quart sized bag? We ordered 2 from Disneystore.com and the box & foam case were bigger than a gallon of milk. The Nemo one where the ball part sits on the sting ray was really huge, bigger than I expected. They would have to be tiny to fit a quart size bag. :rolleyes1

That's re-assuring. That would make them the only law enforcement agents not allowed to make situation-based decisions.
You didn't think I literally meant they were electronic humanoids, did you? That description was meant to make a point, one which you just re-enforced in your sentence I quoted above at the top of this post.

Actually, we don't know that. We don't know the agent was specifically told to search the bare legs, we can only assume that the person looking at the image from the scan saw something they didn't interpret properly. We don't know what they said to the agent that did the search, or that they were specifically told to search bare skin. Perhaps it could have gone something like this.."I see something on the lower leg area, pat down their clothing" Other agent: subject is wearing shorts, there is no clothing below the knee. First agent: OK.

That's why a guy got naked a while back...to prove beyond a doubt he's not hiding anything so they would have absolutely no excuse to touch him.
I didn't say there weren't pretty nice people. I didn't say they don't have a job to do. How well they do their job is subject to debate since it's really hard to gauge what their job actually is or how you determine if they have achieved that goal. Security theater is a term used by many, not just myself, to describe the illusion of security being attempted by TSA. They do have an important responsibility, that's why it's so unfortunate that the TSA is such a mess, even shutting down airports because of their bungling. Not to mention the ones getting fired for stealing, sleeping, assisting smugglers, etc. I'd expect this from workers at Walmart, not the TSA.

They do a great job at following orders, regardless of the consequences of those logic-less interactions....I'll agree with you there. No situation, be it pulling out a flight attendants prosthetic breast, or breaking a colastamy bag after being warned abut it, or tugging and touching a stomach feeding tube after being given a doctors note, or frisking a 92 year old, or detaining a former governor who just had a heart surgery, will stop them from "just following orders".

You have your opinion, I have mine. You don't like mine, fine. I understand the rationale and respect it. I feel more secure with the TSA being there, you find fault. We both have the option of flying or not and if we opt to fly, we are subject to the TSA and their rules, like them or not. So, for my part, I am done with this. Have a great day. I am sure you can find someone else to be contrary with.
