Does anyone know if a small box of powdered detergent can be in a checked bag as long as it's sealed?

I've looked at a recent picture someone had on the CBR thread and it showed some detergents but none that we use. I don't want to take a chance of someone in my family (myself included) having a reaction to a change in detergent. We may already need to bring our own Bounce dryer sheets b/c I have a reaction to Snuggles (which was in the vending machine) and DS10 has a reaction to Downy (which I don't know if they have in the machine).

Thanks.

I didn't know if the TSA would think it's something that it's not.

Not a problem in either checked or carryon. BUT...a piece of advice. Put it in a ziploc baggie. The first time I took those single use boxes, one broke open in my checked bag!!! Not fun when I got unpacked!!!!

Don't worry. I have brought all kinds of powdered things in baggies and it's okay. I like a certain kind of creamer and didn't want to bring the whole container. Once, I had a coconut, shells, food, all kinds of things in my bag and the only thing that happened is the TSA opened my bag. When they do this they leave a note for you. Seems to happen to me every time. :rolleyes1

Well, I don't actually dump the detergent into a baggie. I like to use the single use boxes, but don't want them to get cracked/squished in my checked bag. So, I put the entire box into a larger ziploc baggie. Then, if it does get split open, nothing gets all messy. It's all kept in the baggie.

Great tip. TSA does go through your checked bags. I find my zip bags "opened" by either scissors or a razor type box cutter pretty often. (Don't know why they don't just open the zip bag like normal.)

In the past, I have traveled with 3 oz baby power along, checked. When I got to my destination, I found the powder had been opened and sprinkled over my clothes, twice. :sad2: After it happened a second time, I learned my lesson. I don't bring this anymore. If that happened with detergent, I would be really unhappy.

Because of my experience, I would never travel with powdered laundry detergent. If I had to have a certain brand, I'd mail it to the resort.

I do travel with purex sheets of detergent. Never had problems with those, I have saved a couple of boxes. unfortunately, I think purex isn't making these anymore.

Always. Even when we travel by car I always make sure to have any type of liquid or powder in ziploc bags. I would hate for any liquid to spill in my car if it gets tipped in the bathroom bag.
