Friends of ours are going in 2 weeks, they're on the DDP.

And - despite my best efforts;) - haven't made any TS ADRs.

They don't want to have an "eating schedule".
Which is fine, :goodvibes but I also know that their kids are going to want to eat at 12noon, and 5pm:teeth: ...and they want to eat with Minnie, and Pooh.

Their TA told them they would be fine, and could just walk in for the Character Breakfast:rolleyes:

So...if they book a few TS meals, and don't show up for the ADR, they'll lose those credits, right?

And they can't use TS credits for CS meals, correct?

TIA!!

UPDATE!!!!

Oh dear...:(

They're still going with the "we can walk in, our TA said so"...they will call WDWDining the night before if they think they want to do a TS the next day, and see what's available..

I just said, ok, have a great trip!:)

...and ask if me I called WDW and asked about TS availability for their time frame???
Of course I did:teeth:
I think they'll be munching lots of turkey legs...

Thanks all!!
I'll let you know how they did when they get back!! LOL!!

ACK!!! - I really need to know the answer to this one. I assumed if we decided to skip one of the ADRs we had made we would not lose any TS credits. If I am wrong I definately want to know now rather than find out when we are down there! :scared1:

I don't think they lose the credits for missing the ADR, but if they don't get in someplace else, eventually they will run out of vacation days.

They cannot use ts credits for cs meals to my knowledge. Unfortunately, the time it sounds like they are going is right after Easter week and will probably be fairly busy.

A few meals take a credit card guarantee, for dining guests. No show for those meals and your credit card will be charged for the meal. Basically CRT, the dinner shows and the guarantee for CG. Otherwise no pealty if you don't show.

.... Otherwise no penalty if you don't show.

Phew!!

They aren't doing any of the $10cc guarantee reataurant offerings...but I think I can now convince them to get an ADR for a CB, at least:goodvibes

They're going April 11-18... again, their TA told them the week after Easter would be deserted:upsidedow

thanks all!!

Their kids want to eat with Minnie and Pooh? How old are they? Oh man...I am feeling so sorry for those kids...what if their parents get down there and find out they can't just walk in to any character meal? :sad2:

If they know for sure they want to do character breakfasts, see if you can at least get them to make ADR's just for a couple of those (IF they can get in anywhere this late). If they schedule breakfasts, then they have the whole rest of the day free to "wing it". See if you can convince them what a time saver it is because the kids will meet the characters, get cute pics and autographs, and they won't have to wait in line in the parks later. Then even when their parents find out they can't walk into 'Ohana or Le Cellier or Spoodles, and they are eating dinner in the hotel food court at 9pm, at least the kids won't be crushed because Mommy and Daddy got bad advice from their TA.

I read on another board that the elevator posters for Boma and Jiko now say "reservations required" not "suggested". Can anyone confirm this?

What you might suggest to them (even if they say, "yeah, yeah" and shrug it off, maybe they'll remember your sage advice after eating CS for the first two days of their trip) is if they absolutely refuse to make ADR's in advance, to try calling their hotel concierge or Disney Dining the first thing each morning to find out what is available for dinner, where and when. Maybe they'll get lucky with a last minute cancellation somewhere, or at least they'll have some idea where they want to be around suppertime :thumbsup2

There are lots of pages on the net (probably one here on the DIS, but I don't have time to search right now) that give projected park attendance. I'm sure it will show that the week after Easter WDW will NOT be a ghost town.

It is so hard when people believe hte TA over what real life experience tells them. I don't believe there are very many deserted times anymore. Disney has done a fine job of filling up these times.

ALl you can do is share your experience. If they want to come here and ask, we will be sure to tell them our opinions :thumbsup2

I agree with you though, these are going to be some pretty disappointed people trying to use their TS credits.

Deserted? You can tell them the unofficial guide crowd charts has that time frame rated as 9's & 10's on a 10 point scale (their last 2 days are a 7). Another site I use has it rated at 4 & 5 on a 5 point scale.

They need to make ADR's if their kids want to do character meals.

No, they won't losing their dining credits if they don't show up for an ADR but they will lose them if they get to the end of their stay and weren't able to get into restaurants to use them up.

I wish them luck. It's nice of you to try and point them in the right direction.

The breakfast buffet at Cape May (BC) is a lot easier ADR to get than Chef Mickey's.

Posting a quick update on Post#1:)

Their TA is living in a dream world! They should get a new TA -- I'm sure they will for next trip.

They wont be penalized if they dont show up. We did just that. My 2 year old did not wake up from his nap so we missed our ressie at spoodles and showed up at Alfredo's and got seated immediately and were not penalized for the last minute switch. I did tell the CM in the concierge lounge and he said no worries just dont show up. So there is no penalty.

And they can't use TS credits for CS meals, correct?

When we went in spring of '06 we were able to use some of our TS meals for CS meals. We did not have a problem anywhere we went except for the CS spot in Norway at Epcot. I think that was more of a language barrier than anything. The guys behind us just paid OOP rather than trying to work with the staff.

The TA said that it would be deserted for Easter??? It's booked!! I had a hard time getting ADRs for our April 7th-14th trip and that was 3 months ago. I had to call everyday for 6 weeks to get into Mickey's backyard BBQ. I still didn't get some of the ADRs that I wanted, had to settle for 2nd choices. I think they are going to be dissappointed when they can't walk up and get into a restaurant!!

I do hope there trip is good. Please let us know is they were able to get TS without a ressie.

I would never take that chance! Im so glad I found the Dis before our first trip.

When we were on DDP we did have a bit of a hard time getting to all our TS ressies. Time goes by so fast! We were hot and wanted to go back to the room and shower before dinner. Some of our ressies were at other resorts.
We didnt want to be to late so we grabbed cabs instead of trying to take the bus to MK then grab another bus to another resort. It was time consuming too!

Uh oh. Not gonna happen most likely.
Their TA told them they would be fine, and could just walk in for the Character Breakfast:rolleyes:
My goodness. Now sometimes people hear what they want to hear. But if the TA actually said that, there should be some professional consequences.
So...if they book a few TS meals, and don't show up for the ADR, they'll lose those credits, right?
Not at all. They won't lose em at all. The exception is in places that take your credit card number. There you won't lose a credit, but you will be subject to a cancellation charge.
They're going April 11-18... again, their TA told them the week after Easter would be deserted
Another whopping error.
Oh dear...:(
HEHE, that's what I was thinking before I ever read this part.
They're still going with the "we can walk in, our TA said so"...they will call WDWDining the night before if they think they want to do a TS the next day, and see what's available..
Wow. Now if they do that, they will find somewhere to eat. It may not be where they want, when they want, but they will get something.
I just said, ok, have a great trip!:)
What else can you say? If they won't listen, they won't listen. I give people my advice once. I don't argue the point further. They can either take my advice or they can crash and burn.
...and ask if me I called WDW and asked about TS availability for their time frame???
Did you call?
Of course I did:teeth:
I think they'll be munching lots of turkey legs...
CRASH AND BURN.
To be honest with you, I believe they will always be able to find some place to eat. It probably won't be where they first thought they'd want when they want it. But if they're flexible and call the number for availability, they will get in somewhere. Even if it's a place like Maya Grill. Now that gets deadpanned here a lot but it's a place where if you know what to order, you're going to have a nice relaxing time with a view of the lagoon that is excellent and also a nice meal.

Last Sunday, I was talking to a woman who is going to Disney World the week after Easter with a party of 7. She had no idea about making ADR's, so I hope that she took my advice and called for a few. Another friend that was there said that she heard "that restaurant in Canada" was very good. I really hope that they have a great trip, but it's a little scary knowing that they are going in so unprepared to such a busy time.
