Hi, I wonder if anyone here can help me.

I have some relations in the US which I am trying to trace. They were last known to me to be in Long Island but that was a while ago. Our families lost touch once my dad died about 10 years ago.

I've tried looking on Yahoo White Pages but it's proving difficult. DOes anyone know any good people finding sites that they could recommend? The surname is quite common and there was my aunt and 5 cousins. 3 of my cousins are female so quite likely are now married and the 2 male cousins are called Jackie and Bobby - quite popular names!

I've tried looking on a couple of Long Island websites but can't find one which has a section for trying to locate people.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also is Brooklyn in Long Island?

Nope Brooklyn is not in Long Island. It is one of the 5 boroughs though. I think there is a website called people finders or something. If you know what town they grew up in you could check out classmates.com. Did you try googling their full names? Sometimes that works too. Good luck!

I just know that they grew up in Long Island. I know the name of the road they lived in but not much else.

Well if you know the name iof the street they lived on, that's a huge help....Try googling "xxx road in Long Island, NY" and then you can probably get the name of the town. THen google for schools in or near that town, and you would have schools to start with to look at on Classmates.com. Good luck to you!

Try whitepages.com. Put in any of their info that you have on whatever of their search engines you want to try - reverse phone look-up, names/addresses, etc. You might get lucky and finr some of the still lving in their old houses.

You can also wander your way through Ancestry.Com, putting in whatever info you have and seeing if you get any hits.

Do a Google search of their last name and their street address - you'd be surprised what might come up.

good luck,
agnes!

If the internet search isn't working - you can contact the public library of the town and have them look them up in the telephone book from the time period that you remember. You can also ask them to look in the years after, so you may find when they were no longer at that address.

Also - post on the forum boards at Ancestry.com - the specific surname board and the specific location board with as much info you have, you never know who is reading those. Those posts also show up on rootsweb

THIS website is excellent for person location because it searches many sites at once.

Brooklyn and Long Island are completely different places. New York City includes several boroughs and areas; Manhattan and Queens would be examples of others.

Your best bet for right now is probably a Google search, but don't be too discouraged if you can't find anything. It can be hard.

Isn't Brooklyn on Long Island? (Technically?)
