Trying to stay positive

What time was your original reservation for - From the calendar posted online ( and I know that isn't always up to date and can change without notice)
It shows most Fridays park hours 8 or 9am to 11pm or midnight. Unless a special event came up - which does happen time to time - it appears maybe an hour less but still open late so i doesn't seem like much overall from what is available. At least they were in contact

I think anyone has the right to complain sure , however that does not mean anyone is entitled to more regardless of how bad the circumstances may be to you ( general you for posting purposes). Here is the thing - once you accommodate one person you have to accommodate everyone which only creates a domino effect. Let's say they gave a fastpass to every guest to use whenever they wanted. Then people will complain fast pass lines are too long since other rides are down and so many are being handed out( i've seen this before) or find something else that isn't working out now. My point is it's understandable to have disappointment or even frustration but if you are truly THAT unhappy with it it all comes down to choice : Go or don't go - even if this trip must be taken due to already being paid - you can choose not to go again if you feel questionable about the value. You can also choose to enjoy the time there or to find only fault in it.

Everyone in the parks during any refurbishment is paying for the same thing - regardless of how far or little they traveled - we are all in the same boat. I always suggest constructive feedback but outright expecting something in return is just silly to me. Don't take it out on the people on the phone , at the parks , at the ticket booths - they have zero control over how scheduling is done. They are the low man on the totem pole and stuff rolls downhill. I have always had great luck emailing my concerns or feedback and have gotten calls back. I just hate when anyone goes into a situation feeling entitled because they feel their time , money and energy is more important than anyone else and feels the need to be compensated.

I just received a call that our Minnie Breakfast on Friday Feb 6th has been moved to 9 AM since they have had to change the park hours. I am assuming this is due to droves of people cancelling their trips due to the ride closures and now the measles debacle. This is the straw that broke the camel's back for me: I have tried to go with the flow with so many ride closures/castle covering, and no I didn't know about them when I booked my trip. Now they are punishing those of us that are still coming with even less time in the park! I paid full price for my tickets and I am getting nowhere near the usual value. For the PP who commented that we shouldn't expect anything because we are still choosing to go: I can't cancel my trip or change the dates. We are stuck with them. I will make the best of a less than stellar situation, but I don't think its fair to imply that we have no right to complain. I am definitely dissapointed that DIsney has decided to shorten park hours!!

I doubt it's due to cancellations from the measels outbreak. I've only seen one person here posting who cancelled. There were issues with the calendar not showing right times and it's possible it may have always had a 9 or 10am opening and was not showing the proper time, hence letting you book an earlier breakfast.

As for Refurbs, it's pretty common knowledge Disneyland doesn't post them out nearly as far in advance as disneyworld. Why that is, I don't know. What I do know though is that some rides customarily go down in Jan/Feb (GRR & Splash being the two most common) and since I enjoy reading various blogs and news sites, I knew there was going to be rumors of a few rides including Peter Pan going down as far back as I'd say Oct or Nov, if not earlier due to the 60th anniversary.

As for calling the measels thing a debacle, how is it a debacle on Disneylands end? A debacle would mean Disneyland contributed to it. About the extent of Disney's contribution is that the place is so popular, people from around the world visit, and with different countries having different vaccination requirements, as well as the growing anti vaccination movement going on in the US it was only a matter of time. The point still stands though that if you are vaccinated, you have a significantly higher chance of contracting the flu then you do the Measels. And to blame Disney for this is foolishness at best.

Is Splash Mountain always closed this time of year? This will be my 3rd time with my son - 2014 in February Splash Mountain and TMR were closed. This was ok because he didn't quite meet the height and hadn't gone on yet, so didn't know. We went in October 2014, and now SM and TMR are among his favourites. If TMR had been closed, I wouldn't have bothered going. With SM being closed along with WTP, it's not that bad because then that whole section will likely be closed and we won't have to walk by it.

yeah I am in the same boat. I plan my trips out almost 10 months in advance and so was shocked to see all the closures.

Sort of sucks as it will be a once in a lifetime trip but hoping it wont feel as bad.

But I am sure Disney could give a crap about 1 family like ours LOL

We are in the same boat, we booked ours back in may last yr, BUT I am not feeling as upset now as I was, think I got it out of my system...either that or the fact that we leave in 8 days, that fear has taken over...lol

We are coming from Australia, so everything will be new and wonderfully amazing to us - we hope...lol

Debacle was probably the wrong choice of word: I definitely don't think Disneyland is at fault AT ALL for the current situation. I was referring to the media storm and resulting freak out (I have had 8 people walk up to me today at work and ask if I am cancelling my trip!).

Perhaps it was an issue with the calender, but the message that was left said that they were changing the time of my reservation because they had to change the park hours. So to me it sounded like it was something planned on their end.

I don't feel like I should get special treatment. But I do feel a bit ripped off that I am paying full price for tickets and getting significantly less rides and now less time in the park. I will not call and yell at the poor person on the phone because I know they have no control over any of this. But I did want to express my frustration to others who are in the same boat with travel dates as me. As I said, I will make the best of it and have a magical time with my family, but I just needed to vent.

We were just there on Tuesday. Park was open 10 - 8, we were there 10:30-7:30. There was no time that we were bored because there weren't enough rides. We went on plenty, saw a show, ate a sit down lunch, had a Ghiradelli sundae and the rest of the time was all rides, rides, rides. We never missed anything that was closed, even though Haunted Mansion is my favorite. You will all have a great time and there is still plenty to see, don't worry.

At least the last two years it has been. As it's a water ride and no major events going on at disneyland such as MHP, Holiday, etc., it's typically the best time to do any sort of refurb on it due to the weather.

What time was the park supposed to be open? I think the earliest they open that's not a 24hr event is 8am with typical non event times such as jan/feb on weekdays as 10am, with some fridays opening at 9. Now if they said they were only opening from 12pm to 6pm then i'd consider that a significant decrease, but an hour?

Oh definitely. That's the price you pay for going in the off season. I could see if being refurbed this year and last, but I don't know if it's a set in stone, annual thing.

Any way of knowing if any of these will be up and operating by the first of March?

There are a lot of places online with lists of Disneyland Refurb closure schedules, but here's a link to one of them: http://touringplans.com/disneyland-resort/closures

I will say that I've seen the dates change a bit since I first started looking at the list after Christmas, so keep in mind that nothing is set in stone at this point, and bear this as more of a general guideline.

I just pulled out the calendar I made a couple weeks ago and at that time DL was open 9-12 and DCA 9-10. It is showing me the same hours on the site today.

Have they been shortened more than that?

Our reservation was for 8:10, so I assumed the parks were open at 8. An hour is not a huge deal, but since my kids are early risers (5 AM!), I was looking forward to an early start in the parks. Maybe we'll check out Downtown DIsney instead.

The character breakfasts at the hotels often start earlier than Minnie's. I know we've bumped into that in the past when we go during off season, too. We've done breakfast at Surf's Up (Paradise Pier) and Goofy's Kitchen (Disneyland Hotel) before the parks opened. When we did Minnie's, we opted to go for a late seating and did it more like an early lunch/late brunch meal, and had our early breakfast outside the park.

My little guy used to be a super early riser, too! He's better now, with 6:15-6:45 more normal, and sometimes even lets us sleep in until 7:30. (and I still can't believe that I now think 7:30 is "sleeping in" :rotfl:)

Thanks so much! This is very helpful. :thumbsup2

The world is a carousel of refurbs! :rolleyes1
It works out well that way, because these days, I always seem to be under refurbishment too. Lol .....No, really. :) Only unlike IASW, I am not wearing a tarp. I refuse to! ;) Again, really! :)

Thanks! I think of all the refurbs, the one most disappointing is the castle being covered. :( I'm an East coast visitor and don't get to go often (once every year or 2).

Every year or 2 is actually a lot more than most people. We used to go a lot but now our trips are spaced out a few years. Since we've been so many times, I don't really care about the castle that much. There are some who are taking a once in a lifetime trip, literally. I feel bad for them.
