We just bought into SSR under the current promo
My DH took some convincing too. Only two months worth though (that's a record) Hmmm only two months to get him to lay $$$$ on DVC and yet I still can't him to take down the blasted hurricnae shutters
shows you where my priorities are...but I digress. We did our own bit of financial analysis after I did the SSR tour. Knowing that the Contemporay was about $29 per night when they first opened up and is now $300 during regular season one can surmise that the rising cost of hotel stays yearly is about 8 - 9% (well above inflation)
Using the value resort rates as a baseline I calculated what the cost of staying at a value resort would be each year until 2054 (year SSR contract ends). The numbers I was seeing completely freaked me out
I am quite certain my heart literally stopped and for a moment and I briefly considered not eating donuts ever again since they aren't healthy or good for your heart either but quickly realized that idea is ludicrous... and yet again, I digress. Ok, so then, on a separate sheet I calculated what the annual dues would be until 2054 (also giving them a modest increase yearly) and added that total to the cost of buying the DVC points. The savings over time was more than apparent. I believe that this little bit was the first chip into the wall of denial my DH happily built regarding the prospect of buying into DVC
The Disboards and the wonderful folks on this forum were very helpful when it came to supplying me with the tools that I needed to finish breaking down DH's wall. I know that there is a thread somewhere where two posters were at odds on the cost of buying into DVC vs taking the same money, putting into an interest bearing account and using it strictly for yearly vacations. DVC still came out ahead admittedly by the proponent for the interest bearing account. I wish I had a link for you but I remember finding it on one of my exhaustive Google searches. The friends and family promo is what sealed the deal for us sicne it drops the per point cost from $101 to $86 but it ends on January 20 (no pressure)
I hope this helps! OK now, what to do about the hurricane shutters...
