Trying to buy 25 pts direct from Disney at BCV

I'm a bit nervous about getting a 25 point direct contract at BLT pretty soon. As soon as our BLT resale closes and we get our #, we're going to buy a 25pt Feb UY BLT direct, but I'm really hoping to get it done before Sept 30, the plan is to bank the 2017 points into 2018, and that has to be done before the cutoff. It'll be close, and there's a good chance we won't make it. We're going to try though.

I think you should be okay Skippy. I have heard that buying direct, Disney allows exceptions to the cutoff dates for banking and will work with you to make it happen.

For sure Scuba. I totally expected to have to buy the 25 points....they just got my hopes up yesterday when they made it sound like they would grant me an exception to buy 10 points. I will wait a few days to see if they change their minds, then look to add on 25 points anywhere as long as it has an April use year.

You may have more success in a few months. As it gets closer to dues time, a lot more contracts go up for sale which means more will be bought back through ROFR and foreclosures (from nonpayment of said dues). Thus, they're more likely to have BCV points available at that point. Keep in mind that direct purchases come with full current UY points and every year thereafter until expiraiton. Thus, an April UY contract has to have at least full April 2018 points, April 2019, etc. for them to be able to make a direct sale.

Have you tried reaching out to your guide? Look at the bottom of one of their marketing emails to find out who it is.

They'll let you bank the first year's 25 points regardless of that cutoff. No need to worry about that.

I have actually...I tried emailing him at the beginning of July and they said he was on vacation until July 28th. I reached out again last Friday and I have heard nothing back. I am wondering if he is still working there.

Sounds like he bought himself a nice add-on at BCV and extended his vacation. 8-) He's probably laying out at SAB right now. :beach:

Thanks! that's a relief. Much appreciated. I don't have to stress as much now

It's a nonsense they cannot sell 25 points and have closed the wait list. They could ROFR any being sold now , split it up and sell it in 25pt chunks. They are probably been obstructive on purpose. I think too many are buying 25pt to get perks, they may increase it.

So true.....I think they are getting wise to us secondary market buyers and our attempts to get our perks back. At the end of the day I am trying to give them more money! Work with me people!

I hope not!! I need to add on 30 extra points.

No worries on the banking concern, as long as you purchase direct prior to the start of the next year you'll be able to bank the point. The deadline does not apply new direct purchasers.

Often it is not really an exception to selling less than 25 points it is that the owner divides their points up into smaller contracts or within the 10 day period adds on the additional 15 points to cover the cost of a weeks stay at their resort for all seasons, so in total they purchased well over 300 points just divided in multiple contracts. Rather than having the owner cancel the original contract(s) DVC agrees to add on the additional 15 points in a separate contract.

To me they should never allow less than the minimum of 25.

They can and they do break up the old contract but the points will always retain the UY that it was originally sold at.
It is possible that the UY the OP wants just doesn't have that many points. http://dvcnews.com/index.php/dvc-pr...ar-distribution-charts-updated-september-2015

What they told me was they have points with an April use year but they are assigned to different buildings at BCV. They have one building with 10pts, one building with 8pts and one building with 5pts available and they cannot combine different buildings to get to the 25 point minimum. Not sure how true this is but two different guides confirmed the 10 and 8 point availabilities at different buildings. The second guide also confirmed that exceptions are sometimes granted for less than 25 points but a supervisor would need to grant it.

Not saying they should do it, but if there is an exception process, it strikes me as odd that some can get the exception and others cannot. I suspect those that bought direct are more likely to get the exceptions granted.

Just curious, are there closing costs on 10 points? If so, are the closing costs less than if you were buying, say, 100 points. I certainly hope so, otherwise that's a really costly per point closing cost.

I suspect there would be, but I'd also guess it would be substantially lower than buying 100 pts. I'm not terribly concerned about paying some closing costs even for only 10 pts as my ultimate goal here is to get the Disney perks lost when purchasing my original 250 pt contract through secondary market.

I expect ROFR take backs to increase as DVD sells out PVB later this year. They seem to need more money than one WDW project provides and Riviera is a couple of years away. Also CCV is off to a slow start which may pick up once PVB is closed but I expect that the direct sales of sold out resorts will increase like they did a few years ago.

I agree but I was hoping to get my points now before the 7 month window opens and booking becomes harder. I would like to bank whatever points I purchase in 2017 for a trip in 2018 but if I cannot get them soon and I have already booked my April 2018 trip I may be left with points I cannot use if next April is my only trip of the year.

Buying points should be a lot easier than this....shouldn't it?

If they don't have the points they don't have the points. They hate selling small contracts, they can make $1,500 selling you a 25 pointer or $35,000 on a 200 pointer at CCV and CCV is less work for them.
