Trying on shoes with bare feet?

+1

I try on shoes with what they will be worn with, whether it's barefoot, socks, trouser socks, stockings, etc. Isn't the point of trying shoes to see if/how they fit?

That's how I try my shoes on, the way I intend to wear them. Otherwise, I won't know if something is going to rub my feet wrong.

A few years ago on vacation, I tried on these really pretty dress shoes. We went back to that store at least 3 times, and I tried them on at least twice each time we went. I really liked them, and I thought they'd be the perfect replacement for my current dress shoes that were falling apart. The only thing stopping me from buying them was the price. I kept debating whether it was worth it.

Right before I was about to take the box and bring it to the front to pay for them, I tried them on WITHOUT the footsie stockings. They HURT. There was a piece of the shoe that wasn't very smooth and it scratched so badly when I tried walking. If I hadn't tried them with a barefoot, I never would have known ... and that's how I would have needed to wear them if they were purchased.

I think that even if everyone were to wear footsie stockings at the store, if they buy the shoes and try them on at home and don't like them ... they can always return them ... so in the end, there's still "barefeet juice" in them.

So as a general rule, I try on shoes with the appropriate foot gear. If I'd wear it without socks, I'm trying them on without socks.

The only reason why I think it's gross is when people have visibly dirty or gross feet. I like to think that I have clean, unstinky feet. The only time my feet have ever smelled was when I had socks and sneakers on for an entire day at WDW. But don't worry, I know not to try on shoes then!

Question for the sock/footie wearing crowd...

Do you wear a t-shirt underneath when you try on shirts?

Armpits are grosser than feet IMO.

That is so true. Nothing like trying an evening gown on and as it goes over your head you get a whiff of someone elses's deodorant/BO.:faint:

Or how many times have you seen a shirt, blouse, or dress on a hanger in the store that has deodorant marks on them?

How in the world do some of you try bras on???? Do you guess on the size/fit and simply buy them hoping for the best?

It's simply silly and unrealistic to try clothes or shoes on in a way that is not representative of how you're going to wear the item.

Well, the thing about it is, in case you haven't noticed, today's generation does not believe in wearing socks. So, unless the person trying on the shoes is over 40, they probably never wear socks and do not have them on when shopping for shoes.

I have noticed this too. At my job I wear stockings or hose every day, but none of the other women do. I could not wear pumps with bare feet, it would hurt my feet too much.

Did you know that 7 or 8 out of 10 women do not wear the correct bra size? I am going for a fitting in a couple of weeks. As for underwear if I am change style or such I only buy 1 pair & go back & get more if I like them.

And I am depends how you wear them on how I try on shoes.

Yea I had heard that... but as long as they hold my ****s up and don't cut into my sides I am good with any kind.

I was shopping today and tried on a pair of shoes (in bare feet) and the first thing I thought of was this thread! I did buy the shoes too, so no one needs to worry about my feet being in them.

But the person before you didn't buy them! :teeth:

Along the same lines, sometimes when I am out shopping with my aunts, they like to stop at the Goodwill. I pass the shoe racks thinking who would buy used shoes?

Well I guess that I am a very inconsiderate person because I dont ever try on any kind of shoes with socks on unless I will be wearing socks with those shoes.:scared1:  .
I try on my dress shoes my sandals and flip flops with nothing on. I am sorry but you cannot tell or see how a pair of flip flops are going to look with a big nylon stocking on your foot.
So for me I will stay inconsiderate and will not change.

That's ok with me, stuff like that doesn't even faze me. It's just feet. Unless someone had their bare butt inside the shoe, someone else trying on shoes in bare feet is no biggie to me.

I'm very small-chested. I never try on a bra at the store because it's going to serve a decorative purpose, not a functional one.

What a great visual. :lmao:

I got the evil eye from a lady yesterday while I was trying on flip flops-in my bare feet!

What do you guys mean by NOT trying on bras???

I ALWAYS try them on. You can't tell if its gonna fit right without it! I can range between loads of different sizes depends on style and where i shop!

I would MUCH rather try it on in the shop, than have to go and return it. Who returns underwear?? :rotfl:

I always try them on as well. You just don't know how it's going to fit.

I try them on barefoot too. But A) only when I've been wearing flip flops so my feet aren't sweaty, and B) I wash my feet before I go shoe shopping. I don't really see that the footies do all that much good in the way of "sanitation". The inside of the shoe is NO cleaner whatsoever from wearing a stupid nylon footie. Most places I've bought shoes don't even HAVE the nylon footies anymore, and frankly I think it's rude to call other people rude for not using them, ESPECIALLY when they're not even available. It's not the end of the world.....and also a bit naive to actually merrily go along thinking that no one is trying on shoes barefoot. I buy a lot of shoes at Kohl's. They have no footies available and I've seen 100's of people on different trips trying on shoes barefoot.

It doesn't bother me that other people's feet have been in them, heck I buy shoes at thrift stores so I KNOW they've been worn. I douse the inside with disinfectant and move happily on with life. Never gotten any kind of athlete's foot, or fungus or anything. I just don't "sweat" the small stuff.

Just because you haven't ever gotten athlete's foot or other foot fungus doesn't mean that it isn't going to happen. And when it does.....it can be very difficult to get rid of. To me, that's not sweating the small stuff, it's being concerned about my personal well-being.

Athlete's Foot

This fungus requires a warm and moist environment. Wearing poorly ventilated shoes and socks that harbor perspiration provide an ideal breeding ground for the germs that quickly multiply to cause athlete's foot. Contact with surfaces (shower, swimming pool and locker-room floors) that harbor the organism also contributes to development of this problem. It may also be transmitted by wearing the shoes of someone who has athlete’s foot.

Symptoms of Athlete's Foot

Typical symptoms include scaling and peeling in the toe webs (the area between the toes) generally without any accompanying pain, odor, or itching. The infection may also involve the soles of the feet where athlete's foot may present as redness, blistering, and scaling along the sides and soles of the feet, taking on what is termed a moccasin pattern.
Over time, this condition can lead to a secondary bacterial infection. It’s possible for the fungus to set off a reaction that results in tissue breakdown — soggy skin and eroded areas between the toes. In advanced cases, the toe webs become whitened, softened, and soggy; they may itch severely, and there may be a foul odor. As the condition worsens, painful cracking in the toe webs and some oozing may develop.

Athletes foot can sometimes be associated with onychomycosis, a fungal infection of the toenails. However, the usual case of athlete's foot is a more superficial infection than the more stubborn and deep seated nail infection.

Sometimes after an episode of athlete's foot, if particles enter the bloodstream, there may be an allergic reaction causing blisters on the fingers, toes or hands.

If you have diabetes or an illness that makes it harder for your body to fight off infections, athlete’s foot can become a very serious infection in itself or facilitate secondary infections with other serious organisms. You should see a doctor immediately if your feet develop severe redness or swelling, areas of pus, and/or severe pain.

Would you try those shoes on barefoot if you knew the person before you had a foot fungus? Would you share a brush with someone you didn't know? How about a toothbrush? Why would you take chances with your personal well-being or be so inconsiderate as to compromise someone else's, although in this era of "me, me, me" I shouldn't be surprised that there are so many people who have no sense of courtesy.
