Hi

We have never stayed at a value before but have stayed at all the moderates and Poly and AKL. We were supposed to spend 8 nights at WL starting this Friday (9/28) but due to a lay off :sad2: we had to cancel :sad1: So we are going in Feb instead no MNSSHP but also no love bugs.

We are going to try Pop Century, What should we know before hand to help not be dissapointed and make it a magical trip? I know that there is no slide at the pool. We will have a car so buses are not a problem

Last year for our trip in Sept I had emergency Kidney surgery 2 days before going and they left a stent for Kidney to bladder (new mantra at WDW stents and stones won't break your bones but peeing darn near killed me) 2 days after getting back my DW lost her job, week later my Mom had a stroke and then a week later she died. Please lend an encouraging word We need a Disney Fix and man I need a happy thought.

Thanks in Advance Dave

Oh my goodness, your poor thing! Here's some pixie dust for your February trip!:wizard: :wizard:

I am going on a trip with DD's class in November. Have never stayed at a value resort either. I am going with an open mind and looking on it as a new adventure. I am happy just to get the chance to see the values, as we'll probably never get a chance to stay there since we are a family of 5.

I think having a car will help you tremendously as it will broaden your food choices and make them easier to obtain.

It sounds like you really need this trip, so I would go and ENJOY and just relish in the fun. I hear Pop is a great place to be!:)

Hi Dave....sorry to hear about the lay off...however, you are not cancelling your trip, just postponing it:) SOunds better, a little?

We loved POP!! The 60's pool area is great....bldg 4 lakeside is great ..its not considerd Preferred either. You will be close to everything! I thought the food court was great...there is a pool bar....there were activities by the pool for kids....a nice walkway around the lake....I was impressed by the landscaping etc, and the efforts to present this resort...as a resort.

So...2008 will be great...2008 will be great!!! That is your new mantra!!! My DD10 and my mom loved POP! And your family will too!!

We prefer the deluxe resorts, but when the budget calls for it, we have really enjoyed all of our trips at values and moderates.

My best advice is to not compare the two. I know it will be hard to resist thinking about what is not there, but focus on what is. The value resorts still have plenty of Disney magic, and you definitely still feel like you're at WDW.

Pop Century has a great theme, and there are lots of neat things the Imagineers placed throughout the resort. Be sure to take some time to look at all the memorabilia in the shadow boxes in the lobby--it'll remind you of your childhood and all the funny fads that have long since passed. There are even Twister boards in the ground near one of the buildings (70's I think). There is also a great Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head photo op as well.

Having had to cancel a WDW trip before myself, just focus on how thrilling it is to be at WDW at all, and don't worry about missing a few amenities! After all, you're still at Mickey's house!

As another plus, the crowds in February should be very light, so that's nice when it comes to touring the parks. Also, there is a chance that Disney will do the Pirate & Princess Party again this February, so maybe you will get to do that too. :)

We stayed at Pop for the first time this past February and LOVED it. I too was concerned whether we would like this resort as the last two times we went to WDW we stayed at the BC. Don't get me wrong I love that resort also but can't see paying the extra $$$ now that there was only 3 of us going. Our two oldest sons, 19 and 18, just aren't into vacationing with us parents and DS9 anymore. Life goes on though. Our DS9 loved Pop and so did my DH and myself. Its so bright and cheery! We loved the food court and the buses were great IMO. We never waited longer than five minutes in the morning for a bus. Of course, after Wishes there was a line for the bus but two came at the same time and we loaded almost immediately. We are park commandos so really there isn't much time spent in our room. We're going back next February also and staying at Pop again. I can't WAIT!!!!!! Hope you have a MAGICAL time as your family deserves it.

Pop has the best food court with more offerings, including the grilled flatbreads. It also has an indoor lounge and an outdoor lounge. I've probably had the best front desk service (of the values) at that resort. What keeps Pop from being my favorite is just the size and hence, number of people. it seems the food court was constant, loud mayhem--not matter what time of day or night, and there was always something of a line at the bus stops (from the resort or from the parks back.)

Still, you can have a great visit there and I would not hesitate to book tehre again.

FYI: Bring your own pool towels because they are not complemetary at the Value Resorts.

NOT TRUE, towels aren't given out at the pool but guests are told to request towels from housekeeping. Maybe 5 minutes from the time I called to the time the towels were delivered to my room.

Wow you have had a rough time!! I have never stayed at the POP but have stayed at ASMo twice. We stayed once at CBR and to be completely and totally honest, we liked ASMo WAY better! The atmosphere at the values is unbeatable IMO. We decided to stay at CSR this October, but we aren't even there yet and I already miss the Movies! I think that in the future, we are going to save the money and just continue to stay there. For the little amount of time we actually spend at the resort, you can't beat it!

Good luck and have a WONDERFUL TRIP!! You all deserve it! :wizard:

The only advice I would give about POP is to try not to face the main pool area - there was music playing and it was loud! We stayed in the 50s building - I think it was 3236 - we have a view of Epcot from the walkway outside our room. It was a little bit of a walk to the food court and the parking lot - but it was quiet.

Is this something new? I was there in May and we had pool towels at ASMovies.

I was at All StarMusic Seotember12-19 and pool towels were located near the elevators in two housekeeping bins.

You can also call housekeeping and have extras for the pool brought to your room.

Have fun at Disney!:wizard:
