We're getting a full-size car from National. National says that the car holds 5 people and 3 suitcases. Just how BIG would these 3 suitcases be? Since I'm the one that will be loading the car (DH is flying in the next night) I'm just trying to figure out if our luggage will fit in the car with no problem. I definitely don't want to me struggling before we even leave the airport!

Thanks!

Ruth (only FOUR days to go!)

I rented a Pontiac Grand Prix with 2 friends last Feb. We had 3 regular size suitcases and they fit. We had carryons too, I can't remember if they all fit too or if we put them in the backseat. My Mom and I had a Lumina in May and we had 2 regular size suitcases, 1 overnight bag, 2 carryons in the trunk (we don't believe in packing light .;) ). Have a great trip!

Thanks DebbieB! I'm trying to figure out how I can manage a 29" suitcase with 4 other smaller ones!

I've been pondering if their full size cars will hold all of our luggage, too. We have 10 people divided between 2 cars over Thanksgiving weekend. I keep picturing how many of us are going to be holding bags on our laps and between our feet. My mom wants to take her golf clubs, too. It's going to be fun. LOL

Ruth,

You should be OK. The trunks are pretty deep, put the biggest one all the way back first (laying on the floor).

That's what I was trying to do tonight to see if they'd fit in my car (a Sonata)...I've got to GET to the airport first! I think I'm going to ask DH if he'll borrow his dad's minivan to get us to the airport and then cram them all in when I get to MCO! Maybe there'll be a Blazer or mini van on the Emerald Aisle and my problem will be solved!

Thanks for the help!

This may sound crazy, but when my DH and I went on our trip to CA, we wanted to rent a Sebring Conv. however, we were not sure that all the luggage would fit in the trunk. Since it would be a conv. and there would be times that we have the luggage in the car while we were out, we did not want to have anything stuck in the back seat. So, we took our suitcases to the car dealer and told them that we wanted to know if that car could handle our luggage. :) We were honest about it too. We did not say that we were going to buy the car or anything if it fit, we told them that we were going on vacation and we needed to know if it would fit. I would suggest if you are unsure if a mid-size car will meet your needs, try this technique. At least you know before you get there and waste valuable vacation time.:D

It's all in how you position the suitcases. We rented a full size car from National in July, and on the EA we got a Buick LeSabre. We were able to fit 5 suitcases, and 3 large carry ons in the trunk. Two of the suitcases were large, and the other three medium. Some of them we stood up, and others we laid down. This really makes a difference with how much luggage you can fit.

However, the Buick LeSabre is bigger than a full size I think. If you are a EA member at National, you will have your pick of any size car on the aisle.

Hope this helps.:D

We had a skycap load ours. We had plenty of luggage - for four adults and one child with a stroller and a cooler. We didn't know if it would all fit or not. The Emerald Aisle only had two cars - both Buick Regals exactly alike so we had no choice. The skycaps know how to make the luggage fit, and do it quickly. It was definitely worth letting him deal with the luggage. We just watched so we'd know how to get it back in there for the return trip to the airport!

I'm not trying to be rude here, please don't take it that way. I'm very humoured though. Just how much do you all take on vacation? Yikes!

Well, we have 2 teenaged DD's. If that doesn't explain why we have so much luggage, nothing will!:D

I must admit they are not overpacked, so that there is plenty of room for souvenirs.:D

Cindala-

May I suggest that you tell them anything they take they are carrying? It might make them think twice and offload some of the stuff they don't really need.

The Dodge Intrepid / Concorde seems to have the largest trunk of a full size car. I think Dollar rents them.

I know this is not related, but I had to tell someone! Yesteday at the Orlando airport I saw a family checking in. I cannot tell you how much luggage they had, but the red coat who was helping them (with at least 3 skycaps!) had a stack of baggage check printouts that was an inch think! This was expensive looking luggage too. (Louis Vitton etc..) and it was all in protective plastic covers. The woman in charge of the luggage looked very elegant.

While I was in the Delta Crown Room (I was there a long time due to weather delays!) I heard the agents discussing this party. It turns out there was another woman I never saw and they were members of Royalty (I think it was in the Far East, but...) Anyway, I figure NONE of us could pack that much! (I think you could have fit everything I own in about half of these suitcases! I wonder how they got all that stuff to the airport! Trucks?

:-) I can tell you who they were! The Sultan of Brunei and his HUGE party stay at the Grand Floridian for a month every year, they would have been going home about this time. Last year they had 30 rooms for their party!
