True glamour never fades

Wally - thanks for posting this! I knew it was going to be on but I didn't know when ... been a bit busy lately.

I live to serve you darling

:worship:

I bow to you Wally! You made my day!

This guy has some great clips from the Broadway show!

Oh and I have to share this story! I got a friend at work hooked on Grey Gardens and got him the CD. Well he had it in the car...FULL BLAST!!

Well he had to go to a bank in a predominatly black neighborhood. He came out of the bank, got in the car, rolled the windows down, started the car, and guess what started playing FULL BLAST! He almost had a heart attack!

Thanks for the heads-up on GG! As my favorites end their season runs I need something to fill my DVR up with. :woohoo:

DVR is set! :thumbsup2

Now to get some time off of work so I can actually watch it!

I'm out at a birthday dinner for a friend -
Looks like I'll miss it -
Hope it shows up on On Demand.
:headache:

Drew Barrymore was just on Regis......I cant wait to see this! It looks very well done!

(Although I probably wont get a chance to see it till Monday, darn work gets in the way!)

Did anyone see the documentary that this movie is based on? I want to see it, hubby said it was on HBO, but its not anymore :(
I missed watching the movie tonight, hope its on demand! or repeated!

Mike - I saw it ... sort of! I was excited since I didn't have to do anything for my parents so my big night was going to be staying home, crashing on the couch and watching Grey Gardens (yeah, exciting life!). I got about 20 minutes into it when a friend called and I got stuck on the phone for 1.5 hours. :headache: It got so bad that I turned on closed captioning so I could keep up with everything (she heard alot of 'yeah' and 'uh-huh')! I never saw the documentary but based on that Youtube clip you posted I was really impressed. Both Jessica and Drew really nailed the characters and watching them age was amazing. What really shocked me was seeing what their world was really like - I knew they were 'eccentric' and lived in isolation in the house but I didn't know how bad it really was. Pretty scary. By the end of the movie they were both sympathetic characters althought Little Edie was more so and Drew really stretched herself with the role.

The one thing I wondered was why didn't Big Edie's two sons do anything? They appear after the father died but that's all. Jackie stepped in after the story was publicized but there was no mention of them.

Saw it last night - Mesmerizing!

So I've watched a few clips of the documentary on youtube, not all of it by any means, and quite frankly, I don't get it.

What's the fascination? :confused3 I see a very sad situation, interesting for it's eccentricity, but also deeply concerning for practicalities like food, ability to pay for electricity, water, taxes...

Not sure what I'm missing here.

Enlighten me, please?

Honestly I didn't know too much about the story but I love Broadway and heard some of the music on Sirius so that peaked my interest. After watching it on HBO I can tell you that it's interesting for a variety of reasons. First, the family was wealthy and lived a very comfortable lifestyle ... throwing fabulous parties I might add! It was at a time when women weren't supposed to have careers or lives of their own outside their family and that framed some of their behaviors. The HBO movie showed what their life was like before through a series of flashbacks. So you see a comparison, a before and after. There's also the dynamic between Big Edie & Little Edie and some mental health issues.
