Tropical Depression/Storm Aug 3-4, 2024

Well, I ended up moving my trip to January. Too hard to switch my flight and still have enough of a trip. On one hand, I’m glad to go when it’s much cooler out, but still bummed to have to wait 5 months. 😢

Hope everyone waiting makes it down.

We did get that and they loaded us up on BTMR and off we went and this was during that warning.
We were on the peoplemover when the sky looked pretty gnarly! We had a moment of panic about being up in the air, unable to escape to safety. Thankfully no twisters dropped down.

How is the weather looking now/today?
Hoping it’s rain free today (and short lines at the parks). 😂

The worst of the rain appears to be gone! Sunday and yesterday was pouring, but it was never terrible as in other parts of Florida (4 people died due to the rains. RIP). Sun's out, no rain in forecast, expect parks to be even busier since all those folks who missed out Sunday and yesterday will be there today. good day to resort hop.

Our flight out last night was canceled and we couldn't get on another flight until tomorrow, so we checked out of the Boardwalk and moved over to the Dolphin for a couple extra nights. Oh darn, an extra two days at Disney World - what a nice problem to have. 🤣 We have spent extra time resort hopping, visiting the DVC lounge at Disney Springs, and are heading to the pool now. It is a beautiful day today- sunny, with a light breeze.

If we are going to be delayed, probably the best situation to be in! Hoping the rest of the country isn't too badly affected.

I will just say I have been once during a hurricane where the park was closed. It was the best trip I ever had to WDW I would say. The days around the storm were great for low crowds.

Feel bad for people who have to worry about the hurricanes with their property and safety though.

If Disney closes the park watch for the characters in the hotels.
Totally agree. My 'Hurricane' trip (IAN) while staying at BWV was one of my most memorable trips in my very many trips. The characters in the lobby were absolutely delightful for the children. The cast members could not possibly have been more attentive, wonderful & kind.
We never felt unsafe for one minute even though we were aware what was happening all around us. When the parks opened after 2 days, it was very uncrowded.

Of course, we were praying for those on the Gulf side further South who suffered the brunt of the storm.

Excellent call! Warning on Dolphin's main pool- your pocket book will not appreciate you can order drinks and food via the QR code on your chair for delivery to your chair. Margarita to your lounger and you don't even have to flag someone down or walk to the pool bar... thank goodness Disney hasn't figured this out :rotfl2:

I posted this on the Transportation board as well. I realize my message is off-topic but since it affects many people, I thought to put it here as well.

About 30 minutes ago southwest sent me a text about changing my flight. I was due to leave WDW this Friday. There were many eastern US cities listed so you may want to check with your airline to see if your city is affected. I’m getting out a day early. Southwest via phone said the flights to my area could be a problem until Monday.

We headed to MK around 6 and it was busy. We did our lightning lanes and came back to the resort. The park was busy and main Street was of course a zoo. And more people were coming in at 830 when we left. We said everyone must have been making up for the rainy days.

They certainly were! People were still pouring into HS at 7:30pm when we arrived.

Today and tomorrow are good to go days for AP.
Good to go days always indicated to me that Disney didn’t expect those days to be busy park days. We have been here since July 19 and have not had issues getting a park reservation for any park for any day. It’s been completely available. We are APs.

There are plenty of people rolling into the resorts with their luggage and tales of travel delays. The crowds are from visitors who stayed indoors the last two days making the most out of their remaining stay, and from those that finally made it here after flight delays and other transportation woes.
