2 years ago we were at BWV during IAN hurricane (Sept 28, 2022, level 4 but nowhere near the impact that Ft. Myers area got). Parks closed 2 days. Sandbags & debris all over. Flashlights at our door. Creepy at night with trees hitting the balcony window but treated extremely well by Disney. When leaving 3 days later road to MCO was fine (though earlier flooded). Flight normal. No regrets going.

Sorry don't know how they handle a Depression.
DEFINITELY bring shoes like Croc sandels. In September (2023) massive rain where literally when sloshing from the buses back to BWV through Epcot, we had water up to our ankle the entire times. It was NUTS.

We are supposed to be driving through Florida on Sunday (coming from Illinois, leaving Saturday) and checking into our resort later that day. Having never been through a tropical storm -- is this something that we should reschedule, or is it more like driving through thunderstorms? Would greatly appreciate any advice from those who live in the area!

After the 2 pm update I am leaning towards driving up from south florida this weekend and leaving sometime sunday. as long as it stays in the strength of a tropical storm I think it would be safe to drive through like any other thunderstorm.

I would keep an eye on how fast the storm is moving and how strong the winds will get. It’s current predicted strength it’s probably fine. I would probably leave earlier to give yourself more time in case you need to drive really slow or have to detour

We have a Wish sailing hopefully departing Monday so if I hear anything, I will post it here :).

The current forecast track of the storm puts it well away from Port Canaveral by Monday.

Make sure you have good, new wipers and tires with lots of treads and appropriate air pressure. Rainex works well IMO. Water piles up fast on FL roads since it is so low. Hopefully you have gps and AAA?

Have somebody check the radar periodically so you can do a pit stop before getting into heavy rain (gas, bathroom, snacks). Don't forget ponchos ($store) and umbrellas. It may be slow driving so pack your patience!

Be safe!

I will just say I have been once during a hurricane where the park was closed. It was the best trip I ever had to WDW I would say. The days around the storm were great for low crowds.

Feel bad for people who have to worry about the hurricanes with their property and safety though.

If Disney closes the park watch for the characters in the hotels.

Checking the morning observations and it looks like the parks will be getting a lot of rain and it will be windy, but nothing worse than our normal thunderstorms. It's just that it will last for a couple of days rather than just an hour.

Those kind of weather conditions won't close the parks. They will probably lighten the crowds because those of us who live local will decide to stay inside. Interestingly, tomorrow (Sunday) is a "Good to Go" day for AP holders. I'm doubting that will matter to many of us.

Any weather updates for WDW from those there now or in the area?
Have family there now for a special birthday celebration and hoping they can enjoy their time at the parks.

It's a sunny morning right now (about 8 am) and it looks like we won't be getting wind/rain until about noon. After that it looks like a rainy day into the evening and perhaps tomorrow morning. There is nothing really bad in the forecast and I'm sure the parks will be unaffected by the storm passing out in the gulf.

Tornado Watch for most of Florida until 8 PM. Rain bands most of the afternoon with the highest chances between 4 - 6 PM.

We just watched the rain bouncing off the roofs at the Grand Floridian. Looked very cool. Similar to the Test Track test for efficiency 😂

But then it stopped so now we are heading to the parks… with 2 ponchos per pax.
