Tropical Depression may be forming next week

Crossing my fingers for you guys that it dissipates! A few years ago (want to say 2012?) we were flying in during hurricane season (I can't for the life of me remember the name of the storm) and it was very touch and go as far as flights making it to MCO. I about had a heart attack as we checked in for our 6am flight and were told all flights to MCO were at best delayed but most likely canceled. Then our flight was canceled, five minutes later it was back on. Long story short, our flight was the only one to make it that day. We got some serious pixie dust! Waiting on the weather is never fun! I also went to school for meteorology, which sometimes makes my stressing worse, haha!

Edited to add: SO much rain during that trip - but Epcot felt EMPTY and there was plenty to do while staying dry! Definitely a park we recommend in the rain!

Right now the noaa.gov site doesn't show anything. I am in south Louisiana and they briefly mentioned it on the news, but nothing about it today. I wonder if it already dissipated?

A depression is just a bunch of rain lasting longer than the usual afternoon storm. I wouldn't worry about it too much, especially since they aren't mentioning it at all on NOAA.
Yes they do. It's under the 5 day. I just saw it.

We were there one year during a potential hurricane that ended up as a tropical depression. The darn thing just wouldn't move over Florida. It just rotated around and around and around for days....basically our whole trip. The first of it was more storm-like but the remaining days were just dreary--drizzle to rain 24/7. At least no lightning that I recall after the first of it. I will be there too and I hesitate leaving the sunny midwest with 80 degree temperatures...let's hope that it ends up as nothing.

I'm definitely not going to worry because it's not like we can change anything now anyway. And if it clears the parks, even better. Just worried about outdoor rides and nighttime stuff.

They usually head to Texas this time of year, not that they need anymore rain!

Yuck, im heading down Wednesday so hopefully there wont be many flight delays. BUT on the bright side, the NHC says only a 30% chance of anything forming so theres a very good chance nothing hits Florida at all next week

yes, I know we go in June every year. A few thunderstorms is one thing a tropical depression is another thing. I hope it turns out to be nothing but there is nothing I can do about it.

We were visiting WDW when Hurricane Charley hit in 04. It came through Orlando on a Friday evening. Parks were open that day until 1. 3 of the 4 parks reopened the next morning on schedule, albeit without monorail/FP.

Generally, tropical depressions are small taters. The parks will still be open and it may even depress (pun intended) crowd levels. Grab a poncho and go.

NOOOO!!! Don't send it to Texas!!! We're flooding already!!! LOL Just a got a flash flood warning broadcast on our phones. I'm at work and my kids are at home panicking as it came over there phones too! Let's all hope and pray whatever it is just goes away or gives us a nice normal afternoon thunderstorm at Disney to enjoy some AC :)

just checked the weather here at noon...they predict it coming in across central Florida....get those ponchos at the ready peeps!! see you there, we leave tomorrow :)

NOOOOOOOOOO no more rain or I wont get to the airport tomorrow for flooding..lol

Suggest folks follow any storm forecasts on the government's National Weather Service web site. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov

The advantage of using this site is that they don't rely on scary speculation to lure people to click on their stuff. There's no sensationalizing at the NWS, unlike most TV sources.

Oh, and BTW I just looked and they say absolutely nothing about any tropical depression forming next week.
Thank you so much for that link, SO HELPFUL! We're there starting on Sunday.

So we arrive in Orlando on Saturday and all the weather forecasts are predicting heavy rain for our first few days - maybe even a tropical storm. We've done Disney in the rain and we're all set with our rain gear, just in case. Never been there during a full-on tropical storm tho. If you have, I'd love to hear about your experience and any tips you can share. For one thing, I'm wondering how bad does the weather have to get to affect park operation? Will they most likely keep the parks open even if the weather system develops into a full-scale tropical storm? And if the parks are open, what rides are most likely affected by this kind of weather? I figure the outdoor stuff like Big Thunder would be shut down. But what else?

I don't think Tropical Storm/Depression will in and of itself cause early closings. Full on hurricane will though! I wouldn't worry about it, a TS is a longer than the usual afternoon thunderstorm. We were there during Andrew and Charlie, now that was wild!

Have a good time! We will be there starting Sunday ourselves, I've packed the Chacos and ponchos!

Outdoor attractions/entertainment can close with lightening. Indoor attractions will be slammed.

Say Magic Kingdom for example....Mime Train, Splash Mnt, Thunder Mnt, Barnstormer, Tomorrowland Speedway, etc etc etc etc. basically anything outside. If you can withstand the weather after the crazy long lines for everything inside, when things reopen, it's pretty awesome. Like a 2nd rope drop.

Yes. We've been there during tropical storms (too many to count) and a hurricane (downfall of traveling in the peak storm months of August/September).

Winds are also a factor- most buses can't run if sustained winds hit 35 MPH, below TS force.

Good to know. We're staying offsite and driving to the parks. But we drive a pickup. If the winds are bad enough to affect high profile vehicles, we may have problems driving around as well.
